The cheeseburger was excellent — warm soft bun and juicy patty. The happy hour deals were great and included items not on the usual dinner menu. However, the service at both the bar and the table were quite slow. I waited for seemed like an eternity for the deviled eggs happy hour appetizer. When my friends and I got to our table, an appetizer plate sat uncollected until we asked a passing server to take it. Overall, good value and good food, but the service could be more attentive.
Great service and great drinks! Highly recommend! The fried Brussel sprouts are the best.
The and gentleman who greeted us at the door and the entire wait staff could not have been nicer. Well crafted cocktails and nice casual environment with open architecture. Excellent salmon from a known local source and some of the best Brussel sprouts I've had. Will be back again.
Upstairs dining area a little stuffy and warm; duck mousse was a on the salty side and shrimp/avocado salad just okay; service also average
A great new addition to the Downtown Oakland restaurant scene. Relocated to a more convenient spot for business lunches or after work cocktails!
A welcome return at a new location.
Great dinner with fantastic service!
Very noisy when filled. Food good and portions large but overpriced. Service failed to warn that servings were large and should be shared.
The food here is usually exceptional, but this most recent visit everything was off. Very disappointing!
Great business lunch spot, convenient to BART. Had a terrific meal.
This was our first time eating at Mockingbird and loved it. The hosts were warm and friendly, the restaurant has a cool vibe and the food was delicious. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood.
The food is excellent. I've reserved this restaurant a few times now. Each time was with a different group of people from out of town and the feedback was awesome. Everyone enjoyed the food a lot. I will definitely make more reservation when I have guest needs dining.
The place is gorgeous and the ambiance won me over as soon as we walked in. The service was great, everyone e was attentive. Before our food even arrived, you could smell every other dish being brought out to neighboring tables; everything smelled absolutely delicious. The partions are bigger than I expected; I wanted to finish the plate because it was so good but there was too much on the plate for me to finish. The dessert menu had vegan friendly options (I’m not vegan, but the desserts we happened to pick were the vegan friendly options) and they were amazing! Can’t wait to go back!
WOW! Just WOW!
This place is the perfect spot for a date night or even a quick lunch if you are in Oakland. The atmosphere is excellent and very chill, the service is fast, and the food is terrific. I would recommend the Brussel Sprouts as a starter. Just packed with flavor and perfectly made. Also, the bread if you are a little hungrier. The Bay Shrimp Stuffed Avocado Salad is perfect for a light lunch and goes well with the Brussels sprouts. For vegetarians, the Winter Vegetable Tagine is great and comes with an amazing sauce. Would highly recommend this to anyone in Oakland!
Great food and drinks, nicely sized portions, knowledgeable and kind servers. Also helpful with food allergies. Highly recommend.
Lovely dining spot in the heart of downtown Oakland. Upscale Oaklandish. Amazing house-smoked trout salad. Would definitely go back and absolutely recommend.
Great, attentive service. Good vibe. Fresh food done with flair but not overdone to take away from natural flavors in foods. Love the Brussels sprouts and salads. We'll be back!
The bread pudding is a must! Service is always great and the food is delicious
The restaurant was a nicely designed space. Large volume, good general ambiance, however, I didn't care for the extra bright tv monitor or bright white glowing light from the kitchen. I ordered the Hummingbird drink but had to send it back because I couldn't taste the Ancho Chile. I had them bump up the notch on the spiciness. I thought they should have remade the drink entirely but instead they just added more chile drops. By the time the drink came back to me it had warmed up and was no longer chilled. Not a great start.
We ordered the fried brussel sprouts and hanger steak (med. rare) to share between my husband and I. The fried brussel sprouts was pretty good. The steak however came out on the more rare side. Luckily the waiter thought it was too rare as well and so we sent it back. The fries were quite good and when the steak came back out with the meat more cooked, they refilled the fries pile which I thought was a nice gesture. I tried the steak but was disappointed that it lacked flavor. I asked the waiter for salt. The waiter had forgotten (it was a busy night). I had to ask for the salt again. By this time, 10-15 minutes had passed and my steak was already cold. I added salt but it still didn't taste good. The steak really needed to be pre-seasoned. I did notice that the salad that came with it was over salted. Maybe I was suppose to eat them together. Not sure, but an over salted salad is something I don't prefer. We finished our meal and ordered the bread pudding. I was hoping they would redeem themselves with the dessert menu. I thought the bread pudding was a bit on the burnt side. Parts of the bread crust was over burnt and thus left a burnt taste in your mouth. My husband didn't mind it so much, but I didn't care for it. By the end of our meal, I had given up on giving the food a good rating. I liked the ambiance and friendly staff, but was disappointed in the food (the fries was the exception. they have good fries).
