A Livanos' family creation, Molyvos is the closest you can get to Greece in New York City. Critics agree that Molyvos serves perhaps the finest example of Greek cuisine in New York, and beyond. People from around the world have discovered that Molyvos serves the true foods and wines of Greece, along with a large dose of the country’s warm and lively spirit. Molyvos’ menu is built upon the home-style cooking of Greece using authentic recipes, classical cooking techniques and superior ingredients. The wine list, under the keen direction of Kamal Kouiri, is unique for its depth and breadth of excellent Greek labels and small producers from the Mediterranean whose wine deserves to be enjoyed. Molyvos also boasts a carefully selected Pre and Post-theatre menu that perfectly accompanies an evening of entertainment.

This is a very busy pre-theatre restaurant that handles the crowd very well. The food is fresh and very flavorful; the service is exceptional.

I arrived early for my open table reservation and announced myself to the hostess. Since I was a party of 1, she offered me a table immediately. The service I received was extremely attentive, and very quick. The food was delicious, attractively presented, and just the right amount for me. The bill was a bit more than I had hoped it would be, mainly because of the cost of bottled sparkling water and having dessert (baklava - REALLY good!). I was distracted so I didn’t add it up as I went. Know that it is pricey. But again, great service, delicious food and beautiful presentation.

The food was good, but not anything overly special. I had planned to order a glass of wine after my cocktail, but the server never checked in himself after the food was served, just others who I assume were more just food runners.

Had a 6:00 reservation ahead of an 8:00 concert. Still, waiter rushed meal a bit more than necessary - we were done by 7:00. Food only mediocre - not as good as I remember it being several years ago.

Very good modernized Greek food, updated and creative, not traditional. One disappointment on this visit; the waiter really talked up the galataburiko (spelling), so I ordered it. Then when it was time to serve dessert, he announced that they were out of it -- no more in the kitchen. And this happened at 6:30 pm, not late at night.

Reliably Delicious

Perfect for pre-theatre —City Center is right around the corner—Molyvos is a reliably delicious option for Greek food. One of our party was vegetarian and she had no problem finding many choices. The food and service are always good and whenever we are in this part of nyc, it’s our first choice.

The octopus was fantastic! The service was good, we told them we were seeing a show and they had us out with plenty of time.

It occurred to me as we were leaving that this was very much like a Greek version of Olive Garden. If you’re going to be seated on the lower level in the back, ask them to move your seat closer to the front because you’ll get no service as the kitchen entrance is before right before these seats.

We shared a number of appetizers and small plates and all were very good. But equally important was that it was quiet so that we could have a real conversation without shouting.

Cuisine was simple and healthy. Service was very attentive. I was given an oddly uncomfortable table next to a pillar given that the restaurant was not at all crowded. Good Value on Price Fixe lunch. One of my dishes tasted as if it had been pre-cooked and was not as fresh and juicy as it could have been. Soup and dessert were wonderful.

Selection of spreads made a fantastic starter for two, and the selection of three kinds of baklava for dessert was unbelievable. Service was warm and attentive without hovering. They were very kind to a customer with mobility problems. A wonderful experience.

Routine, but well prepared, better than average, classic Greek menu, somewhat under-flavored. Extensive Greek wine list, but waiter was not knowledgeable, a major problem given the obscurity of most of the bottles. Service was no better than OK. We had a serious reception problem. When we arrived, we were told that we were the first arrivals, and went to the bar. When our friend arrived, she was told that she was the first arrival, and seated at the table. It took us almost a half hour to connect.

When in NYC, my wife and I always go to Molyvos for dinner. It has been outstanding in the past, but this time was probably our last time. Everything was overcooked, the portions were small, the dolmades were soggy, the wild greens pie tasted like toothpaste, and my wife, who is Greek, said the food at a Greek church picnic was better. Very disappointing and way too expensive! We'll be finding another Greek restaurant next time we're in Manhattan.

a pleasant atmosphere altho' it could use a little sprucing.
the service was very good and efficient.
the presentation was fine.
the wine listed had lots of Greek wines which is very nice and the pricing was fair.
but the food was so ordinary - thus overpriced! "Veggies" to be used with the spreads @ $7 is rather ridiculous!
being so close to Carnegie Hall, it is very tempting to use it - but I don't think I want to again.
