MIZU Sushi Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews

We've been to both locations (Campbell and MV) and they're different settings with similar food. The Campbell location has a more upscale feeling and atmosphere. Service was good at both locations. We had a 7:45 reservation but checked in an hour early (expecting to just have a drink at the bar). We were pleasantly surprised to get seated immediately. In addition when we noticed that one of the booths was open we requested to move and were again pleased that they moved us. Both of those things will give us reason to return. The meal was as good as we've had before. We split a sashimi salad, and also the sashimi dinner which provided 10 good sized pieces of fish each. Also had garlic edemame to start which were very tasty and had lots of garlic. Service was very good as usual. This place is always crowded on weekends so make sure you have a reservation. We will be back for sure.
As I sit here with stomach pain after our dinner here, a prompt for a review of this place come up on my phone, so this might be a bit bitter, but here it goes.
We got the signature sushi boat for two, cherry blossom, hot mango and the citrus-salmon Hi appetizer.
The rolls were not bad, appetizer was just okay. When we got to the sushi boat, the sashimi was fine but one of the nigiri, I couldn’t tell what fish it was, a white fish, not tuna or salmon, it did not taste fresh. Very fishy and even when I tried to cover it up with more wasabi the taste was still too strong and I ended up spitting it out.
I’m not sure if that’s what it was or that the tuna wasn’t really tuna but the waxy fish that cause stomach issues but a couple hours later I’m running to the bathroom with stomach on full evacuation mode. Sorry for the TMI but I have to be honest. Don’t think I’d ever come back here.
I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids. They sat my date and I in the center table smack in the middle of all the background noise and would not move our table to a quieter spot:( I explained my dilemma but they were not accommodative at all! I could go on about the food and service but will just say that I will not be eating here again.
Plenty of specialty rolls and they use real Dungeness crab in some of them! I really liked the rainbow Blossom: filled with Dungeness crab, avocado, fresh salmon & tuna exterior, topped with fried popcorn scallop! Soo good! Mizu Jumbo is their most popular and has shrimp tempura, asparagus, tuna, eel, and tempura crunchies. Complimentary miso soup. It's loud inside and very busy so definitely make a reservation here on OpenTable and arrive early! Service is polite. Jira took care of us and apologized for the wait to order. Waters refilled frequently.
Honestly Mizu is always delicious
My girlfriend wanted sushi so I decided to take her to this place. It's my favorite sushi restaurant in San Jose. Amazing food, amazing service. I love the presentation of the sushi. Just be sure to make a reservation. You'll be glad you did.
The service tonight was poor. Usually the waitress and or waiter are attentive and take care when presenting the food. Tonight the plates were placed without care and it felt like we had to figure out where the placement would be. She was not personable. Service felt rushed and robotic. When asked to substitute an item as I prefer not to consume tempura, her response was the manager us not here to speak with. Previously if something was not to our liking it would not have been an issue. I ate it the sushi and removed the tempura, but would not order that roll again.
Bummer: Mizu has now significantly reduced their menu (the menu still showing on line is presumably the old one, much more extensive and varied than what you get at t he restaurant!).
For example the very popular Dynamite Baked Seafood is no longer listed. On the positive side, after we expressed our disappointment, our waiter said that they could do the dish for us, which we really appreciated. It is so delicious, they should put it back on. There was another dish that we missed, but since we could not remember the name, we lost out on that one.
The rolls' choices have also been reduced. :-(
