MJ's Restaurant and Catering
Was an excellent meal, Again! Make sure you try the soft shell crabs!
I love MJ’s it’s one of my favorite restaurants!
MJ’s Restaurant is charming....located in a small house on Dolly Madison. The significant difference here is the food, exquisitely prepared by Chef Tad. Whether lunch or dinner, these meals make you want to come back again and again!
Our waiter was the best. He pulled umbrellas to our table so we would be out of the sun (outside patio). He constantly refreshed our ice tea. He volunteered to bring a complementary birthday cake slice to our table for our birthday friend. Loved the chicken salad sandwiches and the salad with crab cake. We will go back!
Excellent food and service. Nice atmosphere. Good for lunch.
Fantastic food, service, atmosphere. Will definitely return next time we are in town.
Sound track this evening was smooth / easy listening
Mathew was pleasant, timely and comfortably professional
Salomon = real good
Two different wines by the glass
Topped off with Tangerine sorbet
The waiter was excellent and the entire experience was perfect. Will be back to dine and drink a glass of wine on your relaxing patio. Thank you!
We all enjoyed my birthday lunch. The crab cake sandwiches were delicious and coconut birthday cake was sinfully good. Although we weren’t in a hurry, it seemed like it took quite awhile for all of us to get our food after ordering. Definitely want to come back when you have soft shell crabs on the menu!
Delicious food. Attentive, but not annoying service. Love supporting locally, family owned and operated businesses. Glad we chose to eat here.
The food was delicious. We enjoyed the setting. The courtyard was reminiscent of New Orleans. There was an unusually noisy group in the next room, but that wasn’t the fault of the restaurant.
Always consistent!! MJ's food is delicious - definitely one of my favorites!
This was our 2nd visit and both times we've walked away thinking that we'd paid more for less than at other similarly priced establishments. The meal was nicely plated but totally unseasoned with no one handy to provide salt and pepper.. Really enjoyed the prosciutto flatbread, and the scallop entree was a good portion. $33 snapper entree was tiny with a large unseasoned mashed potato fritter. All in all not bad, but not what we expect for the price.
Wonderful, as always!
The food, service, ambiance...everything was outstanding! I have to eat gluten free and their offerings were many. They even had GF bread for dipping in oil and spices. I’ve never had that in a restaurant before. Looking forward to going back soon!
Lunch with a friend that I haven’t seen in a while. We had a lot of catching up to do and the waiter respected our need not to be rushed. Overall one of my 3 fav restaurants in town
Always try to bring my clients here. Great meal and great service.
Loved being on the patio!
Quaint ambiance, prompt service, excellent menu...I couldn't ask for more. It's my favorite restaurant in Greensboro.
Went to MJ’s after reading reviews and hearing how good food was. Chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my husband and daughter. Seemed to take too long to place order, therefore ate too much bread (which was very good). Disappointed with wine portions by the glass, but the Chilean Sauvignon Blanca was great. Ordered fried oysters for an appetizer which were underwhelming. The shrimp and grits were good, but very soupy. My daughter (12) had the buttermilk fried catfish which she liked and my husband had the scallops which he said were very good. The Pots de Creme dessert was the highlight of my evening...heavenly. Overall a little disappointed, and can’t enthusiastically recommend.
Food great but service by our waiter was poor. Took forever to put entree order in with him talking way too much with table right beside us. Never looked up or around.
Also had to get up to find Walter to get dessert menu as he was doing place settings for basically empty Resturant
Had to get another waiter to get our wine order. He was great! Our waiter was poor!
Pricey but good food. Would expect excellent service to go with food and prices.
MJ's has been our go to restaurant in Greensboro for a long time. They continue to provide quality food with friendly service.
Quaint setting in older house. We were seated in the former livingroom, that had 6 tables and seating for up to 16. With the close quarters it only takes one loud person to over take the room. In this case it was a table of four that were all trying to talk over each other. Extremely uncomfortable the entire dinner. The noise level outways the food and service.
I had the pan seared trout special. It was luke warm and bland. One of the two fillets was somewhat seasoned. The other wasn’t.
My daughter had the petite filet and said it was good. But not outstanding.
The Oreo cheesecake was very good. Best I have had.
For the price I would go elsewhere.
My companion and I were seated at a tight little corner where there was little elbow room. Our mushroom appetizer was wonderful but then we had to wait at least 30 minutes for our dinner after we completed our appetizer. Our waitress told us 3 times that our dinner was coming soon.
When it finally came, my companion's dinner of flat bread was no longer hot.
All in all a disappointing experience.
The food came out slow but was truly amazing
Always absolutely impeccable. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are hands down one of the best places to go in town.
The outdoor seating area is very nice. We did not eat or really pay any attention to the inside areas. We had the Calamari appetizer with Jalapeños and it was very good. I had the braised short ribs with polenta. I was disappointed in the finishes of the dish including the gravy that was served with it and the polenta ended up being mashed potatoes, although they were good, it was supposed to be polenta. The quality of the meat seemed to be good with a good amount of lean meat. I also had the wedge salad that was good. My wife had a salad and she said it was good, but how can you mess up a salad? My daughter had the scallops. They were very tasty but the risotto had a spice that gave it a different taste and the risotto seemed to be under cooked..? Maybe it was the type of risotto, she didn't eat it. I had a glass of Bordeaux french wine which was the best part of the meal. The service was adequate and welcoming, but not great, when I mentioned the Polenta issue he said nothing. Oh well, we try different restaurants all over when we travel, so next time we will try somewhere else.
The food is always high quality with local flare. The lobster mash potatoes are the most amazing side and they don’t try to over sauce their food but just add enough for a great taste! The service is terrific. A must try while in Greensboro.
This is one of our most favorite restaurants. The food is always delicious and the service is awesome. We visit often and love it!!! Tim our server is fantastic. Thank you MJs for the fine dining experience that always exceeds our expectations.
Food was delicious, service was exceptional and price was fair. Couldn’t ask for a better experience-we’ll be back!!
Awesome experience as always!!!
We had Salmon, duck, filet and lamb ~ all were “over the top” fabulous!
We love this place. ‘One of our favorites 👍
Everything about this place is 5 stars!!!!! From the moment we entered we were engulfed by the quaintness and aesthetics of the ambience. The service was on point, friendly and knowledgeable. I love how the owner kept the original architecture of the home and yet still incorporated a great design for an exceptional dining experience. Oh and the food!!!!!! Every dish was perfectly seasoned. Absolutely no complaints at all!!
Steak was undercooked- Crab cakes were not good.
Good restaurant but not great. My steak was great, as was my wine. The cheese plate also offered a great variety. Again, very good, but I’ve had better in Greensboro
Great place for lunch with a friend. Celebrated birthday that included a free dessert to share. Very nice.
Nice ambience. Good choice for special occasions. Limited parking.
