About Permanently Closed - Modesto
This restaurant is permanently closed. Permanently Closed - Modesto Tapas Bar and Restaurant is St. Louis' first Spanish tapas restaurant. Tapas are a time-honored and cherished part of Spanish cuisine. The tapa (from the verb tapar - to cover) originally was a slice of bread or cured ham placed over the mouth of a wine glass. As the popularity of the custom grew, so did the variety. In Spain, tapas are much more than a culinary delight - they represent a lifestyle - an opportunity to share good times with friends in an unrushed, carefree manner. At Modesto guests are encouraged to do the same.

Modesto - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I've always had excellent meals here. Their take on Spanish Tapas is very good. Sadly however they are closing and going a different direction. Some sort of take on a pizza place, just what St Louis needs is another pizza joint (place) and of all places on 'The Hill'. Good luck with that!
My friend and I went before it closes. Hate that it going away and being replaced by PIZZA. I have celebrated many occasions there...falling in love with my wife, book-club with the girls, shoulder for friends in sorrow, just because happy hours and many more. Wish the restaurant good luck in the next journey
I had never been to Modesto prior, however, my wife had been once. We went for our 40th anniversary. The restaurant was clean and you could tell the management took pride and care in the surroundings. The food was delightful and much better than I anticipated. Even though we enjoyed the restaurant and our dinner, there were problems that bothered me. We were seated right away and told our waitress would be Elaine. She took our order and brought us our first dish. Then Karen came over and said she was replacing Elaine. Karen was very busy and didn't pay much attention to our table. The 2nd plate of potatoes, came by itself. It took over 15 minutes before the 3rd and 4th dish arrived. 30 minutes after this, our final dish arrived. Even though I had stated in my reservation that it was our 40th Anniversary, no mention of this was every made by management nor our waitress. Also, after dinner, I went to use the men's restaurant and it was dirty and awful. My wife said the Women's restaurant was clean and fine. We will go back to this restaurant, however, management needs to sharpen their attention to details. Overall, the food was delicious and presented a good value. Service was not good and there was no reason for this as the restaurant wasn't that busy.
Perfect place for a group of friends. They have a small sectioned off room for 4-6 people that is great for small groups. The bacon wrapped dates will change your life :) We each ordered two items and shared and kept ordering our favorites until we were full.
The food is really fantastic and it's far the best Spanish restaurant in St Louis. It's however, not particularly Spanish, in that it's missing many favorites and generally flavors have been a bit adulterated (for Midwestern palates?). Regardless, it's still the best bet in the region.
I came here to celebrate my wife's new job. I made a reservation for ten people a week in advance. People that I had invited cancelled and I updated the reservation to 6 people. The restaurant was easy to work with and accommodated the reservation changes without any issues.
Upon arriving we started with cocktails. Everyone was satisfied. Nice selection of local and imported beers, several cocktails, and very nice selection of wines.
We then ordered several tapas to share at the table. Bacon wrapped dates, pork belly, steak, goat cheese and bacon flat bread. Everything was wonderful. There are so many delicious choices.
Dessert was ordered next. Oh my god, the chocolate bread pudding is on a whole other level, so rich and tasty. You have to try it!
Overall, the place was clean, the ambiance was nice, the food was amazing, the service was fantastic. Kudos to Modesto Chef and staff! Very well done and worth your trip.
