Moerlein Lager House Ratings and Reviews
Promptly seated at reservation time. Service was rather hit or miss but, overall, ok. Entrees ordered: two prime rib meals. Very tasty and highly recommended. For desert was the cherry black forest cake, it is ok. The only reason I cannot return is that there is no hot water in the restrooms to wash hands and there are only Dyson hand air dryers to dry hands. No paper towels; therefore, must use bare hand to open door. Not sanitary.
I had a reservation but someone in our party fell ill and our plans changed, making us run late. Made a call to Moerlein to reduce our number by one and see if they could take us 30 minutes later. The manager, Angela I think, could not have been more kind or helpful, and she got us in so we didn't have to rush or be late for our Cyclones game. Excellent service all around, and everyone enjoyed their food and beers. Thanks!
Fairly consistent food and service. The squash Wellington is always a great dish. This time around I had the pork shank. It was New Year's Eve, early in the evening. The place was a madhouse. What was described as a "succulent" dish came to the table a bit tepid and dry. The flavor profile was decent, the green beans nicely prepared. The mashed potatoes were hardening as I began to dig in to the shank. Had it not been a crazy evening I am certain the food would have been served at better temperatures and intervals. The lagerhaus salad was good!!! The servers were on their games, food runners were extremely pleasant in the face of chaos. If you've not been, please check out the place. Great view of northern Kentucky, the river, the suspension bridge and downtown Cincy depending on where you sit.
Our waitress and food were amazing. The hostess took forever to find our reservation and then walked around with an iPad the entire time to see how far we were with our meal. We felt extremely rushed. I understand it was 4:30 on New Years but she could have tried to make it a little less obvious.
There were 9 of us and last time they also seated us at the large table NOT by the window, which is right by the kitchen and has no desirable view. No biggie, though. It took a long time to get food - over an hour - which is semi-understandable since they were very busy and we had a "larger" group, but still too long of a wait. And upon receiving our food, there were several mistakes (my daughter got a plain cheeseburger which came loaded, my husband got steak with no butter on top and it came with the butter, my mother got tilapia without pico de gallo and guacamole, which came with it all, and our appetizer (pretzels) took about 45-50 minutes, which the server said should only take 2!) Our server was very polite and apologetic, but it still made for some unhappy diners. Overall, I generally have enjoyed Moerlein and will probably go back again, but if this had been our fist visit, I'm not so sure I'd be returning, and I doubt some from our party will want to dine there in the future.
We met here with friends from the other side of town - it's a nice in between stop for us all. Both the food and the beer are good and reasonably priced. It has been a nice go to place for us when we are downtown. This is the first time we have made a reservation - all times between 5:15 and 8:30 were marked as full on open table so we ate early at 5:15 - the restaurant was not full at all. That was the only disappointment.
Our server was very friendly and paid special attention to the 4 year old in the group. Glad that we made reservations and added time to eat before the show because the restaurant got busy quickly which slowed the service. The kids’ selections were disappointing. The kids’ pasta was very ‘herby’ and the 4 year old, normally a good eater, said she did not like it. The 7 year old ordered Mac and cheese and did not eat it. The adult food was good although the onion rings were not hot. Especially liked the Mole Stout.
Our waiter was extremely slow and inattentive. I’ve been here numerous times and the food really was quite average this time. I’m not sure I’d bother coming back. The real disappointment came in that I requested a table by a window so my teenage children who had never been could be treated to the great view. Instead we were put behind a wall, with the view only visible if we stood. When bringing other first-time guests in the past, my request for a window table has always been granted. I was highly disappointed and apologized to my children for the lackluster food and lack of a view.
We had a wonderful nighttime view of the Roebling Suspension Bridge (Cincinnati's finest) and very good service from a knowledgeable waiter. My food was good, however, two other members of our party said their food was just okay. Love this restaurant for the view and location, and the wide selection of beer.
