Mokutanya Yakitori Charcoal Ratings and Reviews
Great selection of Yakitori — our favorite Yakitoris were eel, gindara, and the black cod. The ambience is perfect for a date night. However, the service was poor. The server mixed up our order with someone else, and she couldn’t remember what dishes have come to our table.
Great ambiance, novel setting - food was excellent. We asked the chef to make recommendations for us which were fabulous. Delicious grilled meats and sashimi, extensive sake menu.
Our only complaint was that the entire evening the food kept coming, but no dishes were leaving - they just piled up in unappealing, messy stacks reminding us of all that we had eaten. One or two bus boys would do very nicely here.
Otherwise this was a great overall experience!
They forgot some of the items I ordered when I filled in the piece of paper they give you to place the order. They never brought those items, then charged them to my bill. The miso soup they brought at the end of the meal. I had to ask them to remove a 3 items from the bill. All of the food is great, the ambiance is wonderful, but they always seem to forget stuff you order.
Very authentic yakiniku! The gyu tan (beef tongue) and yakitori is to die for!! Great sake as well. Also, love the cozy Japanese traditional box seating.
The service was exceptional. The servers took great care of us, the food was hot and fresh and arrived quickly
Having lived in Tokyo for several years, I can attest to the fact that Mokutanya is as authentic as it gets!
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the ambience. The staff were very attentive, even when the kitchen backed up a little. Food was excellent. Especially enjoyed the fried salmon skewers and the fried purple yam chips. Definitely a great place for conversation, Nice quiet setup.
Always love this place. Environment is quiet and private - every table separated from others w/ glass walls. Never saw a waiter, but the waitresses are all great and attentive. Food is tapas style - so just nibble all night. Beer/Sake - all good. Spent over 4 hours here this particular night - loved it. Limited parking is the only downside.
This is a nice restaurant that has fantastic small skewers of a wide variety of different meats and vegetables prepared in a variety of ways. Its a fantastic place for a small group to order lots of dishes and try a wide variety of different food. There is a great selection of Sake as well; a nice night out!
Mokutanya is a confusing place. The food is good, although the skewers are more expensive than other yakitori places that are equally as tasty. I like that each dining table is separated, it gives a feeling of privacy, and I also like the low tables which do have the option of sitting normally or cross-legged. It feels like they are going for a more traditional style in terms of the dining room. However, there is a loud club-like music blasting from the speakers, which does not fit with the initial impression of the restaurant. Morever, the service was spotty. We were brought two of one item, while they forgot other parts of our order. We had to remind them twice that we were still waiting for food. The bill was incorrect, and the entire meal required us to keep track of what we had ordered, what had come, and what we should be paying for. I did like the food, and I would go again, but there are defintely other yakitori places in the area with better ambience, service and value for money.
Everything was fantastic, except for the service! Our server was horrible - completely forgot to put in our second food order, and our desert came out before the rest of the food. We waited for 40 minutes to even address the situation. Other than that, the place is awesome and the food was great. Expensive, but worth it.
