MKT Fresh Food Beer Market Ratings and Reviews
We had heard some good feedback about MKT and we're looking for a new place for lunch so gave this a try. How can you go wrong with "market fresh pub grub". It turns out you can. I love old train stations and the building/decor is great. It makes you want to linger and there extensive beer and liquor list will allow you to do that. At some point you will need to eat and this is where the disappointment came in. I ordered the fish tacos and while the presentation was excellent, the taste was entirely bland. Furthermore although I love the vegetables that accompany a fish taco, I think it important to note that since it is called a "fish" taco that the fish should be feature prominently in the dish. It did not. I thought perhaps it may have just been my meal but my friend ordered fish and chips and described his meal as tasteless. Despite a lovely building, great decor, and very good service it is unlikely we would return.
We came in to try their "arm" Wednesday, they did not disappoint! I tryed the clubhouse, that cranberry mail was so delicious. I recommend everyone trying it. I love the Ambiance of the restaurant is very unique and different. And their servers are so great.
Met up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while in a spot that was located on Whyte Ave. Great location for a spot to meet after work. Appys/Meals were solid (I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich w/ Beet Salad), and the selection of beer was great to satisfy all tastes. Monday night was not too busy (5:30pm - 8:00pm), so it wasn't too noisy, and was great to be able to have a conversation across the booth.
I've been here before, but it was when they recently opened. Glad to see it's still a solid choice in Edmonton. Can't wait for summer patio season!
We were seated right away but then left for 10 minutes before anyone even bothered to ask if we wanted a menu. When we finally did get our menu and food/drinks everything was good and the management did give us a free appetizer which was nice. The server we had was friendly and the food was delicious but we were over charged for my ceasar which was advertised at $5 on Sundays but we payed $7. We didn't bother arguing about it but I'm not sure if we will go back or not.
Came for a Family Day meal, hoping to find a gem, but it didn't meet our expectations. Our background is German and, honestly, the pretzels aren't supposed to be oily and the spaetzle leave a lot to be desired. I've never had a wurst I could cut with my fork. Our daughter had the fish but left the batter, though she did enjoy the soup and mother liked the fries. It may be a good place to get a cold beer but the food could use some work. Not a place we'll be coming back to very soon.
Food was salty, but I guess if you want to sell beer that's a good thing. Burger was horrible, dry ribs were more rib them meat, wings were fatty, frys were good. Shepards pie, I think they used the same meat as the burger greasy! Nice bar atmosphere but not a place to have a causal meal.
Service was disinterested at best- waited a long time to give order and to pay once bill was presented, despite it not being that busy (we were there before 6pm). Hamburger was very good, but every ingredient was an overpriced extra. The fish tacos were a disappointment, however. The fish pieces were miniscule (actually took the taco apart to see if it was in there), and mostly greasy batter. There are far better food and service options in Edmonton and we will not return.
Wasn't told that reserved seating was upstairs that wasn't accessible to guests with mobility issues. Fortunately we were accommodated with a table in the walk in area and did le have to wait but would have preferred the upstairs as very noisy on main floor. Seems odd in this day & age not to have all parts of the restaurant accessible to all.
Food was great!
The decor of MKT is one of the most unique things you can find in Edmonton. To say they specialize in many beers is already an under statement. Try the lunch special - quarter rotisserie chicken! The meat was surprisingly so juicy and decadent, gravy on top of it did wonders to my taste buds. I paired it off with a local favourite, the Alley Kat Aprikat - to celebrate Alberta Beer Week too!
We made a reservation same day, and we were sat pretty close to another table which was awkward for all of two minutes until we had been served our drinks.
Large portions which is always nice to see, food is reasonably priced and quite tasty. HUGE beer selection, prompt and friendly service.
Everything was just OK. The food was unadventurous. The charcuterie was missing something sweet. The steak was greasy (but cooked perfectly). This would be a great place to catch a burger or appies. Big tables, easy to accommodate groups. Lots of great beers on tap. I'd go back for sure....just maybe not for a nice dinner?
Again great evening at MKT - it was our munchies and beer stop before going to a show at the Jubilee .. it was the first time there for our friends -- very impressed with the place and the beer menu -- we had nachos and wings -- again the quality of food and service was outstanding -- we will all be back -- !!
It was a lovely hot sunny day to sit on the patio and enjoy the varieties of beers on the menu. 60 on tap ! The waitress knew her beers and was able to make terrific choices for us to sample. Service was friendly but slow due to the volume of customers in the restaurant. It definitely is a place to linger and be patient. The dried pork rib appetizer was the best. The chicken club ,was also very good as were the beef dip and steak frites. The Caesar salad dressing is also home made and tasty. But, the beet salad, while tasty, was disappointing because there were barely any beets in the salad. Mostly just various greens. We were too full to try the desserts. We had a wonderful time.
