Mockingbird Kitchen and Bar
New menu item Rack of Lamb outstanding. Bar seating a social event.
This restaurant has gotten mixed reviews and we thought we would give it a chance.
We made the mistake of going for a Birthday celebration and had informed the restaurant in
advance. We were seated in the dining area adjacent to the bar, which was quite loud. The food while very good, was not hot because the server was distracted from paying attention to us or our order.
We will not be going back any time soon.
Food was wonderful. Service was friendly and helpful.
Only issue to note was it took a bit of time for food, tho restaurant was not busy
Excellent food and service, in a relaxed setting n
Great food as always!
A nice place for a special meal. Fresh ingredients, bright and pretty location, really nice people. Expensive meal, but good quality.
The food is always delicious and the menu has something for everyone.
This was my second visit to Mockingbird. The restaurant offers an eclectic menu with good variety. The chicken liver pate was excellent, the sea bass was good. The ambiance and physical space are fine. The problem (both times) is the service. We had an early (5pm) reservation as we had somewhere to be at 7, and barely made it. The time between ordering and receiving food is PAINFUL. The staff are not knowledgeable about the menu and their serving abilities aren't much better. Great potential in this restaurant, but lots (still) to figure out.
Always a great time at the Mockingbird! Food is always the best and it’s the perfect place to meet friends.
We had a wonderful dinner. There was a party in one section and it didn't interfere any way with us at the bar or the other room with the fireplace. The service was still quick and friendly. It was a cheery and happy evening for all. One of us had the MKB burger.... yum.... the other had the salmon and cleaned the plate!
We enjoyed our first trip to the restaurant. Unfortunately, there were several menu items (4 that we had initially requested) that were unavailable as they were hosting a private event. We would go back to try the menu items we originally selected. Great service and ambiance.
Really enjoy the atmosphere and the dining experience here. Great service and exceptional food! Even the drinks are made fresh!!
Lovely atmosphere and excellent service. Food was very, very good, but I wouldn’t characterize it as outstanding. Would definitely go back with pleasure. Had a table near the fireplace which was terrific. Given everything, I thought it was a bit pricey
Menu limited and many items not available at 7:30pm
Awesome as always! Love the atmosphere, the food, the service and the friendly wait staff. And, it's always great to see Sam!
On the short list of high-end restaurants in NW Connecticut, Mockingbird sits somewhere in the middle. We've enjoyed exceptional meals but service continues to lag. As we've mentioned in the past, it does not appear to be the fault of the wait staff as you can see them often waiting for orders to complete. This is definitely not a case of too many cooks in the kitchen.
We ate here once before and it was great then as it was Saturday, February 16th,
.The meals we chose were excellent and our server, Amanda was attentive and had the greatest genuine
smile. The restaurant was busy and full throughout our dinner but there was no lack or interrupted
service during our time dining.
We have eaten at Mockingbird many times in the past and, although at times the service is a bit slow, we have always enjoyed our meal and experience. However, this past Saturday night was probably the worst dining experience we have had in our 18 years since we've had our country place in Litchfield County. We sat at the bar for over an hour before our appetizers were served and my appetizer came out of the kitchen about 1/2 after my wife's appetizer. And when it was finally served, it looked like they had just thrown something on a plate to get some thing out to us. Our main meals also were not served for quite sometime after that and, in fact, we had already made the decision to leave, when the entrees were quickly served after we had asked for our check and, again, it looked like the kitchen had simply thrown something on a plate to get it served before we left. We were told that two people had not shown up for work that night and they were short staffed. For my wife and I, worse than the incredibly long wait for the food, was the fact that it looked like the kitchen just threw anything on a plate to get us served after that long wait. We will chalk it up to just a really bad night for the kitchen, but the experience really soured us on a restaurant that had been one of our "go to" weekend restaurants in Litchfield County. Based on our terrible experience this past Saturday night, it might be a long time before we give them another chance.
