Italian
Led by chef and owner Hector Diaz, Modesto features a farm to table approach to upscale wood-fired Italian. The menu changes twice daily and includes a variety of fresh seafood, fine meats, and house made pastas. Pizzas are hand-tossed and cooked in a wood fired oven made in Italy. To compliment your meal, our bar offers over 30 exclusively Italian wines as well as a dynamic list of classic and cutting edge cocktails. Desserts are made from scratch, including our famous tiramisu, and we proudly serve 1000 Faces Coffee.

Not your traditional Italian restaurant, small, modern, great non traditional hard to find menu. High quality ingredients. Prosciutto and chorizo Stromboli, Fig and prosciutto Pizza are exceptional and a must to have !
We are foodies and not easy to impress, we think this restaurant one of the best in NC ( we are from Seattle- a Culinary Heaven )

We were meeting our son’s girlfriend for the first time and this was a good pick. There were lots of vegetarian choices and the service was perfect. We will go again.

We rediscovered Modesto this year after putting the restaurant on a 2-year hiatus. It is even better than we remember 2 years ago. The food is local, fresh and delicious. The presentation is outstanding. Tom welcomes you as if he has known you forever - and he remembers your name. We had the best and most attentive waitress in all of Asheville - Rachael. The menu offers a wide variety of pasta, seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. We will go back often.

The food was great as always. Ashevillians need to make this a regular. The service was superb, we like to dine slowly over many courses. we ordered everything at once, and each plate came at a leisurely and appetizing pace. Thx.

Food quality is poor. Vegetables are not fresh tasting, tasted like they were all cooked together. My fish was soggy (sea bass). Kids ordered margarita pizza - there was zero tomato sauce. That’s something they should either state, list or inform. I think they would claim “it comes with tomato sauce” - it doesn’t. Also, it was very loud. A shame, has a nice vibe, and menu is diverse. Wish it was a “go to” in asheville but it won’t be.

Always enjoy dining al fresco at Modesto. Their menu changes based on vegetables that are in season. Their wood fired romaine salad is one I get every time. They will bring extra plates for sharing meals.

We have eaten at Modesto a couple times since moving to Asheville. This past experience was not that good. One of the things I'm not thrilled about is the lack of variety with the fish sides. Every single fish dish had risotto as the side. We asked to please have the housemade pasta as a side instead and it was sticky and stuck together. The fish was cooked to perfection, but the chef lacks imagination with the sides. Even grilled veggies would have been better. We'll wait awhile before we go back.

Every time I go to Modestos I find dishes that are unique and wonderful. The drinks and wine also exceeds most restaurants in Asheville. Go there for a casual dinner or date night evening.

I can’t say enough about the welcoming service and the excellent meal. Rachel was extremely professional - checking in at all the right times. I had the chicken carbonara. It was light and flavorful. My husband had sea bass. Fresh and amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

We ate dinner there with our son’s family which included an 8 month old. They were very sensitive to her needs. We started with a delicious goat cheese appetizer and the Americana pizza. We had the chicken piccata, tuna, snapper, and pork chop. Everything was delicious. You should definitely visit this restaurant while you are in Asheville!

Modesto was my favorite Asheville restaurant until this summer. The shrimp was over cooked and the pasta was undercooked. The filet and fish were also over cooked. Three times we were disappointed with the food. Now we have given up. There are too many fine restaurants in Asheville.

Friendly and courteous greeting at door. Waiter was very helpful, we have some allergies and dietary needs. Fried green tomatoes and roasted artichoke were so unbelievably good. Was disappointed that they serve halibut steak rather than the fillet. It was a little dry. Swordfish and oyster dish was excellent. Portions are huge. We would return and recommend to friends

Our group of 6 had a great lunch here, sharing bites of several different dishes. Calzones are huge, crab cakes delectable, calamari tough, salads large and fresh. Caprese was good but too much proscuitto . Our waitress was super. Highly recommend!

The food and service was excellent. The fried octopus, pork belly and mushroom pasta were excellent.
Our waiter, Tim, was attentive and knowledgeable.

The problem with Modesto was that I had called in advance asking about alcohol free wine because one in our party has medical reasons for drinking alcohol free wine. We were told that they did not have any. When I said that we would bring a bottle of alcohol free, we were told that they would charge us $20.00 corkage, even though they could not satify our needs.

I have recently been to over a dozen restaurants in the downtown Asheville area and ALL BUT MODESTO made allowances for us.
