Started out a little rocky having to wait 15 min til we saw a server. Place was very busy for weeknight and they were definitely understaffed. But finally we were recognized and had very good service going forward. Big problem was a noisy group next to us that made it difficult to have a conversation. Not Mokomandy’s fault but will impact where we sit in the future. On a positive note, we had the grilled oysters for first time and they were outstanding!
Our 2nd visit, this time with relatives. We had the recommended "small plates" allowing lots of different tastes, shared by all of us, and all plates were delicious. If you like beers there is a nice list of bottled beers, which seems to go with this food as well or better than wines. Highly recommended.
We drove 40 minutes to have dinner at Mokomandy, and it was completely worth it. Our only complaint is that we ate so much that we felt overstuffed by dinner's end. The standout dishes were the Korean spicy fried chicken, the Cajun cassoulet, and the wild boar bowl. Order a side of pork cracklins or a dish of the thin and crispy catfish if you have a large group and want to snack between dishes. It was a really fun dining experience.
The food, as usual, was creative and exciting, and presented exquisitely. The cocktails were also an adventure for the taste buds, and again, their appearance both in type of glassware and garnishes were phenomenal. Service was attentive, and we arrived prior to our reservation and were able to be seated immediately. The atmosphere is comforting and comfortable, and my friend and I very much enjoyed the chance to catch up over some exotic food and drink.
Amazing service. Very knowledgeable. Great food and drinks! It was a drive to get there but well worth it. Will definitely go again!
The food was absolutely delicious! Need to start going there more often!
Food was outstanding, as usual. Never disappointed.
Wonderful place for something creative and a little different. Great place to go for a birthday!
Laura our server was great! The food was excellent.
Great food, awesome service, not a run of the mill Menu which is super. Staff goes above and beyond. We'll be back soon.
Heard about Mokomandy and wanted to experience it. I was delighted about the quality of the food in a casual setting. No pretenses. Enjoyed it immensely.
We've been here about 4 or 5 times in the past 4 months and this is still our favorite restaurant. Only reason we don't come more is that we're coming from D.C. Still worth the drive.
Excellent as always, love the food, drinks and service.
This restaurant is always busy in the evenings. We have been frequent diners. My grown kids from out of town always ask me to make reservations when they visit. The menu is authentic and the preparation is excellent. The desserts are outstanding. Only problem is noise if a large group is in attendance. The service is always near perfect.
Terrible customer service from the host. Food quality was good but the overall service was and experience was poor - has a 9pm reservation and had to wait until 9:50 to be seated with little to no concern from the host.
The service was a little slow, but the food was still outstanding. The only thing I did not care for was the red sangria- usually this drink was fabulous, but they missed the mark this time. It was very slow to get the drinks so the server comped us 3 drinks which was very gracious. I had the veal breast tacos and curry pasta with braised pheasant, and my husband had the wild boar bowl - all delicious! This is a really great dining choice for this area.
Attentive, thoughtful service. Wonderful, creative food. We've been here several times, and I always look forward to what I know will be a foodie evening to remember. Was tickled to share the experience with some friends, and Mokomandy did not disappoint. Looking forward to regular visits. Keep up the good work!
Went to Mokomandy on a date with my husband. Loved the cocktails. Our server, Julia, gave good advice on both drinks and which food to pick. The food was unique and tasty. We especially liked the Korean BBQ sliders and the house-made noodles. In an area where most restaurants are trendy, it was nice to find a place that does things its own way and does it well.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and loved the cocktails... good for a date night.
Definitely lived up to the reviews. The pot roast sliders, octopus, curry pasta, bone marrow, Cajun cassoulet, jambalaya, Korean tacos were great. Korean Cajun tapas.
Fantastic food and great value. Our server, Julia, was very nice and knowledgeable, and didn’t spend too much time table-side—but while obviously very busy managed to swing by just enough for whatever we needed and for a quick conversation. I had noted my girlfriend’s several allergies in our reservation and the chef/staff had prepared a special menu for her with only safe foods for her. 10/10 would recommend for a casual but high quality dinner. We will be back.
Mokomandy is a terrific find in Sterling! A+ service and delicious, well-crafted dishes. Don't miss the fantastic cocktails, starting with Bees in the Garden!
We go to Mokomandy for the delicious & innovative food, the fabulous Moscow Mules & on point service. Never had a poor experience & we will continue to visit!
Worth all the hype! A friend discovered this restaurant several years ago and led us through a magical first experience. Start the meal off with a selection from the specialty cocktail menu -- the quality of this brew will put you in the right frame of mind and highlight the attention to detail and flavors to come. I recommend the jalapeno margarita.
Small plates are priced for 2 or 3 portions, and our server did a magnificent job of doubling or augmenting our selections to ensure full bites for our party of 4. We filled up on pot roast sliders, foie gras dumplings, veal tacos, pork belly octopus, shaved catfish, and bone marrow. Take the suggestion to enjoy the bone marrow "Bulleit Alley style" - after consuming the marrow and toast, drink bourbon from the empty bone to pick up the remaining tasty bits. Yum! All of the plates were delicious, a bit indulgent, and served at a comfortable pace.
Mokomandy was such a great experience... I think it will be my birthday restaurant :-).
Excellent, eclectic, interesting food.
really fun experience with friends. Looking for something totally different, but where every dish is amazing, this is a winner. If you have food allergies like I do, it can be difficult since almost everything is cooked in soy or contains gluten.
My wife and I had a fantastic 21st Anniversary dinner. Colorful cocktails, fabulous food, super service. Laura, our server, was awesome, quirky, and very accommodating. Order a jalapeño passion fruit margarita! We each had two! We’ve been many times since they opened years ago and Mokomandy still has that spark.
The food was unique and so delicious and the service was wonderful. We’ll definitely go back and recommend to others.
