It was one of the most horribly overpriced meal I’ve ever had!! $45 for two eggs (Benedict) & coffee!! though the restaurant was virtually empty, we were sited behind the hostess stand, next to the door, as if unwanted?!!! WHY??? Was busy catching up with a friend but left feeling “taken”!! Worst experience using OpenTable!!
Menu was promising. Food took a long time to arrive, and all of the two egg dishes only had one egg. Ambience is solid and staff were engaging when we got to talk with them. They seemed busier than they expected, so issues were mostly about that.
It’s Very chic restaurant and busy after work people-
My friend & I thought foods are very good and
Service was pretty good too.
The restroom door had a problem to lock.
Definitely needs to fix that !!!!
The atmosphere, service, menu options and food were all extreamly good. This was my third time for lunch and I have never-ever been disappointed. My aim is to now test their evening food and drink selections.
Great food and service, wish the tables were just a little too close!
It was great! Good food and food wine.
Nice spot for Vday! Brussel sprouts are outstanding! Also quiet here for brunch. Very delicious!
As usual I had a lovely lunch. The food is great and this is my favorite downtown Oakland restaurant.
Great California comfort food. Super tasty, great portions and excellent price point!
Super cute inside! Salad lacked flavor and server forgot about our drinks until we were basically done with our meal. Hard to hear each other with the noise level inside the restaurant.
Very slow - 6pm reservation and not served until a little after 7. Had a 7:30 show and had to sprint through the meal...
They were out of the dish I wanted to order but other than that it was a great experience. We had a new waiter on his first night and he was a pro! Did not realize he was new until we paid the bill and he thanked us for a great first night. Will definitely be back.
I cannot tell you how pleased we were with the service, which was EXCELLENT. We loved your staff and would return just for them. However, the food was so delicious and produced so quickly that we are already gushing to our friends about Mockingbird.
Thank you so very much for the delightful experience and the fantastic senses of humor!!!
Mockingbird was the perfect canvas for our brunch! Our trio was seated in the corner table and we held court for three hours enjoying the delicious meal, chatting, laughing and having a great time.
SERVICE: attentive yet allowed us time to linger; overall the service staff worked well together between the food runners, bartender and our server PreJean, who was so warm and funny that we asked him to take a picture WITH us!
FOOD: everything was a flavorful, colorful and textural delight! Oh wow the Moroccan Spiced Chicken Hash was as delicious as it was beautiful with each element cut into the right shape to bring it all together in a moist and tasty dish. Fried Brussels Sprouts were wisps of crispy leaves with a nice bits of contrast from blue cheese crumbles and saba (something along the lines of a precursor to balsamic vinegar). Magic Potatoes were perfect bites made glossy and saucy from egg yolk. Creme Brûlée French Toast became dessert! The sour cherry compote was a delightful burst of tart that balanced the creamy cloud of cream, custard and caramel.
BEVERAGE: The Mother Aubert was a light and refreshing gin-based concoction with a kiwi for garnish.
ATMOSPHERE: Mockingbird is such a nice modern spot across the street from the iconic Tribune Tower of downtown Oakland. On weekend brunch time, this part of town is usually sleepy but on this particular Saturday there was a lots of construction development and local characters keeping the streets full.
Make sure to try Mockingbird for lunch, bunch, happy hour, dinner, just dessert or for drinks.
The burger was rock hard, the waiter was awkward. I'm sure it would be GREAT with a different meal and different waiter. Host was perfect.
Wonderful farm fresh menu , while somewhat limited always has something for everyone. Set ice is always terrific and very friendly. mockingbird is definitely on the “you’ve got to go there” list for Oakland and the Bay Area.
Good but not great. Apple with speck was just that. Highlight was wilted chicory salad with lardon, interesting and satisfying. My vegetable stew sounded delicious and exotic on the page but was disappointingly bland. Date’s trout seemed nicely cooked and he had no complaints. Bread so crusty I could barely bite into it. Busy cheerful staff, attentive once you got hold of them. Very noisy! Date and I had to yell to hear each other. Pricey for the quality.
Had to wait 45 minutes for a table even with a reservation.
