An off night perhaps? Service was abominably slow, though friendly. It was so cold in the dining room that a party of 5 left without even sitting down. My vegetable turine was SO dry I thought they were serving gourds and wall paper paste (thinnest layer of mashed potatoes ever!) The bartender botched our vodka up with lime by putting lemon peel in it. We paid too much for too little. It was unpleasant.
Had a very enjoyable dinner. Menu had great options, nice affordable wine list.
Staff was kind and attentive. Food portions and timing were great as well. The atmosphere
is cozy, candlelit . We will look forward to going back soon. Actually, have been 2 weekends in a row!
Food was good, but it comes out FAST. Ordered three separate courses and we were out the door in about an hour. Appetizers arrived before we had finished our plate of oysters. Not sure if we caught them on a hectic night or if this is the usual pace of service, but any thoughts of ordering a bottle of wine were dashed by the sheer speed of food coming from the kitchen. Worth a second chance but will clearly need to explain our needs to the server better when ordering.
If only the dining room were not quite so dark - almost impossible to read the menu ; and if only the waitress had been less wordy and more attentive, this would have been a perfect meal. The food was perfection, a very fair value for excellent quality. The food was nicely plated, the portions very generous. We went to enjoy Samantha Tilley's cooking, and in that we were not disappointed. I hope they will elevate the lighting a little, and tone down the "personality" of the waitress.
This was our second visit, this time a Friday night, and we were disappointed that our experience it didn't meet our initial expectations. The steak frites' frites were soggy and the service was less professional, although friendly. We'll give it another try, hoping for that higher standard we enjoyed the first time around.
A real shambles, sadly. The place looked so nice. The waitress admitted she knew nothing about the wine and wasn't comfortable opening bottles in front of guests. The starters were not bad. The mains took 45 minutes to arrive (after the starters), and my fish was cold and actually raw (it was not a sashimi/sushi dish). The pasta was very average (especially for the price) and the vegetarian noodle dish lacked any real flavor (it just had heat). The vegetarian curry and confit du canard were both good, though the curry was over-salted. They wine lists spells Burgundy as "Burgandy" many times. Sadly the nice surroundings and pretty well-reading menu didn't really deliver at all. They were, in the end, very understanding about the screw-ups and did comp the two dishes we really complained about and comped us desserts and coffee. This was a very fair comprimise, so it was handled well. Just wish it wouldn't have been so extremely hit and miss.
We had high hopes when we saw the menu and the place is very trendy. The service was good but the kitchen was killing them the food took forever to get to the table and when it did it was room temp.
The daily menu seems to be a challenge as we got the wrong menu and were disaapointed when the desserts we picked were not available.
The place has great potential I hope they can fix the little things.
Mockingbird was my first choice for my birthday dinner! We'd never had yucca, so decided to try the yucca bites for an app. They were delicious with a very tasty dipping sauce. Tempura shrimp were large and served with a chili aioli. The salmon is so good that we both enjoyed it again--perfectly cooked to a medium rare!!! Nice wine selection, too!!
Mockingbird has a new slimmed-down menu. I had the cod from this new menu and found it delicious. It was highly flavorful and was accompanied by a rich broth and tasty smashed charred potatoes. The service was friendly and helpful. Overall, I like Mockingbird's more focused menu and continue to find the restaurant offers an excellent dining option.
The food here is supposed to be really good. Ours- salmon, some tiny piece of cod and the beef burger was just okay to good. The cod was 3 x 4" x 1" thick and had 5 clams with it. That is not worth $30. No side dish or anything with it. 3 small pieces of bread and one of flatbread for 3 of us We are not folks who like a huge amount of food but should not go home hungry!!!
Also, where were the menu items using the summer produce available now? Nor corn items or tomes, basil, squash or anything like that o n the menu, which is very limited. Maybe they had a kitchen issue that night? Not sure we would go again for the amount it costs.
We often go to The Mockingbird because it's the best restaurant in the area.
Samantha does an outstanding job on all fronts-- creative menu, fine cooking friendly staff,
excellent bar (where we prefer to dine). This time we went for our 37th anniversary.
We were barely seated before two glasses of dry prosecco were poured to
celebrate our event. The dinner evolved with oysters, grilled watermelon salad,
amazing miso salmon and the best pork in the universe. We finished, walked
across the street, and topped the evening off with a scoop of Arethusa ice cream,
Overall, the food was great and the atmosphere was good - not loud but pleasantly lively. They were out of the salmon burger, which we had planned to order. But the salon we did get was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The grilled Caesar was a different tale on Caesar; very lightly dressed but good. The felafel mezze had a great mix of flavors. Only dessert missed he mark a bit; the brownie was just okay.
Lovely, small menu. Entrees a little uneven: the miso salmon and the steak were fantastic. The chicken breast for 2 with sides of broccoli, bok choi and pureed potatoes -- was OK but, a little bland. We weren't sure what they were trying to do here. Dessert - meh. Nice wine list. Excellent service. Pleasant atmosphere. I will definitely be back.
We were so happy to have found this gem. I browsed restaurants in the area and Mockingbird Kitchen had a great feel. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was phenomenal, and the food was delicious. We will DEFINITELY be back!
As always, Mockingbird Kitchen and Bar delivered the perfect balance of beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, exceptional service, delicious food (including fabulous vegan options for several friends who are vegan), outstanding drinks and a lively local crowd out for a good time! So much fun to take friends here who are in from out of town. Delicious, inventive and local food by chef/owner, Sam, makes this my go-to-choice for guaranteed great night out on the town!
Give it a try....you'll be very glad you did!
After waiting almost 30 minutes beyond reservation time for a table the restaurant did not have any bread for the table. While an appetizer dish was brought to the table as an accommodation the dish was not very good. The menu has also been reduced with fewer choices. However once the main courses arrived they were good.
I haven't written this bad a review in ages.
This was an awful expireance. Very limited menu. Nothing for kids. They have a " new menu" rib eye was chewy and like a shrink wrapped steak not from a good purveyor of meat. Food took over an hour to be served. While the chef apologized he eventually served us the steak at the wrong temp. We couldn't enjoy one of the dishes as by the time it fooled we had to go to catch a play.
I haven't had this bad an experience in ages. No manager in sight to apologize !!!!!!
I was able to make a reservation, no problem. The wait staff at the bar was very friendly. I would single out the young man Michael? He was very personable, knowledgeable and witty. The entree was wonderful and dessert even more so. I would recommend this restaurant for the food and ambience!
The setting is attractive but the noise level on a Saturday night is unbearable. The restaurant is full of hard services. The service was adequate. The food was not offensive in any way but was utterly forgettable. Even in an area without a lot of dining choices I would not go back.
We have generally been satisfied fans of Mockingbird. However, this time was a disappointment. One of us is gluten free and while GF items are offered, the selection is limited to highly spiced dishes. The Asian noodle offering in the past has included tofu and been delicious, always a good choice. This time a slight variation was way too spicy to consider. We ended up ordering a zucchini dish as an entree that should have been an appetizer. The portion was small and not at all filling and this, too, included a heavy dose of red pepper.
