Ashame this restaurant is closing. It was my absolute favorite. But we were told the staff would remain the same for the new restaurant to take it's place.
this restaurant is closing Today- to be replaced by a new venue in several weeks from the same owners
Our experience is irrelevant because Modesto is closing as of tonight, 8/20. The owners will introduce a new concept restaurant in September. So many of us who were frequent Modesto patrons over 15 years will miss it, but we will embrace the new.
I've always had excellent meals here. Their take on Spanish Tapas is very good. Sadly however they are closing and going a different direction. Some sort of take on a pizza place, just what St Louis needs is another pizza joint (place) and of all places on 'The Hill'. Good luck with that!
Excellent as always. Too bad it's going to become yet another pizza place.
Looking forward to the new restaurant- same owners and staff. New food!
My favourite tapas bar in St Louis and I'm gutted that it's closing down tomorrow.
Good Spanish cuisine. Friendly. Had a nice wine list but a bit depleted as they are closing their doors in 2 days.
Enjoyed the food, wine and company. Sorry to hear the change in format, but look forward to see how the restaurant does with the change to a pizza restaurant.
We wanted to have dinner there for our anniversary before it changed formats. Everything was excellent.
It's a shame that Modesto is closing on the 20th of August. I truly believe its vibrant scene and its delicious menu will be missed by all!!!
As always delicious! Very sad they are closing !
My friend and I went before it closes. Hate that it going away and being replaced by PIZZA. I have celebrated many occasions there...falling in love with my wife, book-club with the girls, shoulder for friends in sorrow, just because happy hours and many more. Wish the restaurant good luck in the next journey
Wanted to get in one last time before they close. Thanks, Modesto! Server was very informative on wines, etc--just a bit frazzled; it was busy.
This was the first place I took my wife when we were dating. We are so sad to see this place go. Hope the new pizza place is just as good.
We love Modesto and are sorry it is changing formats.
We loved Modesto! Especially great for groups (you can try more things!). Very sad it's closing.
This place is fantastic!
The variety of food is great. The food was delicious. The service was at times indifferent and not overly friendly.
I had never been to Modesto prior, however, my wife had been once. We went for our 40th anniversary. The restaurant was clean and you could tell the management took pride and care in the surroundings. The food was delightful and much better than I anticipated. Even though we enjoyed the restaurant and our dinner, there were problems that bothered me. We were seated right away and told our waitress would be Elaine. She took our order and brought us our first dish. Then Karen came over and said she was replacing Elaine. Karen was very busy and didn't pay much attention to our table. The 2nd plate of potatoes, came by itself. It took over 15 minutes before the 3rd and 4th dish arrived. 30 minutes after this, our final dish arrived. Even though I had stated in my reservation that it was our 40th Anniversary, no mention of this was every made by management nor our waitress. Also, after dinner, I went to use the men's restaurant and it was dirty and awful. My wife said the Women's restaurant was clean and fine. We will go back to this restaurant, however, management needs to sharpen their attention to details. Overall, the food was delicious and presented a good value. Service was not good and there was no reason for this as the restaurant wasn't that busy.
Food is always fabulous. Love the wine and cocktail list.
We always have great meals at Modesto. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. There is a nice variety of tapas that can be shared and enjoyed!
Perfect place for a group of friends. They have a small sectioned off room for 4-6 people that is great for small groups. The bacon wrapped dates will change your life :) We each ordered two items and shared and kept ordering our favorites until we were full.
Went to Modesto for our 14th anniversary dinner - everything was terrific - happy hour in the bar, great food! Thoroughly enjoyable!
The restaurant has always been a favorite, however the hostess was lacking in customer service.
We love Modesto and dine there at least once a month. There are tapas specials every night and because they are tapas, I.e., smaller quantities than an entre, we tend to order specials with favorites so every meal is unique.
Enjoyed our dinner at Modesto. Recommend the rabbit sausage and shrimp croquettes. Service was fast and solid.
Consistently excellent food, and wonderful servers and hostess that always make you feel like family.
Everything was terrific. My only complaint was the cheese in the dates was overpowering and far too rich.
Modesto Tapas is our "go to" spot. The Chef's are out of this world, the wait staff is VERY attentive. You are greeted as you walk in the door and always made to "feel at home". Love this place !!!
Fantastic food, attentive service.
Our waiter was very professional and accommodating. He always dropped in at just the right time for beverages and to order more plates.
Great appetizers and outside seating :-)
The food is really fantastic and it's far the best Spanish restaurant in St Louis. It's however, not particularly Spanish, in that it's missing many favorites and generally flavors have been a bit adulterated (for Midwestern palates?). Regardless, it's still the best bet in the region.
Always a fun time and excellent food - dishes complement each other. Love it!
We had a great dinner and tried so many delicious plates. It was fun to share everything with friends and family. Andrew was a great server. Can't wait to try it again.
I came here to celebrate my wife's new job. I made a reservation for ten people a week in advance. People that I had invited cancelled and I updated the reservation to 6 people. The restaurant was easy to work with and accommodated the reservation changes without any issues.
Upon arriving we started with cocktails. Everyone was satisfied. Nice selection of local and imported beers, several cocktails, and very nice selection of wines.
We then ordered several tapas to share at the table. Bacon wrapped dates, pork belly, steak, goat cheese and bacon flat bread. Everything was wonderful. There are so many delicious choices.
Dessert was ordered next. Oh my god, the chocolate bread pudding is on a whole other level, so rich and tasty. You have to try it!
Overall, the place was clean, the ambiance was nice, the food was amazing, the service was fantastic. Kudos to Modesto Chef and staff! Very well done and worth your trip.
Definitely save room for the bread pudding! One of the best things I have ever eaten! Been here several times and service was sub par this go around. Always unique specials.
Thoroughly enjoyed. Everything was delicious and service was not overbearing. More of a food style where you go to enjoy the people you are spending time with not just for the food.
I took a client to this restaurant and the idea was good but the food was just so so.