MKT has been a favorite of mine for several years. The menu is always evolving, and the food keeps getting better. Alongside the new dishes, old favorites remain and nothing disappoints.
This is one of the best locations for beer aficionados. With 60 beers on tap and 60 in bottle there is always something new to try. The structure of the beer menu is unique as it groups beers according to taste characteristics. Just find something you know you like and then you can experiment with other offerings in that group. Samples are also available so you can try before you buy a full pint.
The open space and friendly staff make this an inviting restaurant for couples looking for a relaxing night out. MKT is also well suited for groups of all sizes in both the main restaurant and separate party rooms. The upstairs room can easily handle up to 40+ guests; great for birthdays or Christmas parties.
Looking for a good meal in a relaxing atmosphere with a few friends or a special someone then go to MKT. The food is hot, the beer is cold, and the service can't be beat. Enjoy.
its a great restaurant / bar with energetic ambiance, lots of good drinks and tons of beers. the food is casual, not too elaborated but good.
i had a great berry mojito! so good for the hot summer days!! and the chicken is always tender and juicy! the hamburger wasn't the best one.
but the beet salad was just perfect!
Nothing special, overpriced for beer and burgers. Food was just plain not much better than burger king. There is nothing on the menu that is unique or rave worthy.
service was good, beer was good but probably will not go again nor will i recommend it to anyone.
I made a reservation on the tuesday requesting that we have a patio table in the notes. I received a phone call on thursday confirm the reservation and made mention that it was suppose to be a patio table. Which led to me being told that the patio was unreservable. They did provide a solution at the time but I wish I would have been contacted sooner about the matter or that it listed on the opentable app that it was not reservable. Once we arrived at MKT about five minutes before our reservation we were told that they need to make sure our table was ready, which was fine but when they went to seat us they seated us in the far back corner upstairs on a table that didn't have our name on it. The problem i had with it is that there was numerous free tables downstairs and not in a far off corner when the place was dead. We order a beer and determine that this is not where we would like to be seated and found seats around the patio bar until a table came free. The reason I thought you could reserve the patio is because we had been there the week earlier and they had a waiting list and reserved tables on the patio that night and then switched policy the next week. This is very confusing for clients and should have a uniform standard. As for the rest of the night we sat on the patio and once they light the heaters we moved over a table and the servers had no issues with it at all and accommodated us. Once our group became too cold on the patio we were able to move inside and they found us a great table right at the start of the place with no problems. This lead to a rewarding evening out and our group leaving happy even after a little bit of an unpleasant start and being made to feel like we weren't important by being shoved in the back corner out of the way. I believe we will be returning often as our group has decided to pursue social outings every thursday night for the summer.
This is a great place for beer lovers. On Thursdays there are great deals on draft.
Our server was great and attentive.
This time around the batter on my fish was mushy. For a pub, especially a gastro-pub to mess up a staple like fish and chips is pretty disappointing.
Very disappointed went for my husbands birthday, appetizer came after four people had their meal. The Nachos were cold. The service was slow for drinks, the on tap beer wasn't cold. The food was incredibly salty. We had gift cards and were told that even though we were separate bills we could not use more than one. It was definitely the first and the last time I will go there.
Normally I try different things each time I go to a restaurant, but the gluten free prime beef dip at MRKT is so good - I get it with the kale salad every time I go. It has become one of my comfort dishes to order - with an extensive menu I feel that my friends/colleagues can always find something to eat for lunch at MRKT.
We have been to the MKT numerous times and loved the food and the service. This visit however was awful. The food was very bland, fish and chips was crispy on outside but very doughy inside. The two kinds of beer I ordered on tap were flat. We sat upstairs - there was a huge group that were excessively loud, yelling, throwing things across the table, spilling drinks, etc. They really ruined it for the whole upstairs seating and the staff did not do anything to real them in. Security just stood there and watched. Very disappointing.
This was my first visit to MKT and I expected a loud, busy bar with mediocore food and poor selection of wine. Wrong on all three! We had a "quiet" table upstairs by the bar, enjoyed delicious food with a homecooked flavour, and appreciated the wine selection (not huge, but diverse enough for most tastes).
The restaurant was packed - we had to park on the street as the parking lot was completely full. Then we waited about 40 minutes before getting an offer for drinks. We decided to order at the same time in case we got forgotten again. The food was tasty; however, my rotisserie chicken was barely lukewarm. I tried to get the server's attention but no luck so I continued with eating my dinner. I did tell her when we were paying and she offered to get the manager but at that point we wanted to leave and get on with our evening plans. The coleslaw and salad were both great though - I might come back when it is less busy.
Fine for the party set. Food was ok, but not in the top tier of what Edmonton has to offer. Our server was very good and attentive, but the manager's response to an incident we had with a broken glass was lacklustre.
Not a bad place for a beer and pub food or if you want to go where background music is more important than conversation. Not somewhere I plan to go again with so many quality options in Edmonton now.
