Mixto Ratings and Reviews
We dined at Mixto for restaurant week. I have been to the restaurant before & always had great food & service (brunch & dinner). This visit was a little disappointing. Our server was great, but the kitchen was way behind. We waited a good 25-30 min between our app & entree, when it finally came out it was blah (salmon was dry & chicken dish lacked flavor).
I don’t think the menu options were a good representation of the restaurant. If I based my opinion off my last visit alone I would never return.
Dessert was good!!
Tis was our 1st visit to your establishment. It was a most enjoyable evening. We will be back. The food was delicious and well presented. The waiter was readily there when we needed his service. The only down side was being seated by the door. Sunday was a cold night and every time a group entered the individual on the end was chilled. We would definitely like to return in the spring when we can enjoy the outdoor dining option.
My first time to the restaurant and i was beyond happy with the service and the food is fabulous. My boyfriend is Puerto Rican and we are extremely picky when it comes to Spanish food besides his mother’s. This by far was the best Spanish food outside of his mother’s kitchen we have ever had..
Fantastic restaurant all the way around. This was our third visit to Mixto and it's extremely consistent with authentic food and flavors. The octopus salad was delicious and also the avocado omelet. Make sure you get the tostones (fried smashed green plantain)...truly scrumptious with their homemade salsa. Their coffee is excellent also. Great place to eat no matter what time of day.
We were a group of 8 so I expected to wait. However we weren’t even finished when a person waiting to be seated asked us how long we would be because they had had a reservation too and we were sitting at their table. I suppose the restaurant reserves this area for larger groups??? How did this person know that we were sitting at her reserved table? I am guessing the hostess told her? Then as we were working out the bill the manager? Came up to us and asked us how long we would be. Anyone could see we were counting money and ready to leave. Our waitress was sweet but the people pushing us out of the restaurant were rude. If you want groups out quickly your kitchen has to move more quickly.
We were seated immediately and the tables were very close together. We were greeted by the waiter in a very friendly manner and work promptly served, maybe even too prompt. The soup was served mildly warm and the paella was mediocre and without a lot of taste. They did bring up for a drink for the mistake with the soup. The waiter was very professional and friendly throughout.
We have been there 17 times in 2017 and I guess one bad visit is ok. The food was bland and just warm and the service was poor. We had to get up to find our waiter each time. Also maybe the standards of the place lowered for when we were done the waiter just handed off containers. Normally they would wrap it so we can enjoy coffee and desert. Felt like we were at Applebee’s . Sorry to say we were disappointed .
Service was terrible. We requested a table in the bar, they could not accommodate but did not notify us until we arrived. We waited, finally squeezed into 2 seats in the corner. There were about 30+ people in the bar, and only 2 bartenders, one of whom was not attending to any of the guests. Don, the male bartender was the only one helping the patrons at the bar, and he proceeded to have a 15 minute argument with a woman about her bill. Rather than taking care of people. He demanded we pay cash instead of credit, luckily we had some. We tried to order food and a third round of drinks, Don put his hand up to my husband’s face and said “I’m dealing with another party right now, you’ll need to wait.” We had 2 drinks and left because the service was so terrible.
The food was excellent. The food is a combination of Cuban and Carribean which just the perfect amount of spice without being considered hot. The cor was colorful and vibrant. The service started off slow but once the waiter Ralph (misp) came over; he was great and more than made up for by his customer service and the excellent food selection. I would def recommend or go back a second time. The pan seared talipia was awesome.
Overall things were very good! Small details that could have made it better like our table was wobbly and we were located at the top of the stairs. The neighboring table was close enough that they commented about the food we ordered and our drinks. But the food was excellent, the mojitos were superb, the timing on the dishes was great and our server Henry was very good!
Honestly, my date and I were so disappointed with our meals that I apologized several times for picking the place. It had been a few years but I recalled excellent food before. This was abysmal. We both ate it only because we were so hungry. 10/10 will never make this mistake again.
I've enjoyed myself here on numerous occasions but this was the first time the seafood paella was subpar. The entire dish was dried out as though it had been sitting on the counter under hot lights for a while. And worse, there was a fishy smell and taste throughout. I've had this dish a number of times at Mixto and it's always been superb so I'll chalk this one up to a bad night and I'll try it again another time.
Brunch for two people each ordering 1 plate of food should not take over 2 hours. Drinks took 20+ minutes to come from the bar (eventually a busser started making them since the bartender was so slow - she was the only one on her game). Our server was inattentive and all over the place ... and when our table almost collapsed because a peg came out of one of the legs, we had to fix it ourselves because she forgot about it. Your guests should never have to get on their hands and knees in your restaurant.
Usually better than this ... get it together Mixto, I want to like you!
