Great food, slow service. The waiter indicated our food would take 20-25 minutes; it actually took 45.
As usual the food was delicious, the waiters pleasant and helpful. Our friends, eating here for the first time, were very happy with their meal and determined to return. The calamari, moussaka, the lamb shank, and the ginger margaritas were the hits of the evening. I can’t wait to go back.
Really great meal. Food was on the mark. Don’t miss the grilled octopus. Some of the best I’ve ever had. A little slow service but a very knowledgeable waiter. Will definitely return!
Had the Greek Village Salad, eggplant spread and Dolmades - all delicious!
Phenomenal meal. Great service
Great service and great food.
Excellent food, friendly bar & waitstaff. It was the only place open 2 years ago in the blizzard when we were in town and food was great then, so we revisited, and were just as happy.
My son and my wife and I had a great meal at Molyvos and we would recommend in particular the moussaka, the scallops, and the seafood pilaf.
Schlechter service; sehr kleine Portionen; geschmacklich nichts besonderes
We arrived at 6:30 p.m. and our show was to start at 8:00 p.m. at New York City Center (around the corner from this restaurant - 5 minutes slow walk). It was enough time to have dinner, however, the service was so slow, that we were unable to eat our main course and had to take it with us. First, it took a long time for our order to be taken ( I believe the order was eventually taken by the owner who saw that nobody coming to our table for a while), then, it took a real while to be served. Main course was served at 7:45 p.m. and we had no choice but to take it "to go". Anyhow, it was not the most pleasant experience to go to the show with the lamb chops in the bag...
Great food AMC great service
Great food, great service. Please keep it up, looking forward to our next dining experience at Molyvos.
Molyvos is very fine Greek restaurant with an extremely varied menu. You can find all the Greek specialties here and an especially fine collection of Greek wines. Fish dishes are particularly well represented.
this is one of my favorite resaurans. i have been going there for many years.....love the food, and everything about it.
great greek food! its upscale, well prepared, well served. just plain good
La calidad de la comida es aceptable, pero por esos precios uno esperaría algo especial.
We were there for a relatively late dinner - 8:30 start. They have re-done the place and it felt airier and very calm. It was quiet and perfect for conversation. I really enjoyed the eggplant spread appetizer with fresh raw veggies (instead of pita bread - I'm gluten sensitive). My sea bass was perfectly done; I was offered any side vegetable option I preferred to the usual rice pilaf accompaniment as I am on a strict no-grain diet. My husband had the chicken-lemon soup which he said was delicious, followed by the rice/pork/lamb stuffed grape leaves with lemon sauce as a main dish which was also very tasty. We neither had wine or fancy water. We shared some of their homemade gelato with was good but small - although my husband loved the biscotti that came with it (which I skipped due to previously mentioned sensitivities). I have suggested Molyvos to many friends, especially to those from out of town, over the years - it's good to know their food is still very good in a tough neighborhood!
Very good quality. Love their vegetable plate & marinated sardine toast.
This is my second visit and the quality was really consistant.
I will definitely return for pre-concert meal at Carnegie Hal or in the area.
Another great meal at Molyvos. We had the greek salad, grilled octopus, zucchini fritters and stuffed red peppers with rice, eggplant and cheese. All were amazing! Service was attentive. Convenient location near Carnegie Hall.
Food is very authentic. Excellent location and surrounding. Really everything was well served. The restaurant is not cheap, but the value of the offerings are commensurate with price. Having been a food server for many years, I would, however, recommend the management to oversee the transition (or turn) of the tables from pre theater to the 8pmish seating and beyond. It was clear that when we sat down the entire staff and kitchen were "on mental break" from the pre theater rush. It took about 45 minutes after we sat at 7:30 to get a first drink order and fresh bread and water. And my Moussaka, which was very very good the second time I ordered, originally came very cold in the middle. The 3 lamb chops were good, but not worth $45 for the entre'. They should add a chop or chop the price. Overall we will be back. It was good.
Delicious authentic Greek food! Enjoyed it all from appetizers to dessert! Fantastic wine
Our soups too too long to come and were inedible
The other fishes were very good
I will probably not return
Normally s favorite but terrible service and insanely long wait for main course!