The food is always delicious and the service is friendly and attentive. Love the space. This is one of our favorites!
Mockingbird is always delicious and a real treat. Highly recommended!
Birthday luncheon
Great Happy Hour cocktails. Everyone had something different and all plates were practically licked clean. The Clementine cake was spectacular.
I would not go back for the food or service. However the ambiance was great. The food quality is not worth the prices that they have. I was expecting more from this place based on their reviews.
Friend and I ate there last night. Brussel sprouts were good but we ordered without the blue cheese and think had that been included the dish would have been overwhelming. I ordered a burger, kudos to the chef for making a hand cut patty, however flavor and texture were off, and there was some grizzle and cartilage included. Salad was under dressed or just wasn’t seasoned properly. Maybe I ordered wrong as I was trying to be healthy, and it clearly says they’re serious about their fries...
It was very crowded for a Tuesday evening, perhaps because of restaurant week. We ordered a salad which was excellent and two glasses of rather expensive Syrah Grenache ($15 for a relatively small glass). After the salad we waited for over twenty minutes for our hanger steak and had to ask three servers - no one noticed that we were sitting there while folks all around us were served? Then the steak arrived - which could have been very good only it was cold - where had it been? The wilted greens that we ordered on the side were inedible because it was so tough and undercooked. We are in towntown Oakland a lot and wanted to add to our repertoire of restaurants. That's why we went to explore. Sorry experience.
Made a reservation for New Years Eve. The website didn’t state anything about a select 4 course dinner menu priced at $85 per person. We were a bit shocked we when arrived to check-in for our reservation after the host mentioned this.
Great meal and perfect service. The high ceilings are nice, but the noise levels can be loud at times if you're sensitive to that.
Service and food need attention.
I thought the food and service were excellent. However, the noise level was so high that we couldn't carry on a conversation. So I will not be back.
This was my first time at Mockingbird. I was promptly greeted and seated. Our waiter was attentive, but not intrusive. Our meal was scrumptious and plentiful. The fried brussel sprouts were perfectly done, as was my main course, pork belly. We were too stuffed for dessert. We will definitely be back!
Great place, really good food, and atmosphere. Service was great as well. We will definitely come back when we are in town again.
Great atmosphere, excellent food, service was OK / kinda slow and inattentive. I’d go back.
This place has a very industrial chic feel to it. The french fries were more similar to doughnuts than any french fry I have ever had, and that is NOT a complaint. They were delicious. The muscles were good, the wine was a bit sweet, but all in all, it was a good meal!
It was just ok.
I asked that my receipt be emailed to me, but I haven't received it yet. This will cause a big problem with my expense report.
Good dining option by Oakland City Center. Seated promptly for a group dinner. Good menu options; while the food was not remarkable, everyone was satisfied with their choices. Starters of roasted brussel sprouts and blistered beans were particularly popular. The carafes of local wines, while interesting, were not terrific, and not cheap - we'd probably order something different next time.
We really enjoyed our experience. The service was great, they had our favorite bottle of Pinot at a reasonable price and the food was delicious! We started with the brussels which were the best I think I’ve ever had. For the entree’s we had the steak and chicken. Both were great! Fries were definitely worth it. For desert we had the baked apple. It’s was ok but I wish we would have tried the bread pudding instead. Overall, it was a great experience and we’ll be back!
Came here for my husband’s birthday that I had noted when I made the reservation. The staff seemed oblivious, not even a “Happy Birthday.” The service was okay. The food mixed —my husband’s squash soup and Moroccan chicken, my lettuces salad were all tasty. The squash risotto totally bland. The restaurant is so noisy, it’s difficult to carry on a conversation with the person right across from you.
Love Mockingbird!! It is a favorite. The selection of foods is nice, and every dish we have had over at least a half-dozen visit has been excellent. I have to be gluten-free, and Mockingbird has many options for me, all of which have been really good. I particularly like the Pumpkin Spice cake made with almond flour that is gluten free and has been on the menu now for a bit. It may be the best gluten-free cake dessert anywhere!! We will definitely be back!
Not impressed. Hard seats, loud noise and food not great. Vegetarian/Vegan options limited and not well prepared. French fries were good.
