Moerlein Lager House Ratings and Reviews
Great atmosphere, wonderfully friendly staff but to food was disappointing. My asparagus was over cooked, limp and flavorless. The brussel sprouts were salty. The Mac n cheese was flavorful so overall I would say comfort food place, not the place to go for a healthy meal.
It was so loud we couldn’t even talk across the table. We were disappointed after having such a lovely visit in June. Next time I’ll be sure to ask to be seated upstairs. Downstairs is just too loud. We measured 86.8 decibels! Food, service and view are great. Such a shame to spoil it.
I have eaten here several times, and while the setting is great, the beers always interesting, and the service above average, I just never seem to enjoy my meal. I've tried most of the "customer favorites" and also tried going a little different, but it's always a near miss for me. Most recently I had the blackened chicken salad, a giant bowl full to overflowing with your basic lettuce with a scattering of toppings and a chicken breast that was the palest "blackened" item I've ever had, to the point of almost being underdone. Just sort of ok is how I'd describe the food.
This is the noisiest restaurant ever, in the world. I will be back, but I will definitely bring ear plugs. Food was great, service was good. Seating was 20 minutes past our reservation time (not good). Also— bourbon is HUGE right now! Jump on the bandwagon and get some more variety. And for the classy in all of us, an Old Fashioned has Luxardo cherries, not Maraschino.
Fun place to go. Very large beer selection and the food is very good. Can be a little on the expensive side depending on what you order. About the only thing is the noise. When they are busy (most of the time) it is very very noisy inside. With the modern design everything is metal or wood and nothing soft to absorb the sound. It would be nice if they could add some sound proofing to reduce the noise levels.
The view was definitely the best part of the evening. We made our reservations with Open Table - that was easy; 7PM on a Friday night. We were seated right away. Our server was a little brash, which I did not appreciate. I ordered the German Sausage Platter. It was boring, underwhelming and unremarkable. The other three dining with me were satisfied with their steaks.
Last minute idea to go see a band & get dinner somewhere. We decided Lager House was perfect! I downloaded the open table app & made reservations right from my phone, it couldn’t have been easier. We’ve been there before & knew it was great food, drink, & service. It didn’t disappoint! I highly recommend the baby back ribs, delicious!!
Upon seating us - it was obvious that the table had not been cleaned nor the area around it. There were green beans, fries and what looked like maybe bread that you had to step through to get into the booth seat. We had to flag down the manager to order drinks and find a waiter. Overall the restaurant was very noisy, unable to carry on a conversation, the food was good, but for a bill of approx. $50 per person for hamburgers, no alcohol, I didn't feel that it was worth it.
Even though our reservation requested a window seat, we had to wait an additional 20minutes for a table there. Food was outstanding- excellent taste and portions. However, our service was very disappointing- had to contact the manager d/t our waitress would frequently pass our table without checking on things, didn't bring promised refills or beer samples. She took our order, but other staff brought out salads, the appetizer and our food. Have been here before, and it is one of my favorite dinner places- so we will definitely be back, but not a great experience this time.
The food was absolutely fabulous. We were there for my daughter's 21st birthday, and they had some interesting cocktails to choose from. We started with a charcuterie board which was great. The shrimp & grits was the best we'd ever had. The grilled cheese and shortrib sandwich was also very tasty. We all tasted each other's food and everything was delicious. The view of the river at night was very pretty. It is fairly loud in here. It IS a lager house, not a quiet romantic type of place - but I think a few acoustic tweaks could make a difference as it was kinda hard to hear each other talk across the booth. I would definitely go recommend this place for the food!!
