Moerlein Lager House Ratings and Reviews
The staff was very accommodating and the food was delicious. The manager tried to please us and made us feel important.
The restaurant may want to have a better system when it comes to people meeting each other there. We waited for almost an hour for another couple who had arrived soon after we did. They were sitting downstairs and we were upstairs. We had to go looking for them. We thought the staff should have suggested looking for them before we did.
The manager was very apologetic and offered us free appetizers and desserts.
Recommended by a friend, this restaurant lives up to its' reputation as being large and lively and having great food! A little disappointed in where we were seated even though making a reservation and specifying this was for an anniversary; we still had a somewhat decent view of the bridge and river seated at a window table along the side. Our server was excellent and attentive, but not overly so; which is what we prefer. To start, we ordered a pretzel to go with our beer flight and the pretzel was disappointing being more bread than pretzel. Dinner was prime rib (done to perfection) and short ribs for my wife. The prime rib ordered rare was just that, but lacked in flavor. The wife's short ribs entree was the stand out. The meat was flavorful and melted in your mouth. Cheddar potatoes were excellent and green beans were perfectly cooked--crisp, not wimpy. We also had Caesar salads which were generous and delicious. Dinner was filling and even though we were not intending on having dessert, our server did not ask if we would be interested, which was surprising. We might have taken dessert as a "to go" had we been enticed to do so. In all, we were pleased with the experience, but keep in mind this is a very lively place and the noise level was very high (it was a Sat. night). In other words, most older people will not enjoy the noise level.
I love it there. I was surprised that it wasn't more crowded, after a Bengals game. We were seated quickly, so definitely make reservations. We had a perfect view of the Suspension Bridge and Paul Brown Stadium. We started with the meat and cheese board. The selection of meats and cheeses was excellent. Also, we had the triple dip. It's hummus, guacamole and spinach artichoke dip. It was excellent also. I had the salmon with hollandaise, asparagus and fingering potatoes. The fish was moist, and cooked perfectly. It could have been a little warmer, but otherwise, it was good. I had a couple margaritas. They were just right, not too strong. The service was impeccable. I would say that it's definitely worth the money. I can't wait to go back.
Fantastic service for a special occasion outing. I highly recommend making reservations on a Saturday evening or you could have a long wait. We arrived a few minutes before our reserved time and were seated right away. We weren't in a hurry so took our time to order. Our server was fantastic and the manger as well when he stopped by to say hello. Highly recommend trying the OTR beer as well as the apple bread pudding! Great place with beautiful views of the city. We'll definitely be back!!
Nice views or the skyline and the river. My husband had the MoerBurger and loved it. I had the Beer can chicken sandwich and it was BLAH!!! one of the most boring I have had-- melted cheese on chicken with onion and red pepper. Really dry and flavorless white bun (brioche). Would NOT recommend-- burgers WAY better! Fries nothing special, sweet potato chips yummy. Huge beer list, okay on wines by the glass. We ran out of water and did not get a refill until we hailed down a bus person. service was not the best where we were sitting.... a really nice view and fun people people watching.
Beautiful place, great views (especially from upstairs). Unfortunately, we went to eat. Food is sub par. The soft pretzels were crunchy, the chicken on the salad looked and tasted like blackened rubber, nachos tasted stale. If you just go for beer, it's a great spot. Go somewhere else for dinner.
Didn't think of going to Moerlein Lager House for Brunch until it came up on Open Table. It's adjacent to the new AC Hotel at the Banks where we stayed for the Blink event over the weekend. It was pretty empty which is unusual for this place but again, you normally don't think of going there for Sunday Brunch...but perhaps you should.
The food was pretty good and they offered some not so typical stuff that worked out pretty well.
It's a relatively limited menu, but what we ordered (weekend casserole with a fire roasted tomato topping and a benedict dish that featured a short rib base and a jalapeno sauce) was pretty tasty.
The service was good but we were not offered anything like a mimosa or Bloody Mary which might have raised this to a 5 star review.
My son attended a rehearsal dinner there. Said the food was fantastic. We were in town to see Wicked and took his advice. There were 4 of us, 22-60, and we had the had pork shank, Oscar Salmon, orange glazed half a chicken, and smothered chicken. We tried the macaroni and cheese for an appetizer as he said to make sure we tried that. The meals and the service were outstanding. Will definitely recommend to others. We will definitely come back!
Our waitress could have been a little more attentive. Our beers were wrong. We like beer so drank what was served but wasn't what was ordered. Had she come back to ask us about another beer (before they were completely gone) we would have told her and got a second beer. Instead we just left.
Date night with wife. Sat outside on second floor. Had the caprese and slaughter house flatbreads with onion rings. A couple of beers to go with. I give everything an A plus for this particular evening. Made our night to have everything go so well. We will be back and I recommend.
We LOVE this restaurant! My son goes to Miami U in Ohio and he misses the city and water, as we are from Boston. We drive to Cincinnati and enjoy the views and food at Moerlein Lager House - it's overlooking the Ohio River. Situated right in between Reds and Bengals stadiums, its a great location as well. We enjoyed the food very much as well, and you MUST TRY the pretzels. Looking forward to my next visit! Both times we went, we had incredibly friendly table service, and appreciated that a lot. Highly recommend.
I have been to Moerlein Lager House a handful of times and have always had a decent experience. It is typically very crowded - but I have always felt that is a good sign. I reserved a table about a week in advance for 8 people. Some friends were coming in from out of town and I thought this would be the perfect place to take them! When arriving my reservations were completely ignored and we were told we could sit in the Bier Garten. I explained that we were wanting to sit in the restaurant part and had reservations and would wait for out table. This was once again ignored and I was then told to go upstairs and see if they had any available seating. We found a table for 8 and sat down. We were quickly bombarded with people asking what we were doing. When I explained we were following the downstairs hostess' instructions we were rudely shrugged off and told that they would "still take our money" as if we had done something wrong. I had not have a bad experience here before, but after seeing multiple staff's reactions and disregard, I will not be coming back or recommending it to anyone.
Everyone seemed overwhelmed the Saturday night that we visited. It seemed as if they didn’t have enough help on the floor or in the kitchen. They didn’t even have enough silverware. Our poor waiter had way too many tables to manage well.
The food was good. Unfortunately the noise was horrendous. We are a pretty easy going family and we couldn’t wait to leave. I would only visit again with a large group to watch a game.
Was seated at a table that was against a pole with an exit light above the table. The first person to come over to the table introduced herself then told us that she couldn't remember the name of our server but she would be there shortly and got us waters. We took our time with picking out a beer flight and an appetizer, which was good since it took a while before we had out server come back to take the order. We received our appetizer in a timely manner and ordered our entree. My steak was slightly under cooked but was tasty. The biggest problem we had was that it took almost 45 minutes to get our bill from the time the server took our plates and said " I'll be right back with your check". We had not had a refill on our water nor was checked on to see if we wanted more beer (which we would have both had atleast one glass of our favorite from the flight). After she cleared our plates we started talking about our plans for the rest of the evening and then noticed it had been over 20 minutes since we had seen her. We started looking for any sign of her or someone else that could help us out. After about 15 more minutes she reappears and is helping the table behind is box up their leftovers, after she was done with that we flagged her down and again asked for the bill and she commented " sorry about the wait I'll have it right out." It still took 10 minutes from then. Food tasted good, beer was excellent, but that Service was bad!
