Excellent service and one of the best meals we've ever had.
Fantastic pata dishes? We ate here once before about a year ago and had great entrees. This time we had three different pasta dishes and all were excellent. Service was excellent and Rachel was very well informed and pleasant. Will definitely be back to sample the other pastas.
This is a small restaurant with a very big menu. Apparently the thinking in the kitchen is to have something appealing for one and all, and it doesn't work! Cut back on all and then work on making what is left much better.
Wait staff very friendly and efficient .. food choices innovative and delicious... would recommend!
We love Modesto! Food is always good and we are always amazed at the number of choices. The quality, no matter the selection, never disappoints. Beet salad and grilled octopus for me. Seafood puttanesca for my friend. Delicious gavi wine!
Fine Italian food, carefully prepared and served with a smile. Very fine restaurant.
Food was good. The wait staff forgot to put in our appetizer order, and I had to get the manager to find out where it was. It never came. Very disappointing. Avoid Modesto during busier times until they shape up their service.
A unique menu featuring local and North Carolina vegetables, meats and fish. Our server Rachel was so knowledgeable. She skillfully guided use through the myriad of choices providing insight and recommendations. She was equally knowledgeable about the wine list, mostly Italian, and we were not disappointed. We sat outside and that would be my choice again. Tom the maitre de was delightful and welcoming. We will return when next in Asheville!
Returning this year after last year's 5 star review. No 5 stars this year.
Ordered Filet Mignon medium well.
Was delivered medium rare to actual cold rare uncooked steak.
Service was not the same as last year, much slower and less experience.
I showed our waitress my rare uncooked meat and no offer to make it better.
Over priced, under performed not returning.
One of the best restaurants in Asheville, and better than many high end places. The food is always interesting and delicious, lunch or dinner, and the service first rate. Have been there many times and will certainly return.
The server was not kind or attentive. The wait time was unreasonable. I had to check in multiple times for items requested.
The food and ambience was exceptional.
Wonderful waiter.. awesome Food
We dined at Modesto June 28,2019 before a concert. Sat on the patio which was very nice. Our server maybe named Rebecca( can’t be sure of that at all tho) was very attentive without being overbearing and very knowledgeable about the menu. I had a caprese salad which was good. I ordered Veal Marsala which was so tough and dry it was inedible and no Marsala sauce that I saw or tasted. My side dishes were good and after two bites of veal this is what I ate. I don’t normally complain at restaurants or leave negative reviews.. however I did tell our server the Veal was inedible and showed her how dry the Veal was and she could also tell from my plate that I had not consumed it. She said I will make the chef aware. That was the end of it.. No apologies from the manager etc etc.. I was not trying to get my meal comped and even told my husband this before I complained. Just wanted them to be aware.. I told the server this. Don’t feel like this situation was handled well at all and was really not addressed at all. We love dining in Asheville but unfortunately we will not be dining here again. Now having said this.... some may have a completely different experience and wonderful meal.. my main issue was the meal being bad and no one taking ownership.
Ambitious menu that sometimes delivers.
Very nice. Good quality fresh food. Wonderful menu. Wished I had tried years ago. Great find in Asheville.
Excellent, superb -- Rachal was our server, VERY professional, pleasant and friendly. We had Bison & portions were quite 'healthy'. We got to meet owner/chef Hector Diaz, who was also extremely hospitable, Will definitely return. Jose Munoz (just moved to Asheville and WILL return)
I have never had a bad dinner here. Sat outside and it was a great evening!!!
So glad I selected this restaurant as it was a great treat. The food was amazing and the restaurant ambiance was excellent. The service was great. Nothing, not to like at this restaurant.
The truffle fries were absolutely amazing! We enjoyed our late lunch and even got a pizza to go for dinner that night. Highly recommended!
