Fantastic food . Rachel provided over the top friendly and knowledgeable service. Don't miss if in town.
Average dinner. Overpriced for selection and quality. Wines were way overpriced.
The food was outstanding. Both the Red Snapper and Halibut came with a wonderful variety of vegetables. The Octopus was tender and the chicken Carbornara was very tasty. Tim our waiter was friendly and attentive and made our meal even more enjoyable.
Food was innovative and very well prepared. Had a great server. Sat outdoors where they even made dogs welcome.
The food and service was excellent. The fried octopus, pork belly and mushroom pasta were excellent.
Our waiter, Tim, was attentive and knowledgeable.
The problem with Modesto was that I had called in advance asking about alcohol free wine because one in our party has medical reasons for drinking alcohol free wine. We were told that they did not have any. When I said that we would bring a bottle of alcohol free, we were told that they would charge us $20.00 corkage, even though they could not satify our needs.
I have recently been to over a dozen restaurants in the downtown Asheville area and ALL BUT MODESTO made allowances for us.
very good food, all dishes were served hot and presented very well on the plate. portion size was very good for all dishes Chicken Parm and pasta side was excellent!
I spoke at length with a really nice young woman before we traveled to Asheville telling her it was our 50th anniv., and all about our parties' dietary requirements. She was very helpful. Upon arrival, we were seated after a short wait, ordered cocktails, and afterwards he waiter seemed very distracted. My husband ordered monkfish and scallops, and said the fish was not very good and he was served ONE scallop; my son, who ordered scallops was served three! I was not pleased with my trout; however, the other 2 diners said their food was very good... perhaps, we did not choose well.
waiter emphasized the quality of the rib eye which I opted for. Sadly was very unevenly cooked, a bit on the thin side and not top grade; was returned for a tasty dish of mushroom risotto.
My wife's monkfish/scallop dish was very satisfactory. Bottom line; skip the steak.
WORST WAITER EVER! While food was prepared fairly well, except for the awful spaghetti and poor excuse for meatballs, our waiter treated us as though we were wasting his time. Bread for the table not delivered for 40 minutes, and just 4 pieces for 3 grown men and a woman. We watched our water gases filled from the tap - GROSS. Dinner arrived 35 minutes later. We were starving. Ordered dessert and coffee. Dessert arrived 15 mins later - never got the coffee. Waiter said ‘sorry, but coffee takes awhile and we’re just busy’ — we’ll, if you can’t handle your customers you shouldn’t hand them a bill for $225.00!!! Sorry, awful place with terrible service. We have dined the best of the best. Will NEVER return.
Food was amazing, served was prompt and wine was tasty.
Modesto visit was on the night before the 4th of July holiday and they were unprepared for the large number of guest on a beautiful evening. While we were seated immediately with our reservation, the wait for food and the error on the salads was a miss for them. All 4 entrees we super and the wine was divine! The server was a star even though he was overloaded as it was clearly not his fault.
Love Modesto's. Great food and service everytime we dine there!!
The Food and the Service was fantastic! We all had seafood that was wonderful.
Birthday celebration at one of our go to places. We go there when we go to the symphony or when we go out in general or for special occasions. The food is dependably good and we particularly like the fresh seafood with interesting sides. This time they were out of Pinot Grigio and the waiter gave us a great recommendation for an Italian wine we had not experienced before so of course we took 2 bottles. We all like a drier wine and this one which he described as "bright" and good for summer hit the spot. He gave us a tasting prior to deciding which was much appreciated since it was new to us.
Modesto Trattoria was one of several restaurants recommended by the staff of Cambria Hotel, which is located directly across the street. So glad it was raining and we chose to stay close. The varied selections on the menu were incredible and we all chose different items. Every bite of every dish was superb - from pizza to pasta to fish to dessert. Ted, our server, was very personable with a fun sense of humor and made us feel very welcome. We truly appreciated the pace of service, which allowed time for enjoying each course along with ample conversation. It was a very pleasant experience for all and even before leaving we discussed our return!
