Food was delicious! Everyone very helpful when the power went out in Midtown!!!!
We had the prix fixe meal -- all three courses were superb. The service was polite and punctual.
Small plates were good. disappointed in the octopus salad. Octopus was chopped so finely, you didn't know you were eating octopus.
Great fish - pick it out then have it simply grilled and you are transported to Greece. There are lots of interesting and delicious choices. If you like octopus, have the grilled appetizer. The service is excellent and the restaurant is bright and cheerful.
We make a point of dining at Molyvos whenever we are in New York. The high standard never varies.
It's expensive, but it's worth it.
Very good Greek food.
Fish was well prepared and cold cucumber soup was delicious and perfect for a summer night
Grilled octopus couldn’t be any better, it’s perfect. Good attentive service and good Greek wine selection by the glass.
The four of us tried ten different offerings including three cheeses, meat pie, meatballs, whole Greek fish, two salads and two desserts and all were outstanding examples of the best in Greek cusine. Server hailed from Cyprus and was very helpful in navigating the extensive menu. We had a wonderful experience and it convinced out two friends to agree that it was one of our favorites in NYC. The ten minute walk from the center of Broadway shows is well worth it!
Excellent greek food with wonderful service. The fixe price dinner and lunch are bargains with portions full size. Love the lamb appetizer the salmon enttee and every dessert. One of favorite NYC spots
Very nice restaurant. Service was awful, food was not served at the same time. They cleared across the plates. The waiters seemed bothered by having to wait on the table. The restaurant was not that busy and service should have been significantly better. Approached manager on way out and he blew off our feedback. For $400 tab for 5 people expected far better experience.
nice ambiance, quiet, good for conversation. wait staff very pleasant, don't rush, and provided good advice regarding the menu. Food was very good. we had several sauces with pita as appetizer which were quite flavorful and satisfying. the lamb shank and crabcake were excellent. a dessert of rice pudding with cherry sauce was out of this world.
Well prepared fresh fish and interesting Greek appetizers and side dishes. Good place to go before Carnegie Hall or City Center. But not “go to place” for great Greek food in NYC.
The food and wine were delicious!!! Our server was really great too. My only complaint is that for this reservation I wrote notes about how we were celebrating my father’s birthday and a bit of information about what to expect from us. There was no acknowledgement of his birthday nor any of my notes. This was disappointing and would not want anyone to expect great service from this restaurant. The food is amazing and the restaurant is a great spot for pre-theatre dinners because it’s next to Broadway.
Larger than expected, the entrance doesn't catch the eye. Seats go way back, and the effect is spacious. Folks aren't crowded on top of each other. Lots of serving staff, moving quickly and efficiently to deliver food. Food was yummy. Clean and clear tastes. The Prix Fixe was perfect (we shared the dessert.) Perfect for a pre-City Center dinner.
Food and service were good. We felt it was more expensive than warranted for the food and desert v
Food was outstanding and the hostess could not have been nicer. We went for our 10 year anniversary an they brought us 2 glasses of champagne, which was very sweet. The only knock I have is that I felt a bit rushed. Within just a few minutes of sitting down our waitress asked if we were ready to order. As the meal went on it was more relaxed and the waitress was helpful. I just got the feeling that they were looking to turn the table over quickly. Overall a fantastic night with just that one knock. I will definitely be back as the food is that good.
Great food. Service was poor but the food and am iance over compensated
Felt like we were back on Santorini. Great Greek beer, Asertyko wine , grilled octopus and fish
My friend and I dined at Molyvos prior to a Friday evening performance at Carnegie Hall. Our reservation was at 6:00 and the hostess at us promptly.
The food met our standards but the service did not, which is an issue mentioned in other reviews. We informed our server that our show started at 7:30. We reminded him later in the meal. The tables in either side of us were filled after we had placed our order. Regardless, these patrons were served their food and given their checks while we were working on our entrees, which arrived late. I finally had to request the check with the dessert. We missed the first half hour of the show.
Although we enjoyed the food, the experience left a bad taste in our mouths. It is a shame that subpar service marred our dining experience. The experience of others may be better depending on the server.
Other than the friend that I was dining with, my lunch experience at Molyvos was disappointing. Since I prefer to skip dessert, I opted for the regular lunch menu instead of the the prix fixe lunch which my lunch companion selected. Since I'm not a big eater, small portion size isn't much of a consideration for me but at Molyvos, the prix fixe lunch is clearly the better option in terms of the quantity of food. After questioning the waiter about possible choices, I opted for the shrimp salad which consisted of a few medium sized shrimp and some beans (I think they were cannellini beans) and not much else. For a $28 lunch entree, I expect more than an appetizer sized portion that doesn't even come with a salad or on a salad - particularly in a Greek restaurant. We had to ask the waiter for pita bread (nothing was put on the table even after the first course of the prix fixe lunch was served) and without it, I would have left hungry. The quality was good but nothing exceptional. The restaurant was more than half empty and the waiter should have been more attentive and eager to please.
