Modo Mio - Pacific Palisades Ratings and Reviews
We were seated at station #10; a charming , intimate corner table that concealed kirchen activity and sounds.
We ordered two entrees. The complete , cooked Dover Sole was delivered to our table for our perusal ansd approval. Then it was returned to the kitchen to be filetted before being served to us. It was perfectly seasoned; perfectly prepared and although it is a thin fish, it remained moist and flavorful.
The second entree was grilled , herbed, loin lamb chops , ordered to be prepared medium. And this too was perfectly prepared with a warm, pink center. We requested al dente olive oil/ garlic linguine. It was an excellent accompaniment. Their Tolusa Pinot Noir contributed to being a delightful complimentary dining partner.
Service throughout was impeccable, friendly, engaging , knowledgeable and timely during the course of our evening which ended with a double espresso and tiramisu, Kalua soaked lady fingers. This was our sweet denouement.
It was a delicious dinner and well served by an attentive and experienced waiter. Between us we had the fresh branzino, a lasagna and a risotto. All were well prepared. There is a good selection of wines by the glass. The room is quiet and we weren't fighting the noise of other diners nor of loud music. A pleasure!
This is a longtime neighborhood standby for us. We probably go three times a month. The room is actually quite beautiful, the staff members are nice, and the food is excellent. Highly recommended: risotto del padre (chicken and asparagus), chicken Siciliano, and a great Bolognese sauce that can be had with any pasta shape.
Modo Mio is, hands down, the best restaurant in the Palisades. If you close your eyes, you would swear you are in Italy. The food is as favorable, the aroma is as tantalizing and the variety is as great as any fine restaurant in Rome. The servers are a perfect mix of professionalism and friendliness, the service is provided at a perfect pace and the other diners are polite. I would eat there every day if I could, and often lunch there two to three times a week when possible. No-one I've ever dined with has had anything but a perfect meal!!
The hostess a female brown hair was really rude. It's like we were bothering her to seat us. Then later on in the night we asked her something and again was really snippy. But we had a fabulous waiter and busboy. Food was good not amazing but worth the price. Very quiet so we could enjoy our friends.
This was probably an off night for this restaurant, as we had dined there before.
On Sunday, my entrée was cold (it was one I had ordered previously, so I know what it should be like).
We had to ask the waiter for plates for our shared appetizer--grilled vegetables. He was not real happy to provide them.
Dishes at our table were not picked up.
Modo Mio is a friendly neighborhood gem with delicious Northern Italian cuisine. Great pastas, delicious meat dishes like chicken Milanese, scottadito (lamb chops) and fish like Branzino. The room is cozy and feels like a country home. A lovely choice for friends and family
Very good italian food, including enticing specials & wide variety of wines. Several specials to consider, many of them uniquely appealing, such as mixed greens salad with various fruits, small chunks of chicken & a perfect lemony dressing. Grilled veal chop always perfect, & their special grilled lamb chops were perfectly seasoned & cooked -- just the right touch of pink.
We were looking for a casual Italian restaurant with good authentic Italian food in a nice comfortable atmosphere, with good service and at a reasonable value. We found all of that at Modo Mio. We drove 8 mins out of the Santa Monica craziness to arrive at a quiet street in Pacific Palisades with easy parking and walked upstairs to the second floor into a restaurant in a bank building. The restaurant is on the small side and was packed when we arrived at 7pm. It appeared to be a nice casual restaurant (a tendency toward a notably older crowd (70+), along with a few families like ourselves). Although it is a casual restaurant, it still quite nice with white table cloths and the feel that you were there for a nice dinner out and not just grabbing a quick meal. Bread basket served with butter was simple, but good, and they were happy to refill as they were crowded and so we waited a bit for our server. Given our wait (which really wasn't all that bad) they brought us a plate of complimentary sauteed mushrooms between our salads and dinner. Our server was clearly very busy, but he was also very pleasant when he was at our table. We all enjoyed our main dishes - 2 got chicken and 3 different pasta dishes. We all also agreed we'd found a great Italian neighborhood restaurant and we will definitely return.
Reservations were honored even though we were late getting there. The service was ok and the food was good. We felt however that we should have been told in advance how the Lambchops were going to be prepared. Several people were very disappointed.
I was told that they would accept separate checks as there were four couples. That was not the case. Three couples ordered wine. The fourth couple insisted on a separate check which they got as they did not drink.
Three couples split the bill.
My wife and I have lived in Pacific Palisades for over 11 years and I can't believe we waited this long to try this fantastic local restaurant right in the heart of the village. Needless to say, it won't be nearly that long before we return with our children and other family and friends to mark special celebration or any other occasion worthy of great food, service and setting.
