Best fries. Best service
Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. I've eaten here 4 times and have found that dinner is lovely but unfortunately lunch isn't quite as good.
Nice ambiance, not too formal but quite chic. Food was great and the door manager was super friendly. Our waiter was also terrific.
Just a nice place for people to congregate with good food, great ambiance, and really good service. This is a gem in downtown, worth checking out for those who have never been there.
The hostess couldn’t find my reservation. She asked if I had made it on open table. She replied that open table doesn’t work very well and after a short wait, she was able to scramble a table together for us on a busy night. Something’s wrong if the app claims to have made a reservation that doesn’t, in fact, exist. Isn’t that the point of this thing????
Delicious food. Great service and ambience.
A wonderful spot, full of flavor and lots of smiles. The menu has a large variety of items to choose from and the bread - oh my, delicious!
Great business crowd with a full bar for socializing.
Looking forward to returning to Mockingbird. The food was excellent and the service was great. The only challenge was parking midday in downtown Oakland - it would be great if the restaurant offered valet parking, although I suppose most diners are walking from their offices in downtown Oakland. If parking were easier, I know I'd choose Mockingbird more often.
Overall the food is great but lately the delivery of food has lacked coordination. This is the second time I have dined in the evening that the appetizer arrived at the end of the evening after asking for it.
Great — perfect spot for working lunch.
Used to be much better....disappointed
Brussels sprouts over cooked
Fries were recooked
All in all a bad night for food
We enjoyed meeting some old friends at Mockingbird on a Wednesday night. Overall the experience was very good. The food was tasty, but a bit overpriced. The waiter had good suggestions, but the service was slow. I loved the artwork and the bar was well-stocked.
I haven’t finished food in one sitting in a really long time. This food was absolutely to die for. The owner was really sweet. Absolutely loved it!
Upon arrival, I was seated quickly without having to wait for my guest. I liked the ambiance a lot, with very open airy ceilings and bright space. The menus looked great-fresh, seasonal and local. Service was professional, friendly and attentive. After my guest arrived, I chose a bottle of Beaujolais Cru which was delicious, perfect temperature and went with the whole meal nicely. We shared the Brussels sprouts which had unusual ingredients like blue cheese yet the outcome was tasty and satiating. My guest chose the Moroccan spiced chicken and I chose the lamb and pork meatballs. Neither of us were satisfied with the mains, being somewhat underwhelming in flavor and a little overcooked and dry. Maybe it was off night but it wasn't something we could really send back to the kitchen to redo. I hope my next main course experience is better, as good as the appetizer.
From our arrival at the door to being warmly greeted at our table, everything was wonderful... our server was enthusiastic and knew both the food and the beverage menu..,we never had to ask for anything..it was my second visit to mockingbird and I will most definitely return...
The food was amazing. We will be back. Our server was timely, considerate, knowledgeable and really friendly. We had the fried brussel sprouts (so good), the little gem salad with marinated vegetables and the crab risotto. Can't wait to come back when we are in town next.
In a nutshell - the host was awful. When we checked in, he said, one moment, left, came back and just sat down, for like 5 minutes, left the 4 of us just standing there wondering what was happening, no update, no words. Very odd. The same gentleman literally cut us off by walking right in front of us while we were exiting. Again, no words, no apology, no excuse me. Two of us had to step out of the way to avoid him bumping right into us.
Waitress was wonderful. Cocktails were delicious. Appetizers all very good. Main courses were mediocre. Lamb meatballs were dry and flavorless. Medium rare burger was well done. They were out of crab - after someone in our party ordered it and had her heart set on it, for a 7:30 dinner? already out? After we finished our meal, it took more than 20 minutes for anyone to bus plates. By that time we were over it and ready to leave.... too late for dessert for sure.
They brought out a wrong order for our table and had a hard time recovering from there. It took 15 minutes to arrive meanwhile 3 of us had ours and had the dilemma of letting it get cold. 2 of 4 dishes were good, the others mediocre. I would give it another try to see if we were just unlucky this night.
The Brussels Sprouts were great, could have eaten just those. My clients enjoyed the hamburgers, I had the vegetable Tratine, delicious.. Service was good, seating isn't for me. I prefer sectioned seating versus being shoulder to shoulder with someone I don't know
Mockingbird is not bad, but I'm always underwhelmed. I ordered the trout. The veggies were delicious but the trout was slightly overcooked and dry. Not inedible by any means. It was a business lunch. I'm not going to make a fuss and throw off the whole rhythm of the meal for food that is a little under par. I recently had a similar trout at Red Hill Station in San Francisco that was so delicious - I'm sure I'm comparing.
