About Molyvos

A Livanos' family creation, Molyvos is the closest you can get to Greece in New York City. Critics agree that Molyvos serves perhaps the finest example of Greek cuisine in New York, and beyond. People from around the world have discovered that Molyvos serves the true foods and wines of Greece, along with a large dose of the country’s warm and lively spirit. Molyvos’ menu is built upon the home-style cooking of Greece using authentic recipes, classical cooking techniques and superior ingredients. The wine list, under the keen direction of Kamal Kouiri, is unique for its depth and breadth of excellent Greek labels and small producers from the Mediterranean whose wine deserves to be enjoyed. Superb Greek and Greek-inspired food as well as superb service. The wine list will take you far beyond ouzo and retsina. The cheese options are heavenly. A bit cramped and austere, though pleasant, decor.

The traramasalata is the best in town...creamy, not overly salty and light and delicious.

Our favorite restaurant near Carnegie Hall and City Center; we've eaten here many times in the 20 years they've been open. The pre- and post-theater menu is an excellent value. The food is always executed well and delicious.

I would like to thank the attention of the waiter who served me and my boyfriend for dinner today. Besides the great service, the suggested meals were amazing. I have nothing to complain about! Luisa Furlan.

We ate here 20 years ago on another visit to NYC and remembered it as an exceptional meal. Haven’t been back to this part of town for a while, but Molyvos still has it. Great food, inviting atmosphere and good service, though it could have been slightly more attentive. We won’t wait 20 more before we return.

PROBABLY ONE OF THE TWO BEST RESTAURANTS IN THE US (KOKKARI IN SAN FRANCISCO IS THE OTHER ONE). EXCELLENT EVERYTHING. EXPENSIVE BUT WITHIN RANGE FOR A HIGH QUALITY NEW YORK RESTAURANT

Classic gourmet Greek delish, attentive service, great and creative drinks, appetizers, main deals, and desserts in a lovely atmosphere and great, midtown location. Highly recommended!

Food was great! We asked different starters and small plates to share and each one was outstanding! Main courses were very good also.

All wines are greek and all are by the glass. Honest pricing. White sparkling was good. Rose soarkling was too much on a sweet side - recommend asking to taste prior pouring. Full bodied red was superb with lamb dish

Great experience!

High quality Greek food. The menu changes often and offers a variety of choices not found in a lot of Greek food serving restaurants. The wine list contains a broad choice of Greek wines and there are also some unusual Greek cocktails. The service was very good - responsive and fast. The price is on the higher end, but it is to be expected for the location of the restaurant, which is
strategically located almost half way between Times Square and Columbus Circle. I would highly recommend it for all types of occasions.

Very noisy. Excellent service. Place looks like it needs a refresh. Food was good but not great. Their offering is an upscale version of Greek food. I am Greek, so these modifications of traditional plates are not my favorite. Either way food was OK. Very good list of Greek wines. And of course super expensive! I would recommend it to a friend, but I don’t think I would go back anytime soon.

The food has improved through the years. Great location for pre or post theater or concert meals. The Greek food is authentic and the staff is courteous and well informed.
Round tables for large groups make conversation available to all at the table.

Very good restaurant. The Zucchini Fritters appetizer and the Kumato Tamato Salad were excellent. Of our three entrees, the Prawns and Artichokes had very good flavor and great vegetables, but be aware that the taste of these oversized prawns is not the same as shrimp. The Lamb Shank was excellent. The interior of the restaurant is very handsome and comfortable. We recommend this restaurant.

Molyvos serves authentic Greek fare yet could expand the menu and serve more fish options which are not whole fish.

Desserts and post-meal cheese choices are nice as well as the pre and after dinner drinks. Base prices for desserts and glasses of wine begin around $13, so be prepared to spend in this more expensive location of NY, and at Molyvos in particular.

Wait staff were attentive, we were not rushed, room temperature was a little cool but seating in the back was a little more cozy and warm.

Our visit was on a Wednesday evening.

Very convenient to City Center - and certainly busy for lunch on Wednesday. The food is fine- not great- and it is expensive- based mostly on the location. Much better value over on 9th Ave!
And most restaurants to honor my Open Table request for a quiet table as I am hard of hearing - it was quite a process to change our table to one where I could actually hear.

Forgot how wonderful this restaurant is. So glad we were at an event in the area and revisited. From our waiter's suggestion of the delicious Greek red wine, to the best beet appetizer I ever ate, not to mention the tasty entrees and dessert, I don't hesitate to recommend this place and haven't stopped talking about to our family and friends!

The food here is good and portions are generous. Waiters are friendly. But it annoys me when you make a reservation and when you arrive, even though there are plenty of tables available, you are offered the seat closest to the door.

The food was very good but for 1 big and 1 small deficiency. The lamb and beef meatballs were grossly undercooked. The smaller issue was blaandness of the chicken dish. The portion sizes were grossly too small. This is the only greek restaurant I have dined at that I left hungry.

Molyvos had a good selection from appetizers to dessert. The food was good but the noise
level was, at times, deafening. I was looking for a quieter ambience and bit more upscale.
The Moussaka and the Prawns with Artichokes were good . The grilled octopus was particularly good. The Baklava ice cream dessert was cloyingly sweet. The service was good. I would probably not returned because the ambience was too frenetic!

We had dinner there Saturday night before the ballet
Great cocktails. Grilled octopus was delicious and was enough to share as a appetizer
The lamb chops were perfectly done and the stuffed cabbage was delicious
We ended the meal with the baklava ice cream. Yummy
We will definitely be back

I always enjoy the restaurant. The food is consistently very good. The service is always very helpful and polite. I especially love the Greek salad and the grilled octopus. The wine list is extensive with wines with which I am not very familiar. The wait staff always helps me to choose wine that is both to my taste and budget.
I would recommend Molyvos.

Great find. We enjoyed the grilled manouri cheese with basil and olive oil for an app. I had the lamb gouvetsi which was very flavorful. The lamb was very tender. Some of the best lamb gouvetsi I ever had. My wife had the stuffed vegetarian peppers which was also very flavorful. Great service. Friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely go back on our next trip to NYC.

The food was excellent--we had fresh grilled fish--and butternut soup squash. The service was professional and accommodating. I requested no salt added to my food and was accommodated without difficulty. The main issue for me was it was extremely noisy. It's a large space and the acoustics aren't conducive to noise control. I had a sore throat by the end of the evening speaking loudly enough for my friend to hear me. If you don't mind a noisy environment, then the food is terrific and the service excellent and it's a pretty space. But it's too noisy for me. I wouldn't go back despite all the other positives.
