We went for Valentine’s Day. It wasn’t busy. The service was slow and our server wasn’t in a pleasant mood. The drinks were ok. I expected better. The food was very disappointing. I had the prawns and scallops, which were bland. The rice it came with was a bit tangy. Overall, disappointing experience.
Great service, the food was amazing
For years Moyvos remains the gold standard for upscale Greek cuisine in New York City. The food is always delicious and perfectly prepared, the service is very attentive. And their signature dish, moussaka, is always delicious!
Attentive staff, front door coat check a big plus! Wine list lengthy with multiple options. Staff more than available to assist.
Good Greek restaurant to go to before going to City Center as it's just up the block. The food is good, the service is good and they get you out in time for the performance.
This makes a very good choice for pre-theater dining. They are excellent at getting you served and on your way without feeling rushed.
The Village Greek Salad was outstanding. I was expecting the typical Greek salad ingredients... romaine, red tomatoes, onion, olives. This salad had no lettuce in it, which was a nice change. Just nice chunks of vegetables and cheese, served at room temperature. Delicious.
My choice for the Lamb Shank Yuvetsi was OK. I am sure it was very authentic, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. But the other diners at our table selected the Roasted Free Range Chicken and the Grilled Marinated Wild Prawn & Sea Scallop Souvlaki, and they all really enjoyed their meals. The meals are filling enough that we passed on dessert.
We were seated at a table quiet enough that we could all enjoy dinner conversation without having to shout over our neighbors. Always appreciated.
Perfect pre-theatre dining. Perfect for City Center and Carnegie Hall. It's not easy to find good octopus in New York, and they serve it here, along with a nice selection of Greek appetizers and nicely cooked fish. Excellent wine list and waiters are very knowledgeable and helpful. The best selection of fine Greek wines. Will definitely return.
Molyvos is one of our favourite restaurants in new york city. Their food is excellent, the restaurant is beautiful. Service is fine. Overall, I would recommend. The Grilled Octopus is Fabulous !
We were a party of six and the unanimous opinion was it was a wonderful experience in every way. Good service, good food--we had a great time.
I ate lunch there the next day, so, yeah, it was great.
I hVe eaten at Molyvos and many of the other restaurants that are part of the Livanos group and have found them to have gone steadily downhill over the years. Friday night at Molyvos reinforced my opinion. The portions were tiny, barely enough for one person, overpriced, and fair. I had a reservation and we were seated in the bar, which was better than the original one they chose, at the entry corridor.
There are many, many Greek restaurants to choose from in NYC, this will no longer be on my list!
Try and get there early enough to have a wonderful and relaxed dinner before the 8 PM curtain--ask for a quiet table...it helps w/ the noise level.
Great place to eat before Carnegie Hall. Food is delicious but a little on the expensive side.
We were seated in the front of the restaurant, near the bar, and it was terribly noisy. I was told there was nothing in the back, even though I had a reservation. Very disappointing.
Molyvos is a solid option in the Carnegie Hall/City Center area. I got the restaurant week special which included keftedes which were really tender in a delicious tzatziki sauce. Salmon came perfectly medium rare with crisped skin over gigante beans. On point although it needed some salt & pepper. Walnut cake for dessert was decadent. Will continue to return to Molyvos!
A great pre-dinner choice. We'll be back often, next time with a group of friends.
The food was outstanding, I went during restaurant week. I saw the regular prices and they're quite high. It's not for everyday but for a special occasion it's is definitely worth the splurge.
We enjoyed an excellent lunch during restaurant week. Great value
Food was just ok; service mediocre. Have been here before and liked it. May have been an off night this time.
Molyvos is my "go to" spot for business lunches. Excellent Greek food. Menu has lots of variety and offers food at many different price points. Generally good value (particularly relative to other Midtown options).
Excellent restaurant. We visit every time we come to New York
Consistently excellent food quality, amazing wine list, attentive staff.
Big restaurant ‘ more look like for tourists ‘ food was 50/50’ I’m order with my husband lamb/beef meatballs ‘ was like just bread inside ‘ feel like nothing special ‘ but next I’m order organic chicken was delicious ‘ well done ! Not salty ‘ it’s very good ‘ dessert it’s ok to sweet )
I had the grilled whole fish (Branzino) -----it was just fair in portion size and taste, came with absolutely nothing else on the plate (not even a piece of parsley or lemon!), no vegetables or potato (if wanted them had to pay $12 for a side dish in addition to the $38 for only the fish!). Overpriced for what it was. My friends had the Restaurant week dinner and thought it was good and a decent value. I was sorry I ordered the whole fish (which I usually love and enjoy) and would not bother to go back to this restaurant.
We had dinner here after an afternoon concert at Carnegie Hall, bringing a guest who is a member of the Israel Philharmonic. Molyvos is one of our family's special occasions restaurants. The food is very tasty, the service is perfect, and - most important - the restaurant is quiet enough to converse and hear each other.
Perfect ambiance - low-key atmosphere, unpretentious, spacious, excellent food and gracious staff.
Second time eating here both times were great the only thing I can say bad is that we felt rushed but overall great food.
Weekend Price Fix $48 option not much of a bargain, but other items on the menu are great; lamb chops, sea bass done just right and sensible portions. Wines by the glass a little pricey, so a bottle (good selection of Greek wines) is a better buy. Great service, lovely calm, casually elegant dining room. Good choice for a night of dinner and concert at Carnegie Hall just across the street.
Portions were very stingy, and food was bland. Way too expensive for what we got! Would not go back!
Molyvos met all of my expectations in terms of food and service. Great experience.
Despite having a corner table for lunch, it was very noisy around us. Some people like to be loud for attention and could care less about those around them. Tables by the entrance looked like a better spot. Anyway, the food is outstanding. We went the tapas/appetizer route and were very pleased with our choices. Service was okay, not particularly friendly but professional. The enadame/pistachio spread is to die for, as well as the keftedes.
I have eaten here numerous times. Place is good for a quick pre-theater dinner in the area. But the food has gone downhill recently. Some dishes were very good. Others were off. Hit or miss.
This has long been one of my favorite restaurants in the city but I haven't been there in years. I was pleased to say that it was as good as I had remembered...with terrific starters, salads, entrees, etc. Ambiance suits pretty much any occasion and the menu variety allows for authenticity and variety at the same time.
Molyvos is a wonderful restaurant. The food is outstanding and the service is exceptional.
Food was fabulous. We had a lovely time cause we weren’t rushed. Very pretty restaurant.
Food was amazing
Excellent all around experience. Cuisine and service were great. Highly recommended.
Expensive but delicious
Visited with the family; shared awesome appetizers and had awesome meals.
Fantastic! Wonderful, friendly accommodating staff! Terrific and authentic Greek food and the cocktails were delicious. Great location and I absolutely plan to be back.