My lunch companion and I had an amazing meal. All the ingredients in the salads were bright, fresh and had that just harvested taste.
One of the few sit-down restaurants in downtown Oakland for a business lunch. It's busy so make a reservation for lunch. We arrived with reservations - and were seated upstairs while the folks who checked in ahead of us - had no reservations - and were seated downstairs. Upstairs ambiance is what you'd expect - not cool. Food is usually very good - but on this day - maybe because they were super busy - was just OK. Ordered the vegetable tangine - and found it was mostly potatoes. For the money - should have a few carrots, cauliflower or some other vegetable. Guest had chicken kale salad. Was fine. Service was good - got us in/out quickly. Hope it gets better and food quality be more consistent.
Good menu choices, plenty of GF options, including 3 GF desserts
I have several times and the food and cocktails have always been good and the staff friendly!
We had a casual business lunch at Mockingbird as the downtown Oakland setting worked well. We enjoyed the meal, the diverse clientele and the restaurant’s good vibe.
Beautiful quaint restaurant.
Overall a great experience. The tables are a little close, especially if you are coming from work. Also, we requested all the food at once and they proceeded to bring one item at a time. The ambiance was good and not too loud.
This is a delightful restaurant in Downtown Oakland. It was full of life and the owner was on the floor. We enjoyed the crab risotto and a burger with fries. But the best was a delicious caramel bread pudding with whipped cream. It is a trendy space with high ceilings and well chosen art work!
Really cute spot in downtown Oakland! Good food, ambience, and music.
Best vegetarian dish - flavorful - fresh - and hearty.
Good food, beautiful restaurant and good service. Unfortunately, very bad location. Parked around the corner and my car window was broken. Nothing taken as there was nothing to take. Angry homeless people all over.
This is a beautifulllly appointed restaurant, very trendy, very noisy. Perhaps if you sit upstairs it would be quieter. Our waitperson couldn't have been better. The food was generally quite good but could have been better. Some puzzles: eg the pears with speck was a large plate of speck with about 5 thin slices of pear. should have been the opposite proportions.
The soup and smoked trout appetizer were excellent. The tagine and risotto were about a B+. the bread pudding dessert was tiny, and barely enough to share.
The "On Tap" local red, an Urban legend, was perfect.
Friendly spot, nice atmosphere but more a place for friends than a date. Could use a bigger wine selection, hopefully with time and customer requests this will grow.
A little noisy but good food and service. Wine wasn’t great.
Great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, didn't feel rushed. A bit louder than I would've liked but a reasonable noise level for most people with decent hearing (my hearing isn't what it used to be). Not cheap, but within reason for the quality of food, service, location, etc. Brussel sprouts, trout, and Moroccan chicken were all delicious and ample portions. The pear and speck appetizer was also good, but the 4 thin slices of pear seemed a bit meager. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the evening there and would to again.
Have been to Mockingbird three times at the new location and had been several times at the old one. Food is always very good and in the new larger restaurant where more staff is needed and more coordination of service they have it down. Our foursome had the 'sprouts, pate and small salad to start, all great. Entrees were the burger, seafood stew, Moroccan spiced chicken and the meatballs. All great except the meatballs were a bit dry and the small amount of yogurt sauce not quite enough to offset it. had three deserts to share and all wonderful.
I made a reservation for a business lunch meeting at 12 noon. Not only did I have my OpenTable confirmation number, but I also called the restaurant and confirmed verbally with one of their employees, whom I even explained it was an important meeting and just wanted to reconfirm the reservation; she said my name was there, party if 2 at 12pm and all was ok. Once there they said the reservation was at 11:30am, so we had to venture off looking for a place to eat.. needless what an embarrassing situation that was and how much business time we lost. Totally disappointed!
Great food and service!
It was a beautiful meal in a beautiful place.
Gorgeous space! Loved the decor and ambiance. We enjoyed the restaurant week price fixe meals. The duck liver mousse was divine. The delicious toasts that accompanied it were my favorite. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The bread pudding was the perfect sweet ending to a lovely meal!!