We went before a concert. Food was good and restaurant had a cool hip vibe.
The service was very kind and cheerful. The food choices were great, and our choices very good. Other dishes served around us looked and smelled great. The restaurant is pretty - clean lines, wood, good angles. There was a private party up on the second level - that looked like a great place for a small event.
The one thing I didn't care for was the large TV over the bar - pretty distracting for the tables near there.
Welcome addition to Oakland downtown scene. Food is creative and interesting with short but varied menu. Wines exquisite but small selection. Desert was excellent too and the price for the quality was spot on. Great for pre Warriors game dinner too as just by BART 12th Street station.
Overall I liked Mocking Bird and I would go back. But I would caution that the noise level is high and there is NO Parking for blocks. I drove around for 20 min. The garages are all full or gone and blocks in all directions of construction. It's close enough to the theaters and walk-able.
Really nice addition to the Oakland dining scene. Really good food, nice ambiance with the right amount of energy, and friendly service. Good menu, though unfortunately they were out of multiple items we wanted. Still, we’ll be back.
Good food, friendly staff. I highly recommend this Restaurant.
Great food and service
Just ok, service was ok.. felt a bit rushed cause they had to go.
Brussel sprouts and french fries were quite good. My salmon was very good as well. My husband wasn't thrilled with his pork dish. Overall the food was good enough that I would recommend.
My only real complaint was they give you these TINY little water glasses not much bigger than a shot glass, luckily leaving you with a bigger bottle that you can pour more (over and over again). I ended up repurposing my cocktail glass so that I could have more than two sips without refilling. The service seemed a little spotty as well.
We are new to the area and happened to make a last minute reservation at this restaurant. What a great find! The food was amazing for all 5 of us. My pork dinner was fantastic! We all agreed that we would be eating here regularly.
The brussels sprouts were out standing. They alone are worth the trip. However, the kale salad was very disappointing.
if you hate excellent service and a perfectly cooked steak in as welcoming of an environment as you could imagine, you shouldn’t come here. it doesn’t get any better than this place, in Oakland or the bay area in general. they never disappoint.
Fantastic food! They defiantly opened by eyes to Brussel spouts and blue cheese!
Came here before a warriors game for a quick bite and it fit the bill. Full bar, good wine and delicious food. It’s on the pricier side but the portions are ample and the food is very good. Worth it.
I’ve been to Mockingbird three times, twice for dinner and once for happy hour. The happy hour bites are tasty which is why I’m surprised that all four of the entrees we’ve tried weren’t that great. The drinks are good but the bar is always backed up or short staff. Desserts are interesting and delicious, especially the bread pudding, but both times my coffee was served cold. I want to love this place but the food and overall experience will have to improve.
great restaurant, try it! New easy access location near City Center.
This is a really nice go-to spot in downtown Oakland. Attractive, energetic room and a menu that offers a good range of imaginative, locally-sourced dishes (including vegetarian options in starters and main courses). Really good burger too!
And all this at a righteous price. Mockingbird is a find!
I had Trout which was not good at all. They don't offer bread at all. You would have purchase it. The Bread Pudding was too salty for the Carmel Sauce. It was our 41st Wedding anniversary. The Short Ribs was good per my husband . I will not recommend going there for dinner.
I enjoyed their vegetable tagine, fries, the toasted Brussel sprouts, and the broccolini, Excellent! Great drink selection menu, delicious cocktails. Enjoyed a sip of choice mezcal for dessert! After visiting twice, I would appreciate more vegan options. The Tagine is only entree for vegans. And a vegan dessert would be a great addition!
I love Mockingbird’s menu, friendly service and the ambience ... my favorite go-to lunch, cocktails and dinner spot in downtown Oakland.
The appetizers were good, the entrees were good and okay, but the drinks were terrible. My date’s was flavorless (tough and dirty martini) while mine (the admiral) was overwhelmed with fernet, tasting like cough syrup. I wasn’t charged for it, but with the bar being out of the only other cocktail I was interested in, I settled for a $16 glass of wine that had maybe 4oz of wine in it when it arrived.
For the price, this was a very underwhelming experience. My steak was good, but not enough to merit the price for the portion given. Not a $150 experience.
Great happy hour specials... wine, beer and cocktail selections. Awesome options for dinner, food is great and presentation is done well. So nice to have a spot like this in downtown Oakland !
