Dinner: Sunday - Thursday: 5:00pm - 9:00pm, Friday - Saturday: 5:00pm - 9:30pm
Tiny venue, excellent food/wine, excellent service. Food was fresh, salads to die for. We had a dimming issue with light above our table, didn’t bother us, may irate some! Otherwise well worth our first visit and would recommend you try it. Compliments to all staff there!
Hands down the best restaurant in the area. Great food, service is second to none! Everything is awesome, I wanted to lick my fingers afterwards.
One of the best Italian restaurants! My fiancé and I are from out of town and really enjoyed the food! Would highly recommend and will come again! We got the crab cakes, octopus and wild mushroom pasta and everything was delicious!
The food was awesome. Calamari was on point with the spicy marinara and the Duck Confit pizza was very very good. We even got shown the wood oven that was crafted in Italy! Not to mention they are sourcing their ingredients locally, and a lot of them coming from the owner's farm. How cool?! Great experience and we will be back for sure!
Very good vegetarian Italian options. The choices were plentiful, service excellent. I would keep this on the list of go-to restaurants in AVL.
My boyfriend and I went to Modesto for our one year anniversary and had some of the best food we have ever tasted. They had the best crab cakes which is one of their signature food items. I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana and it was fantastic. The flavors and textures were so pleasant. The service and ambiance was also very enjoyable. We highly recommend this restaurant for good food and experiences.
Very finely done Italian cuisine. We like to come late, when the small space is quieter. Nonetheless, a high level of expertise in the kitchen. Strongly recommend.
Wonderful food and waitress was okay, but the waiter that took over was terrific
Modesto is always wonderful. We go there got many family celebrations a year. The food is always excellent and fairly priced. Only wish it was a larger space!
Table for two and we each had an entree and starter. Some good dishes but some significant misses...I’d say one great, one bad, two nothing to write home or complain about. Service left something to be desired, but luckily a coworker picked up the slack at just the right time to keep things from going from bad to ugly.
One of the best restaurants in Asheville. The food is outstanding, the ambiance is nice, and the service was great.
Exceptional server. We thought he might be the owner, but no, just very good and especially detail oriented. Food was also very good. We had red snapper and whole flounder. Both very good. Cocktails well done, too!
Fantastic experience and meal with Ted as our server! We will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves quality meals with a true reflection of a chefs love for cooking!
Modesto is a go to for reliable, good cuisine. We are always amazed by the ambitious menu and yet, the dishes all seem to be exceptionally good. The halibut was very fresh and the roasted veggies were delicious. My beet and goat cheese salad and the grilled octopus were equally delicious. We talk about going other places but always know we will be happy here.
The bartender was great....otherwise, this was a very unpleasant experience and the food was no impressive. Our server was just awful.
FOOD AND SERVICE WAS GOOD, EXTREMELY SMALL TABLES, NOISY, SPACE WAS AT A PREMIUM, GREAT DOWN-TOWN LOCATION, OUTDOOR SEATING SHOULD BE GREAT WEATHER PERMITTING, NOT ACKNOWLEDGED AS AN OPENTABLE RESERVATION.
Fantastic dining experience. The food and service -exceptional. We will definitely return.
Food was delicious and staff was kind and quick. Unfortunately the tiny space and being seated next to a large party made for a very loud evening. My fiancé and I went for a nice date night and it wasn’t bad but not much ambiance when you’re shouting at each other. The tables were so close together we regularly had someone’s butt on our table and far too close to our food.
Lamb ravioli, soups, grilled octopus outstanding starters. Veal chop and/or pork chop best in town.
Great food, wine and service. Thoughtful & helpful wait staff. Modesto has long been a favorite of ours!
Outstanding service. Excellent martinis. Crunchy spinach served with calamari...mmm good!
Food was great , I never finish my food and I’m very picky about Italian but everything was just right in my plate and finished it as well , Lots of variety of spices and vegs, service was great as well. We sat in a small two people table which the door next door was right beside of and it made some noise but other than that we Will be coming back again
The best we can say was our server was attentive. We ordered veal, but we have had many veal dishes in our lifetime, and this tasted just like pork, plus we needed a knife to cut it; not at all tender. Our table was right by the door, and they have no anteroom, so every time someone opened the door, the cold hit my husband. The spinach and beet salad consisted of about a cup of old spinach that had not been chilled with perhaps a quarter of a cup of thinly shaved beets. No, will never return and will not recommend. I'm sorry for this bad review. Perhaps an off night?