Great restaurant for pre-theatre meal. Been here several times over the years. The quality is steady and perfectly fine for such an occasion.
We tried the restaurant as a place to dine before going to a concert at Carnegie Hall. The place seemed geared up to moving large crowds through as quickly as possible, not very friendly. The food was OK but in all the value was not that great. In the future we would probably choose to eat uptown.
I frequent Greek restaurants since I am Greek. This was a very, nice close to authentic, Greek spot. The server was not that attentive but the food was good and fairly priced. Super busy pre-theater crowd. If you're looking for a quite evening go at 8:00 on theater nights.
When we're in NY and headed for the theater, Molyvos is our go-to destination for dinner beforehand. The menu offers a range of small plates, as well as full plates, inventive dishes, and an extensive list of Greek wines. The food is very good and the setting is very comfortable -- casual but elegant with its white table clothes and tiered dining room. We've taken a number of friends and family with us and will be back with more.
I always go to Molyvos before Carnegie Hall performances ... Ever since I started eating here with my Parents.. I've continued the tradition !! And I've always been seated at my Parents' and my favorite table .. #30 !! I do request this table each time I make a reservation .. I've never been disappointed !!
Thanks for always making (our) visits a remarkable experience !!

Very good food and attentive service; made sure to get us out in time for concert at nearby Carnegie Hall.
Disappointed with our meal. We started with three spreads which were delicious, but the entrees were just fair. The sea bass was well prepared but bland. The seafood pilaf was dry and chewy. The service was attentive.
Dinner with a vegan guest was made easy by a very cooperative, kind, experienced waiter. Nice, fresh, well prepared food is always beautifully presented there.
I started with the small plate meatballs. Unevenly heated, some parts hot, some cold. Then the pan seared scallops, seared into leatheriness and terribly salty. Disappointing meal.
We eat at Molyvos regularly when we are in NYC. The Greek food is excellent and the waitstaff delivers impeccable service. We ate Tapas on Thursday evening before a play. Tried a new red wine recommended by the sommelier. Delicious.
Loved Molyvos. Our server was attentive and professional, as was all of the staff. Food was all delicious.
Having dined at many restaurants throughout nyc. It’s unfortunate that this one falls way down into my forgettable list. At first glance you would think that something special waits inside. But truly looks are deceiving. The decor is decent, well lit and clean the staff are attentive and friendly. Annoying music fills the already noisy chatter of various cultures speaking loudly in their language and the clanging of kitchen workers is not far behind. So definitely not a place for romance or just a peaceful meal. Speaking of which. The food here is absolutely horrible. I ordered the fried octopus that was devoid of anything even remotely taste bud worthy as boring and worthless as can be. I also ordered the lamb chops which were so full of fat and also devoid of taste that I just wanted to throw the dam thing in the chefs face.
If this resturaunt is representive of Greek cuisine than truly it’s done Greek meals a disservice. Because either Greek food is absolutely horrible or the chef needs to be fired. It’s a shame too. Because I feel there’s potential here but not with the current menu or chef.
Very disappointed that the waiter recommended the Greet salad, insisting the chef had ripe tomatoes in February in NYC! It was the worst Greek salad I ever had. Fortunately, the main course was good.
Seating up front, especially immediate down from the entrance was chilly. Host and staff made extra efforts to accommodate moving to another table. My moussaka was excellent.
Celebrating a promotion!
On the positive side, I was able to eat one course and get out in time for an 8:00 reservation. I did have several concerns. I wanted a quiet table and even though there were booths available which I thought would be quieter they seated me at a corner noisy table. When I inquired about the other tables I was told they were reserved, but almost no one was seated there during the 1 1/2 hours I was at the restaurant.
My red snapper was a little dry and expensive.
Confusing menu as fish was listed only as whole fish.
Waiter(s) were hard to find.
Disappointing. I remember when Molyvos was a top-notch restaurant. The space looks a bit dilapidated with ripped fabric on the benches and peeling paint in the bathrooms. The food was just OK. Service was nevertheless good, although our server was very distracted.
