About Molyvos

A Livanos' family creation, Molyvos is the closest you can get to Greece in New York City. Critics agree that Molyvos serves perhaps the finest example of Greek cuisine in New York, and beyond. People from around the world have discovered that Molyvos serves the true foods and wines of Greece, along with a large dose of the country’s warm and lively spirit. Molyvos’ menu is built upon the home-style cooking of Greece using authentic recipes, classical cooking techniques and superior ingredients. The wine list, under the keen direction of Kamal Kouiri, is unique for its depth and breadth of excellent Greek labels and small producers from the Mediterranean whose wine deserves to be enjoyed. Molyvos also boasts a carefully selected Pre and Post-theatre menu that perfectly accompanies an evening of entertainment.

Delicious food. Wait staff driven, not warm and friendly. Wine sommelier extremely helpful. Sat near front door on a freezing night. Over priced. 2 glasses of wine, split a salad and had an appetizer of grilled octopus 80 with tip.

We ordered from the prix fixe menu. Service was prompt. Food was okay. I wish we would have ordered the grilled fish and some of the more popular items.

We had a nice table right by the window and the food was all delicious. The restaurant has a relaxed but elegant vibe and is a good place to have a conversation.

Fabulous food and the prix fixe is amazing. Flavorful and unusual with wonderful variety. Tables can be a little close together and if you're near a big table of diners it can be very loud. Service is good at the bar too.

We have eaten at Molyvos many times and have never been disappointed. Food is consistently delicious. Service is equally good. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Four us dined at Molyvos to celebrate one friend's birthday. Three out of four ordered their prix fixe dinner which was outstanding. By coincidence, we all ordered the same option: stuffed mission figs appetizer (outstanding!) and the crispy cod (fabulous) entrée. For dessert, the Baklava ice cream was decadent and delicious. The Sauvignon Blanc wine the waitress recommended was truly lovely and enjoyed by all. While Molyvos can be a bit pricey, it was well worth every penny.

I returned to Molyvos after a decade plus hiatus. It was good 15 years ago and it's still good today. The bean soup was great and the Greek fish was wonderful. We shared a bottle of red wine from Crete (of all places) and it was the perfect accompaniment to the meal. The location is ideal for Carnegie Hall and is 10 blocks north of Times Square. Opa!

You can't keep us away from our Octopus Salad! I still think this is one of the best things I've eaten anywhere! We meet for lunch whenever we can, and as much as everything else is delicious, since you can only have that salad at lunch now it's the only thing we're interested in. We love Molyvos!

Took my mother here before a performance at Carnegie Hall, which is on the next block. First they kindly offered a table near the door for mom's convenience. Second even though there were plenty of people to make a lively scene, the place was quiet enough to hear and there was plenty of elbow room. We had the prix fixe with a side of lemony wild greens. The mission figs on a lovely bed of microgreens were just slightly warm, a very nice touch. The pan seared chicken was very tasty and tender. We were impressed by the baklava sundae - a surprisingly delicate mix of flavors and textures. For a midtown pre-theater place we found Molyvos surprisingly elegant, unhurried and well-priced. At 56th street and 7th we hadn't previously considered it for pre-Broadway, but now we will.

The food is consistently excellent -- with a wide assortment of options both in terms of types of food and portion sizes (appetizers, small plates and main courses). The staff is very friendly and helpful -- especially for those not familiar with Greek cuisine. I have recommended Molyvos to many of my friends -- and they have gone back there often.

We love Greek food so was looking forward to trying the food here. The appetizers were delicious, but my main course (the seafood Pilaf) was dry and seemed to be reheated. The shrimp and mussels were overcooked and dried out as well as the rice.
the other guests main courses were good though (the Prawns and the Scallops).

I guess I ordered the wrong thing but thought the restaurant should know that the Seafood Pilaf was not up to standards and reheated.

We ordered three dips to start. Two out of three were good but the hummus was bland and unremarkable. The eggplant dip was Smokey and delicious. I liked the Teramasolatte (spelling error) caviar spreads but my companion said it was too mayonaisey .
We shared the saffron rice with seafood. It was served lukewarm and was again entriely unremarkable, no great flavors, could not taste the saffron.
The best dish was the Molyvos pistachio ice cream sundae for desert. The rest of the meal was very disappointing. I used to eat at Movlyvos years ago, whenever I. visited New York. I doubt that I willl dine there again.

I've been dining at Molyvos just about since it opened although I had not been there for a year.

The food was subpar for Molyvos or anywhere else at this price point. Both the whole fish and the pilaf were overcooked. The ingrediants were excellent, although the wrong rice (basmati) was used for the pilaf

The spreads were excellent as always (they have the best tarmosallta anywhere in NY) and the sardine appetizer was excellent too

The service was excellent as always however the appetizer came to fast after the spreads. If they paced themselves better we may have order more drinks. It was a 8pm reservation so the place was thinning out so there was no reason to rush

The desert was very good

Since I've been many times I may try again, but there are a lot of places nearby so who knows?

If you welcome the idea of wining and dining in an excellent Greek restaurant on a metropolitan street in Greece, you will love this one right which is right on the East side of 7th Ave. Really nice is the convenience to Carnegie Hall and several Broadway theatres when enjoying a meal goes hand in hand with enjoying the performing arts.

Dip fresh warm pita wedges into a taramasalata that includes potato and almonds the like of which I have encountered in Cephalonia only. Skewers of fresh fish may arrive on beds of orzo with the aroma of Aegean herbs and fresh lemon. And the Moussaka with ground lamb is exquisite. Nice selection of Greek wines to pick and pair with the able help of your server should the need arise. Really pleasing ambiance of an established family restaurant which is proud of its food...and should be. There are few restaurants in the world where I'd like to return to work my way through the menu, but his is one of them now.