We had a fantastic meal. They have the best pesto I've ever eaten! We fully intend to go back
Wow! This place is definitely an overlooked gem. The food quality and flavor were outstanding. If you want excellent food and service and don’t mind spending a little extra for high quality then this is the place for you. I would definitely eat here again. It’s my new best restaurant in Asheville. Try it. You won’t be disappointed.
Exceptional! We hand picked this restaurant not knowing the area and it was unbelievably good! Fresh ingredients daily and a talented chef make a difference. Highly recommended!
This is our "go to" restaurant when family and friends come to visit. Something for everyone and always delicious. Love, love, love the woodfired octopus and could make a meal of it. Beet salad also got several thumbs up. A seasonal wild mushroom pasta was heavy on Shitake and marvelous. I always have the Scallops and one day I'll try something else but they are so so good I can't stop. Other dishes raved about were the Lobster Ravioli and Risotto Milanese and they must have been good because I didn't get a taste. Nobody had room for dessert so we took a piece of Tiramisu home and again, delicious!
Extremely impressed with the food quality. This is the first Italian restaurant in Asheville that I have been really amazed by.
Amazing food, as always. Good ambiance and fresh ingredients.
Excellent delmonico ribeye. Very good pan seared scallops
Fabulous wine list
I have dined at Modesto a number of times and enjoyed it immensely. so when my Sister in Law's cousin came to town we chose Modesto for our family Lunch.
I have to say, this time, I was a bit disappointed.
I ordered the Veal Piccata. While the risooto was wonderful, the veal, while flavorfull was a bit chewy. I imagine a higher grade of veal ( from the calf) would have been a more tender choice.
The Sister in Law ordered the Pizza Margherita. Because fresh tomatoes were used, it rendered the bottom crust totally soggy.
Her Cousin's meal, the Modesto Meatballs, were ok..with the meatballs being a bit hard..not tender as he's used to. Another dish, the shrimp scampi was wonderful!
For dessert I ordered a new item on the dessert menu.. Baba au Rhum...a dessert often purchased at Italian Bakeries in the NY area. What was presented was not what it was supposed to be. It was a dry doughnut like cake. Baba's are a sponge cake literally soaked in a rum syrup until they are actually soggy with syrup. I mentioned to our waitress that it seemed a bit dry and she took it back and returned a short time later with it and said they fixed it. It was still a dry doughnut. Perhaps the pastry chef needs to brush up on this pastry before attempting it again.
I would still return as I have always enjoyed other dishes. Perhaps yesterday was just a bad day.
I can’t wait to go back! Every dish was delicious. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. We had a wonderful evening dining at Modesto.
Lovely food and excellent service! The meal and wine were both exceptional...a lovely evening.
Modesto Trattoria is a great little restaurant. Centrally located with indoor and outdoor tables and a very nice ambience. We started with cocktails - negronis - and they were excellent - served with one big cube to avoid over dilution as the ice melted. They served a very good caesar salad appetizer- although it was HUGE and we could have shared one salad. I had the fabulous grilled mackerel entree, followed by a truly wonderful apple crumble topped with cardamom ice cream. Everything was freshly prepared, very fresh ingredients, and nicely presented. Portions are large, so consider sharing. Our server was great - helped us select from the menu and was able and eager to explain every dish. It's a small space, so tables are close and it's not optimal for private conversations, but the atmosphere is jovial and friendly.
The food was phenomenal. They have a wood fired grill and they know how to use it. We had the wood fired octopus for an appetizer which was excellent. Our entrees were equally impressive.
This was our second visit to Asheville and Modesto was at the top of our list to return to. It was as wonderful as we remembered. The menu is so creative, locally sourced, and the food delicious. Victoria waited on us and she was wonderful beyond words. Highly recommend this restaurant for casual or special occasion dining.
Still a favorite, but was disappointed by inattentive service. Will go again, hoping this time was just an off-night.
Myself and 5 of my friends were in town and made reservations here for dinner. Unfortunately, half of our group hated their meals which was super disappointing. Two of the dishes were cold, and one complained that their's was flavorless--considering the prices that should not have been the case. It also felt like the server didn't care to wait on us since we had a party of 6 (meaning a 20% gratuity would automatically be added to our bills).
Good food. Fabulous grilled octopus. Fun server. We will go back the next time we visit Asheville.
Karen says "the BEST pizza she's ever had" and Drew agrees!