We've dined here for years, both for special occasions and not. With one small exception (an exceptionally busy lunchtime), the food and service have been exceptional, Fresh foods, creatively prepared, with a pleasant staff and 'trying hard to please' attitude. Any quibbles are very minor: Space is a bit cramped indoors; you make new friends whether you intend to or not. Wine list is good but not exceptional. Book ahead, and watch closely if over-crowded for signs of an over-taxed staff and kitchen. But definitely go!
Very rarely have lunch here; almost always dinner. Grilled octopus (a favorite) did not have the usual reduction over it and was too dry and tasteless without it. Puttanesca was tasty but only 1 scallop and the mussels were almost "webs" and not meaty at all. All the fresh fish orders were wonderful and the pistachio torte with ice cream outstanding as usual.
I love this place! Some of the best seafood I’ve had in the state. The server was very thorough on ingredients to help me through food intolerances. Absolutely recommend this place. This was my second visit and both dishes were amazing!
Our first impression was positive, the host at the stand was friendly, gave us a menu to take, advised us to make reservations, etc. We did make a reservation for the next night. Our waitress was excellent, also friendly, professional, non intrusive. I ordered the artichoke appetizer and it was soooo delicious. Our companions each ordered a pizza....those were amazing, and rivaled what I’ve had in Italy. My main was the eggplant parm.....again, excellent. My husband ordered the veal parm and although it was very good, he found the breading to be too thick and over cooked...it was nearly burnt. I have recommended Modesto to people already, and I would return next time we are in Asheville.
For the price, the food quality was poor. Calamari was skimpy but tried to pass it off as plentiful with lemon and oranges battered and fried? Pasta under cooked in the bolognese. Sauce was bland. Wife's meal was under cooked as well. My water glass was dirty. We're local and I work downtown. Not tourists.
Great food and service!
Delicious Italian with a variety of dishes. The seafood was well seasoned and tender. The pasta was al dente and rich. Would definitely recommend.
I would definitely recommend Modesto. I didn't order the pizza this time I around (the pizzas are great!), but I had the broiled lobster which was good. Everyone else ordered different items and all were more than happy with their meals.
Best pizza and baked artichoke in town. Food was delicious.
Excellent restaurant among the best in North Carolina
This is one of my favorite places to have dinner in Asheville on a warm summer evening. Great food and nice wine list and eating outside makes it a really fun evening with friends.
Love this this restaurant. Food is consistently great and so is the service.
Have not eaten here in several years. Will return soon.
I ordered a glass of wine when asked for our drinks orders. I was the only one out of my party that ordered wine. Halfway through dinner, I had still not received my drink so I told the waitress I no longer wanted it. She insisted I could have a half of a glass. I agreed, assuming it was complimentary for her mistake. When the bill arrived, I not only got charged for the wine but 3/4 the price. We were offered a free dessert because we were celebrating a special occasion. We asked if we could use that free dessert towards the price of wine because we were so full. She asked and the manager said no. It was terrible customer service. It's not about the money, just principle and how the situation was handled.
They have two creapy old men to seat you. They turned me off to start with. The waiter was very good. He was a tall man and did a really good job. I gave him cash tip so he didn’t have to split it with the creepy guys. The pizza was ok, but nothing special. But the mushroom pasta was excellent. I would not go back unless everything else was closed.
Outstanding, Superb, Must, if in Asheville. Food was creative, flavorful, with generous portions. Our waitress, Victoria, was GREAT! Menu changes based on fresh available ingredients.
Loved the vibe and food was fabulous!
Great overall experience Will come again next time in Asheville
I went early before the Asheville symphony concert and Service was a priority. Modesto did not disappoint with smooth efficiency. The veal was deliciously prepared and would recommend. Overall it was a most enjoyable evening
VERY busy evening. Seating inside and outside. "Royal" greeting @ door and pleasantries
continued during meal from staff. Orders taken as requested. Succulent mussels! Great roasted veggies. What more could one wish for when dining out? Made it a great dinner
