Mokomandy Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I had a fantastic 21st Anniversary dinner. Colorful cocktails, fabulous food, super service. Laura, our server, was awesome, quirky, and very accommodating. Order a jalapeño passion fruit margarita! We each had two! We’ve been many times since they opened years ago and Mokomandy still has that spark.
Food is always interesting, delicious, and well prepared. Try to sample as many of the small and medium plates as you can - that's where the chef demonstrates the most creativity. Lots of craft and international beers, great cocktails, and the wine list is small but solid.
I have been to Mokomandy before, and really enjoyed it. I hope that this was an off night for them. The food was extremely delayed and cold when it arrived. The fried kale was like a grease slick. The worst part was our server, who was not attentive.
I understand that restaurants can be busy, and staffing is always a challenge- but this was very disappointing, and our dinner companions who have never been there before stated they will not return.
We ALWAYS enjoy our meals at Mokomandy!!! Service is always on point and the food is too good to be true. Drink list for cocktails and wine is great, and they even have good non-alcoholic beverage options. Have been here over and over again for years and will never get tired of the cuisine or service 😊 WE LOVE MOKOMANDYS!!!
All of the food was good and some of it was really great. Recommend the jambayla, ssam, hush puppies, hoppin john and the coffee. We ordered too much, so pace yourselves. They ran out of a number of items while we were there. Also, the cocktails came one at a time, with quite a bit of lag in between. We had to ask more than once for things like ice or cream. The waitress was very nice been seemed too busy. The chef came out to see us twice and made a special dessert because they had run out of the things were interested in. Despite the unevenness, I would definitely return. The food is just too good.
We have been dining at Mokomandy since it opened - the food is unique, flavorful and inventive. The service has always been great and the bar has a fun vibe. They have an amazing beer and cocktail selection and - while their wines are fine - they are a bit pricey. Both the Cajun and Korean specialties never disappoint - Jambalaya, hand-made noodles, Bulgogi beef etc.
It's not super cozy, but the noise level is moderate and just the right amount for talking privately without the next table hearing.
The brunch menu is limited but it is fantastic and a great bargain. Just wish they were open for lunch!
The food and service are absolutely amazing! We are never disappointed. We enjoy sitting at the bar. Everyone is very friendly. The servers know their food! The drinks are unique and creative. They can customize drinks according to what you prefer. The seafood arrives at your table cooked to perfection! We enjoy sharing everything we order! We try to go once a week. We also go for special occasions.
Over all the experience was good, ambiance was modern, good drinks, beer and wine menu. Food was very good, could use more large or family plates to share for main course. Otherwise if it is small plates you are looking for this is a great place. Service though informative was very slow, with a group of six we were seated right away but 10 minutes past before anyone came to the table for a drink order. The food when ordered came very slowly in no specific order of dishes. When I go out for a nice dinner I expect better service.
We tried Mokomandy based upon its ranking on Northern Virginia magazine's list of top 50 restaurants for 2017 (it was #4), and boy are we glad we did. The food was fantastic, the service wonderful, and the overall atmosphere was fun and modern. I was shocked that such a restaurant was in Sterling, VA, it is on the caliber of a DC restaurant. We did several small dishes, including the deviled eggs (to die for!), foie gras dumplings, Korean pork sliders (yum! yum!), and stuffed mushrooms. We also ordered the fingerling potatoes, but they were extremely dry, and too much pepper, not good. We told the waitress and she said their policy is if someone doesn't like something, they make it right. So she went back to the kitchen and brought us back a new order, and the second time they were great! Something evidently went wrong with the first batch. We ordered a medium plate to share, the gnocchi, and OMG, this was amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone that eats here. Mokomandy is such a find, we will be back many times I am sure. I can't recommend this restaurant enough!!!
It was a different type of menu - and that's the reason we went there. You will definitely need help understanding the menu, but it is well worth the time to listen and try a bunch of different flavors even though you may not think your going to like something. The Char was fantastic and we enjoyed the Bulgogi the most. . We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back to try the rest of the menu.