The food was outstanding: best stuffed grape leaves and the pork chop was moist, tender and soooo tasty although a bit too uncooked; vegetable lasagna excellent as always. HOWEVER, we sat in the small alcove to the left of the front door and the music blaring from the wall speaker was so loud that we could barely converse. We asked our waitress 3 times and another twice to lower it but it never happened or, if it did, so minimal we couldn't tell. It totally marred an otherwise lovely diner and we'll be sure never to sit in that cute area again.
In a word, FABULOUS! Do not miss the calamari and the caprese.
Fresh, original takes on familiar dishes, with attentive service reflecting Asheville's very special atmosphere. Well worth a visit... or multiple visits.
Our waitress was very friendly. Great with our sons.
Food delicious, but I felt portions were small - esp for the $. I had clams & linguine. Cost of adding more pasta wld have been minimal & I'd have felt more satisfied.
Terrible service with hardly any patrons. Food was good.
Our waitress Victoria was great. She was knowledgeable and helpful. Food was excellent, especially the grilled artichoke.
Friends celebrating birthdays together. Tim provided excellent service and food was superb. Will definitely return to Modesto Trattoria.
A very nice choice. We both enjoyed our meals very much. We would choose this venue again.
Modesto never disappoints. We all licked our plates clean!
Loved it- artichoke and octopus rocked! Fig pizza not to our taste- but overall a great place. Def going back. Best pesto of my life!
Everything we ordered was amazing! The whole snapper was impressive! The pizza crust was PERFECT.
Awesome Italian food! Great wine selections. Amazing server
We were seated for an early dinner and given the option of indoors or out. We chose in as it was a warmish evening with a chance of rain. The maitre d' was extremely friendly and we felt very welcomed immediately. The waitress was very attentive and patient, but the star of the evening was the food. We ordered a variety of dishes from lobster ravioli to veal picatta and everyone was not only pleased, but actually surprised by the quality of their food. I will definitely go back the next time I am in Asheville.
We are Asheville locals and Modesto is consistently good, creative cuisine, attentive service and a "must go to" restaurant for locals and visitors.
Food is excellent but pricy, given its mass-appeal ambiance
After my 10+ rating the first time i dined here, I was disappointed this time. This was lunch not dinner as before. A large group arrived shortly after we were seated and service was slower than anticipated. My soft shell crab was burned, and the greens were tough on the shrimp Caesar.
My friend had the fish n chips which she enjoyed. Will try this place again but with so many excellent places in Asheville to eat it may be a challenge.
Excellent in every way. We started with Caesar salads and from now on I’m adding pistachios instead of croutons. My lamb chops were tender and delicious, the lobster ravioli with scallops, creamy pillows that melt in your mouth. The best ever bite of tiramisu with a crunch of chocolate mocha. Our server took care of each detail from serving our wine to bringing change with perfect timing.
Glad we reserved! The food was great as usual, for appetizers we shared calamari, roasted romaine (which was a hit with a sprinkling of preserved lemon adding a real zing), and wood fired octopus that I could've eaten two of. Next there were Mussels in a spicy tomato sauce which were very good, soft shell crab which were light and delicious, seafood carbonara which our friend rated a 4 out of 5 and a seafood risotto with lobster which was tasty but definitely came in last out of the four mains and was rated a 3 out of 5. Ended the night with all of us sharing a Tiramisu which was wonderful and plenty to share. Great evening all around.
As far as the food goes at Modesto, it was wonderful. However, our waiter was not very friendly. I also put on the reservation that it was a birthday, and nothing was offered or done. That was a bit disappointing. I probably would come back for the food, but as far as service, we were disappointed. We were only checked on a few times and the waiter did not seem to have time to go over the wine list with us.
Excellent seafood dishes.
We started with Octopus and mussels and moved on to flounder and scallops.
All were excellent a near perfect dinner.
Very good, variety of menu options, servers were great. Decent wine selection, and food was wonderful!
Frittata was fabulous!
Fabulous food. My wife, who is Italian, said the Bolonaise Riggatoni, was the best she ever had.
The food was not good.....to many ingredients that did NOT meld well together. Poorly presented, I do not like looking at my plate and not knowing what it is and.... where did this sweet potato cube come from? Tragic really!