Excellent appetizers, fresh house made bread, amazing entrees! Very low key and relaxing setting for a Valentine's day dinner!
Lovely Valentines Dinner. Oysters, of course! Wonderful homemade bread. Then a terrific burger and fries, and succulent Berkshire pork chop. Pavlova with fruit was the perfect end to a delicious dinner. Good cocktails and wine, and friendly, efficient service. What more?
Wonderful food, great service. The chef came to our table and spent time with our teenage daughter who LOVES to cook. Above and beyond! Very welcoming.
Sadly, the food was virtually inedible. Good service and decent ambience but desperate need for improvement in the kitchen.
Appetizers (cod cakes and antipasto salad) were excellent
Chicken entree was very good. New York strip steak awful, not trimmed, l o t s of gristle and resting on mashed potatoes making for soggy effect.
Nice restaurant but need to figure out steaks
The environment is warm and intimate with a rustic modern flare. The fireplace added to the atmosphere. The menu was inventive and the entrees were beautifully prepared. They made my simple salmon a treat. There are other things on the menu that are more adventurous. As food came out for other dinners I could not wait to come back and try them. The wait staff was very helpful and attentive. I look forward to visiting Mockingbird again. Easy, laid back, comfortable and friendly. A perfect place to relax with friends.
Most of the time the food is great and didn’t disappoint this evening. Good appetizers, salads and desserts too. The fish dishes are consistently good and the burgers are excellent. The servers are very attentive and friendly. The downside is the cocktail service is slow, especially in the dining room. Don’t blame the servers!!! Atmosphere is cozy and the crowd is fun. Add this to your list as it offers a diverse menu to cover many tastes.
The best creme brûlée I have ever eaten- wonderfully smooth and flavorful and I wasn’t thinking it was too sweet,
because it was perfectly not sweet!
Lamb burger and salad also great.
Beautiful restaurant, roaring fire, great music, good food, lovely server.
Pretty place with terrific classic and innovative food, a fireplace and a great bar.
Great food, great service. Our waitress was #1
Food was fabulous- server was top notch as well. The only slight issue was time between courses was a little longer than I like. Great overall value and I would not hesitate to repeat.
Good food, great drinks, a bit loud but standard for a Friday night, menu options for Mains are somewhat limited but each are truly delicious!
New Years Eve!
The pork dumplings were tasty, the nobu shrimp were greasy, the salad was meh, the lamb burger was fine, but the fries that came with it were limp. Could be done better.
Decent addition to the neighborhood turning Bantam into a foodies destination. Nothing special here, just a decent menu, decent food and decent service in a semi restaurant/semi pub atmosphere. There are better places in the neighborhood but this is a convenient spot for before or after the movie and a decent enough place to return to from time to time.
Always a great place with terrific food. Christmas Eve had a limited fixed menu. The service was extremely slow for a restaurant that was not full. I hope it was an abnormality and not a sign of things to come.
A working fireplace is great except when it starts to smoke and no one on the staff (including manager) did anything about it except look that direction and then turn away.
Christmas Eve 2018, what a great dinner and a fun experience. What other restaurant can you get kisses from the kitchen by the chef/owner. Thanks Sam, for a very nice evening. The staff was spot on and perfectly attentive. See you soon.
Been a few times; owner and head chef are amazing. Just added on a patio which will be great this summer. Highly recommend
The rib eye steak was cooked to perfection. Unbelievably delicious. Just like the perfectly cooked cod and risotto I had last time.
Entrees of salmon and swordfish were outstanding, as was the bread, creamy tomato soup and crusted shrimp appetizer. Dessert of white cream mousse completed things. Venue on a Saturday night during the Christmas season was cozy and had a seasonal feel to it. I'd recommend the restaurant to anyone who wants a terrific dinner in a special setting. We will be back!
The food was great, our waitress was outstanding but the room was cold. We sat in the room with the fireplace and it was spreading some warmth but the floor area was cold. Need to boost up the temperature on the cold nights.
