A lovely meal of fine Greek cuisine, brought back memories of my vacation in Greece. I arrived in time for the last day of their 20th anniversary celebration.

Great food and service, as every prior time. Our 2nd generation Greek son in law loved it, and found favorites his mom used to make.

The food was excellent--we had fresh grilled fish--and butternut soup squash. The service was professional and accommodating. I requested no salt added to my food and was accommodated without difficulty. The main issue for me was it was extremely noisy. It's a large space and the acoustics aren't conducive to noise control. I had a sore throat by the end of the evening speaking loudly enough for my friend to hear me. If you don't mind a noisy environment, then the food is terrific and the service excellent and it's a pretty space. But it's too noisy for me. I wouldn't go back despite all the other positives.

Let me begin by saying that I have been enjoying Greek cuisine for many years, as close as the many wonderful restaurants in the Greek capital of NY (Astoria) and as far as Greece. What appeals to us mostly is the simplicity in the way they cook their fish, olive oil and simple seasoning. My daughter and I both have a garlic sensitivity, which is the main reason we love Greek food. Most all the Geeek restaurants we've eaten in don't use garlic in the fish preparation, or in the grilled octopus and calamari. This is the opposite of Molyvos. They use garlic in almost every single dish. We requested no garlic when we ordered and they told us that all their fish, including the octopus, was premarinated in garlic. They suggested we order either the salmon or scallops which could be prepared to order, so we proceeded to order the scallops. We also told them we had theatre tickets when we ordered so they were aware of our timing requirements. Subsequently, we waited almost an hour for the scallops to arrive. We tried to inquire several times about our meal, and our waitress who was pretty rude, wouldn't even make eye contact with us. We eventually got the bus girl on the case, who informed the manager. He then came over and told us the scallops took so long because they had to change the dish to meet the garlic sensitivity requirements. (Why were we not told that to begin with?!!). In the manager's defense, he did offer us a complimentary cocktail but of course we had no time for it. A 15% discount was applied to the check for our inconvenience, so that at least eased the pain of an unpleasant experience. To the credit of Molyvos, the food we had was delicious, but they really need to re-think their plan on "authentic" Greek cuisine.

Food was too seasoned and wasn't cooked to desired temperature as repeatedly requested! Wine was poor quality, overall experience unsatisfactory with a staff whose comprehension of the English language was laughable.

Quality Greek food with a real variety of choices. My date, 1% Greek , opted for stuffed cabbage and loved it. I had the sea scallops. Great choices of seafood.
Interesting choice of appetizers. Txatziki was delicious.
Very attentive service and quiet enough that hearing one another was never an issue

I like good food and I really like good Mediterranean food. This place hit the mark but it didn't hit it out of the part largely because the entry/welcoming staff seemed bothered that we showed up and that we wanted to have dinner. Then the wait staff was nice but was not excited to get our table of 3 and we had to ask her about specials. Having been a hostess and then a waitress I have tremendous respect for the energy it takes to do both, especially when you've had a difficult day - but I never allowed my customers to feel insignificant...alas, I tipped her 30% and noticed the only smile she gave us - hopefully the next table benefited.

The food was excellent! The roasted red pepper spread was absolutely delicious. Chicken plate was very plentiful and well prepared. The sword fish was fresh and tasty. Would highly recommend a visit. Service felt a bit slow but we were not rushed to get anywhere.

The grilled octopus and grilled sardines are to die for. The service, wine list and ambiance would easily match up against or exceed any NYC restaurant. Not cheap but when you get the bill you will not be unhappy.

The food here was excellent, and not crazy expensive given its location. They advertise as a seafood restaurant, and certainly there is a lot of that, but there are also many choices for meat eaters as well as vegetarians. I had a roasted eggplant spread that was delightful, and salmon on a bed of risotto that was cooked perfectly. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The wine list was heavy on Greek wines, and their "featured wine" was quite lovely. I will definitely be going back to this restaurant.

We very much enjoyed dinner at Molyvos.

The food is excellent - I wish OpenTable offered "Excellent" for a rating in between Very Good and Outstanding! We started with a selection of Greek cheeses. One mild and plain, one grilled and drizzled with honey, one with some sort of dried cherries and a sauce. All delicious! We had the lamb shank (phenomenal with a superb sauce) and bronzino (grilled and one of the best we've had.) For dessert we made the hard choice to not get the baklava and went with Bougatsa (Phyllo Filled with Warm Semolina Custard.) It was great, but we have to try the baklava in the future!

The wine list is huge, with an amazing array of Greek wines. Many red wines priced in the $50 to $120 range for a bottle. Nonetheless, we went with draft beer this evening.

Service was very attentive and friendly. The waiter gave superb recommendations each step of the way.

Tables for two are mostly in two rows and somewhat too-closely spaced. We arrived early and got an end table that may have been slightly larger and where we sat on adjacent sides of the table. That worked really well.

Located on 7th Avenue between 55th and 56th St, around the corner from the New York City Center and Manhattan Theater Club. A great choice for pre- or post-theater dinner or lunch especially if seeing something at NYCC or MTC. The restaurant is within about a half-mile of the entire Broadway theater district.

Very highly recommended. We will definitely be back.

This place is worth a trip to even if you don’t live in the city. I’ve been here many times and they are consistently excellent. The Garganides Saganaki (head on prawns) is amazing when available and they are featuring it now during their 20th anniversary as one of their original dishes. Grilled octopus is the best I’ve had anywhere. Currently staying around the corner so dining here was a no brained!

If you like Greek food, Molyvos is a must! And... the menu is so inviting, even if you aren't sure if you like Greek food, it is a fabulous place to explore this delicious, tempting array of wonderful choices. The service is attentive but not intrusive... a nice selection of Mediterranean wines by the glass with helpful staff if you don't know the grapes...and the freshly prepared dishes include unique, healthy vegetable combinations. I live in the Caribbean, but I've made a point to come back to Molyvos on my last three trips! Definitely recommend this gem!

We had not been to Molyvos for many years and were extremely disappointed. There were four in our party and all found the food subpar. I ordered the chicken. It was overcooked (very dry) and had almost no taste. A friend ordered salmon, medium, which had to be returned to the kitchen because it was almost raw. We had asked for a quiet table at the time we reserved. A friend arrived first, and not knowing about the request, sat at the table offered. It was incredibly loud. Could not hear even the person directly next to you. And they had put us there even though I reminded them about the request when I arrived and there was an empty table in the back corner. After around 15 minutes, we asked to be switched to that table, which they accommodated. It was much quieter. Finally, we don’t mind paying for a good meal, but the prices were totally inappropriate for the quantity and quality of the food and wine served. We concluded that they are now catering primarily to tourists, who they must think don’t know better. We will not return, even though the restaurant is very convenient to City Center, which is where we were going.

Molyvos draws a strong business for the pre-theater set, and sometimes gets overstretched as a result. The waiters keep their good humor (and efficiency) but the greeters start to turn sour and unhelpful. That aside, the food is delicious, and the wine choices are excellent. It's still a good choice for pre-theater because it's near to several theaters and a good overall experience. If you're in the mood for first-tier Greek food, and don't have tickets, make a later reservation (8:30 PM or later) when the atmosphere is much less rushed.

They have many delicious dishes but we never miss the lamb shank.