Food was authentic and very good. Meze spreads were all outstanding. Moussaka was authentic (not the sodden mass so often served in U.S.), lemon chicken perfectly cooked, and day boat scallops expertly grilled. The home-made Baklava was as good as it gets, and the Baklava Sundae a novel and tasty confection. All Greece wine list is extensive.
One of the best restaurants I frequent. Always quiet, so a business discussion can be had. The food is always the best.
This is a favorite restaurant of mine. I love the food - a wide range of it. I even tried a new fig salad this
time and enjoyed it. (I am so committed to the Classic Greek that it is hard not to order it.) I had not met
your women wait staff before. Efficient, strong Greek women.
We went on a Monday evening and the restaurant was quiet. The overall décor of the restaurant is very pleasant. The service was surprisingly poor. We waited almost 30 minutes for someone to take our order and then the waitress was curt and impatient. It reminded me that when I had dinner there a few months ago when the restaurant was very busy, the service was very bad. It was a theater crowd and everyone was upset because it took so long to get checks. Anyway, on Monday night, no theater, no crowds and the service was still subpar.
I have been coming here for many years and it seems that the quality of the food has declined and the prices have increased. It will probably be my last visit - which is sad since it is very convenient to City Center and there are no other options for Greek food in the area. But with so many quality restaurants nearby, I will make another choice next time.
Molyvos is a beautiful, lightly upscale Greek restaurant. We dined for lunch. My two dining partners got the prix fixe and I ordered two appetizers. Food is fresh and well-prepared, although we had a few issues. My table mates were served their salads while I sat with no food in front of me. They brought both of my appetizers when the others' main course arrived. It would have been nice to have been asked by the waiter if I wanted one of my appetizers as an appetizer. We also did not receive bread and finally needed to ask. My lemon chicken soup was so salty, it was inedible and I had to send it back. The restaurant quickly brought me a new one which was better, but I recall this restaurant being much better in the past. Lastly, the yogurt dessert was a hunk of plain greek yogurt with 2 mushy strawberries on top-- more like something you would have for breakfast and disappointing as a dessert.
It was rather a quiet night on Father's Day.
It was my second time at Molyvos.
The food is excellent and the restaurant has a vast list of Greek wines.
To taste Greek flavor, I would definitely recommend anyone to visit Molyvos.
Everything from spread to grilled octopus to chicken to grilled whole fish, the food was straight to the core. No frill. The essence stands out.
Also the wine selections were excellent.
Love Greek cuisine , they serve very good fish and seafood. Will go there again .
Disappointing return visit to this restaurant. The Greek salad was fresh and tasty, but the spanakopita appetizer had little to recommend it. The moussaka was served in a crock and looked reheated and was overcooked. The best part of the meal, actually, was the bean dip that came with the bread.
Two appetizers, a salad and the moussaka, plus a glass of sparkling wine and a bottle of water, came to over $100 before tip.
Hardly a good value, nor a satisfying meal.
Desserts were a bit small in size. I had the GALATOBOURIKO and my friend the RAVINE. They were bite sized. I really relish sinking my teeth into a thick piece of GALATOBOURIKO!
Consistently marvelous. Whole grilled fish always perfectly prepared. Can be too noisy.
This was a surprise both because it’s in a hotel and its near the theater district. Loved the Greek salad and fresh fish. Great roomy tables and quiet atmosphere.
Great food, nice ambience, and a convenient location. Only thing missing is great service... we had a table of 7 and waiters were hard to come by when we needed something, even with the restaurant only 3/4 full on a Thurs night.
It was over priced, that’s expected for Times Square....but the food was only ok. I was craving moussaka, there’s was sub par. Not enough bechamel and it was oddly sweet. Perhaps it’s a palate thing, but I’ve never had raisins in my moussaka before, and I hope I never do again.
Consistently the best Greek food in midtown..we always enjoy our dinners before or after Carnegie Hall, Manhattan Theater Club at City Center or other cultural offerings in the area... Especially love the appetizers and spreads and the traditional main courses.
Molyvos is consistently good. Food, service, noise level, cocktails, house wines all a great value.
Very nice food
This restaurant is great value. We went for lunch (they have prix-fixe for about $35). There were many gluten-free items...and lunch was served in less than an hour. I would recommend this restaurant heartily.
Great food great waitress , great night
