Left out chicken on pasta dish, wait staff seemed confused, food just adequate
Amazing waitstaff and really good Italian food
I've written about this restaurant before, and I've now been there 5 more times for lunch or dinner. Its delicious food keeps bringing me back, along with superb service, and a great atmosphere.
The service was amazing.
Our out of town guests were so impressed by the staff, wine and food.
The staff made us feel like family and guests at the same time.
This was our first visit to Modo Mio and we will be back.
Good food. Friendly service. Reasonable prices
Absolutely wonderful restaurant! You could close your eyes and point to anything on the menu and whatever you get would be delicious! Service is impeccable !
Great winter luncheon special including wine and dessert. Friendly staff.
Arrived about 15 minutes for our reservation on Valentine's day and we're seated right away. The restaurant is small but not too cramped. They piped in piano music and used nice table linens which improved the ambience of an otherwise strip mall sized location. The food and service was excellent from bread to dessert. We even got a complimentary off menu appetizer of marinated mushrooms. They have a huge wine list. Would definitely return.
We went on Valentine's Day and even though it was extremely busy the service was attentive, the food was great, and did not feel rushed so they could turn the table. Would definitely go back again!!!!!
Food and service are incredible at this Crystal Cove gem. Wine list is affordable and well researched. Desserts are incredible as well. All entrees were and looked great. Portions are perfect. Noisy but the good more than accounts for that
Amazing gnocchi and zucca (ravioli with butternut squash)!
We love Modo Mio in particular due to the consistency of the food and waitstaff, and have patronized the restaurant for many years
Food has been delicious and consistent. Liked the mushroom salad(?)
So far not disappointing...
This restaurant has become a "go to" for us. Wonderful food, good wine, good service, friendly diners. It gets a bit loud when full...and as inviting as the window seating is, avoid this area because of too much noise if you are having a conversation. Great restaurant!
We stopped at Modo Mío by a recommendation from a friend , he never told us that the restaurant is the best of the best.
Our server’s name was Susan, she is the best, ask for her and you will love the service quality. She recommend us the favorite dishes and she was right. Delicious food !
The owner came to our table to see if all is perfect ! His name is Phil , really nice and polite person.
The food quality, taste and presentation were amazing !
Definitely we highly recommend Modo Mío as the best Italian Restaurant in Newport Beach .
Thank you !
I visit the Cyrtal Cove shopping center often for the restaurants, but this was the first time I had been here. I chose it based on location, and ratings. It certainly lived up and surpased its rating. The food and service were excellent and I am looking forward to going back.
The atmosphere was very comfortable especially for conversation. We were seated at a slightly private table that was ideal. My high expectations of the food left me pretty much disappointed. The bolognese sauce, chicken parm and caesar salad were very average. The best part of my meal was the linguine and the risotto with vegetables was very tasty. Overall, our visit was above-average.☺️
My main entree was disappointing. The veal was a bit tough although the salad and tiramisu were excellent. Ambiance is rather lacking, very plain and more for families rather than a date night or fun night out. Service was great. Our waiter was very attentive.
Restaurant Week. Big Mistake for a local....
The restaurant was a nice find. We came here for restaurant week lunch and were delighted with the quality of food and service. The salmon was excellent, cooked to perfection. The pasta was very tasty and the chicken very good. The caprese was very generous and tasty. The Caesar salad was very generous and delicious. The noise level was a bit high as the restaurant was very busy. We had to wait for our reservation and as a "thank you" for waiting, we were given a plate of mainated mushrooms The dessert, chocolate truffle gelato with zablione gelato inside and cocoa hazelnuts on the outside was excellent. We will be back!
Unfortunately, because it was Newport Beach's Restaurant Week, the food was poor at best. The appetizer was soggy and had no flavor. The entree of pounded chicken was cold and also had no flavor. The potatoes were actually hard and inedible, the vegetables were cold and had NO flavor. It appears the menu for Restaurant Week was cooked in advance and was just "re-heated". I realize that the $20 price is not high, but the food is usually Top Notch but unfortunately this time it was just plain bad.
We will come back because we know that their regular menu items are always fresh and delicious.
Ate here a couple of times years ago. Food was good, but portions minute, and menu very limited. Also it was extremely noisy. Wanted to take a friend visiting from Massachusetts out for dinner, and she wanted Italian. In reviewing menus on line, I saw yours. I printed a copy of a few menus from different restaurants for her to select one, and she chose yours. We live in Irvine and had gone to a movie at the Spectrum, so made a 5 PM reservation. We had a nice, reasonably quiet table near the window, with a nice view I didn't recall from previous visits. Service was impeccable. Made slight alterations to our order to accomodate our needs. Husband had Veal Lamone, friend had Eggplant Parm., I had Veal Marsala. We shared 2 appetizers. All were presented attractively and tasted great. Server brought a complimentary plate of extra sliced mushrooms to share. Bread was great, served with a spicy olive oil. I requested and received butter instead. Entrees were large, with enough to take home for lunch. Food reasonably priced, a good deal. Only slight negative is that my veal for veal marsala was a little tough. Husband's veal for veal lamone was tender. Alcohol was a little expensive, but not horrible. Restaurant needs to make money somewhere. We'll definitely be back, and suggest to or take more friends. Good job. Thank you.
The owners have a life time of experience including running Five Crowns in Crorona del Mar for years. They have created a magnificant restaurant with food that is of that same Five Crowns quality (if you been there then you know), but Italian!!
In addition, the owners know wine better than most anyone in the area. The wine list is incredible... for instance, they have many of the best Pinot Noirs in California on the list (and you cant get in a store), which is why i go back.
The menu is creative and fresh with wonderful blends of flavors and a unique dessert selection. Unfortunately, the service was spotty and a bit disorganized. However, my meal was so delicious that I am happy to return to give it another go!
Great choice for Newport Restaurant Week. Great value. We will return.
We lucked out for restaurant week. The food was amazing and the lunch special was unbelievably priced. We were there last year while vacationing at the Marriott. Always delightful.
Our favorite Italian restaurant in OC. Have been there numerous time since Linda and Phil Crowley bought the restaurant
I refer to this as a "local" bistro...although it takes me 30 minutes to get there, but well worth it! The atmosphere, view, service, and delicious Italian food is superb (Butata with Pasta) ! Not to forget no-corkage on M, T, W...makes it even better! Phil, the owner, is a gracious host, and does his best to make sure that everything runs smoothly. That's twice for me this week!
Fabulous food and the quality of service was above board. All the staff pitch in and with such great cuisine, we have found a gem that we were unaware. Thanks to Restaurant Week for introducing us to this tip-top restaurant.
The food is good but the service was disappointing. We had a 7:45 reservation for 4 and did not get seated until after 8:30. This is the 2nd time we've been here with a similar experience. When we inquired about why it was taking so long their response was that tables were taking longer than expected and that it was Newport Beach Restaurant Week, both of which should be taken into account in the reservation system. We were also told we would be the next 4-top to be seated which turned out not to be the case. Only after asking, did they offer a complimentary drink.
