Great experience! Gracias Santiago!!
Birthday dinner with friends. Many coconut mojitos and delicious food made for a great eve.
Great food as always! Tables were too close to sit down comfortably but even more our waitress was terrible. Could hardly be bothered to take our order or bring us our check!
Great experience -- we apprecaited the time given during our meal (didn't feel rushed), although the service could have been slighty faster -- we will be coming back
We were looking for a moderately priced place with good food and good atmosphere for a dinner with friends. Mixto was an excellent choice. We were lucky enough to be seated on the first floor near the window, so we had a close-up view of the street scene. The food and atmosphere were great. Our waiter could have been slightly more attentive, but at least we didn't feel rushed. We would definitely return!
We went to an early dinner Mixto before going to a show at the Academy of Music, we were genuinely surprised at how crowed it was so early on a Saturday night. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was fabulous, we had Maduro Rellenoan as an appetizer that we shared which was a sweet plantain with Cuban beef covered in mozzarella cheese. It was so good! For entrees we had the Borrego, lamb chops and the Churrasco Argentino, skirt steak both were wonderful. We finished with Flan so yummy. We will definitely be back!
Really enjoyed Mixto. Warm yet casual atmosphere, accommodating staff. Although not a "foodie" I do appreciate a well prepared and presented dish. I shall return!
Nice place, good service. The margarita was excellent. The food was very good, but the portions are large, so don't order too much.
Excellent place, food was great, enjoyed the latin flavors.
Little bit slow in bringing the food, but overall good service!!!
I had great service! Food was AMAZING!! I’m DEFINITELY going back!!
Great food. They brought the check before asking if we wanted more drinks.
Food is amazing!!!!! The only downside is the service is slow, especially when busy! But the food is worth it.
Good overall. Had the Mixed Plate appetizer - only thing I didn't like was a spare rib that was too dry. Scallops were delicious, as was the Shrimp.
I waited 2 hours and 15 minutes for an omelet I could have made at home... not to mention I could have made it 10000x better.
Place was awesome!!!!! They accomedated my food allergies
We definitely had an awesome time we will be back
The food, as always, was excellent.
Hostess appeared disorganized, servers also, made a reservation in advance and tables were not set for 6 until we arrived. Did not provide steak knives, syrup, or salsa. Isn’t that expected for every meal that has some sort of steak, pancake, or Hispanic cuisine. Service has definitely fallen off and servers don’t seem to care as much since they’ve been there for years! Disappointed again as usual. Food is always on point but service always sucks!
Always a favorite when I lived in the city and still now after moving out to the burbs!!
Lomo Saltado (Peruvian Stir-Fry) and Scallops were exceptional! Ambiance is enhanced by the smaller size of the restaurant and meals were an exceptional value.
I've had Mixto bookmarked for a few years now and I finally made it. I made a reservation for two about a week in advance. On the night of our reservation, we were stuck in traffic and were running late. I called to let them know and it was no issue. Once we arrived, we were seated immediately. It's very cozy inside. The ambiance definitely has a Latin American vibe. There's sort of two and a half floors. As soon as you walk in, there are steps leading directly to the second floor. On the main floor, there is a bar section that is roughly half a flight up.
We started with some drinks and an appetizer. My wife ordered a mango mojito, which she really enjoyed. I ordered the Mixto Passion, which from what I recall contained passion fruit juice, rum, Alize and one or two other ingredients. It was good, but I was disappointed at how small it was.
For an appetizer, we went with beef empanadas. I love empanadas and Mixto makes delicious empanadas. For our main entree, I ordered Borrego, which is grilled lamb chops on top of risotto with asparagus, mushrooms, artichokes and parmesan cheese and topped with a delicious red wine reduction sauce. My wife ordered Chuletas de Cerdo, which was two pan-seared pork chops sauteed with tomatoes and onion. It was served with traditional yellow rice and beans. Both of our meals were delicious.
The only damper on the night was our wait time between our appetizer and our entrees. Our server, Rich, informed us that there was a party on the second floor, which is why our entrees took much longer than normal to be brought to us. At one point, I started to get a little annoyed, but having our food finally brought to us and the fact that everything was so delicious made up for it.
Overall, I would definitely dine at Mixto again. Great food! Hopefully, we won't have to wait as long and I'll make sure to get an alcoholic beverage in an adult-sized glass.
We went out for a girls night on a Saturday and were excited about trying someplace different. I cannot say that I would want to go back again. The concept was solid but the execution left much to be desired.
Check in – We had reservations and were greeted by a friendly front end team and were immediately seated.
Server – Patient with allowing us to decide what to order. I do not know if there were any specials that night or not as none were mentioned. The place was quite crowded and the server seemed a bit overwhelmed (dropped a few items while we were there).
Pisco Sour – These were good. Although I ordered a regular and my friend ordered the passion fruit, we both ended up with passion fruit. As the server looked to be a bit overwhelmed I didn’t fuss about it and did not ask for a replacement.
Chicharrones de Cerdo – Fatty. Very fatty. With a description of crunchy pork bits these missed the mark. They were so fatty in fact that some could not be chewed, and we didn’t finish them.
Guacamole – Pretty standard guacamole. We enjoyed it. The plantain chips were crisp
Ropa Vieja and Pernil Rostisado – This is where things went very wrong. There was no depth of flavor. In fact, the only flavor was salt. It was so salty that we couldn’t eat it. It was as if someone poured salt over it after cooking, forgot they salted it and added more. No amount of mixing or eating with the sides could correct that. We both ended up taking the food home with the hope of being able to fix it so that it could be eating another day.
Bread – The bread came with the dinner and we tried to use it to play against the saltiness (as the bread was slightly sweet tasting) but even that couldn’t save the main dishes.
We did not try dessert as we were under a time constraint.
I do not know if it was the dishes we selected or just an off night, but I won’t be back again to find out.
Great atmosphere and good drink selection!
Service left a lot to be desired but the food and prices were quite good
Amazing food!! There was kid there who was making a fuss but other than that it was great!
The Restaurant Week menu was very very good. Wine selection was okay. The food was exceptional. My wife loved the the stuffed salmon (with crabmeat). My rib eye was done exactly as ordered. Sometimes medium rare is a challenge....not here!! Adrian was attentive without being intrusive...to me that is a mark of an excellent waiter!
Love it here. Always a favorite!
The food was horrible! It was overpriced, “glammed up, wanna be” Cuban food. I was really disappointed. I have been searching for a nearby criollo restaurant to satiate my cravings for my moms cooking, sadly Mixto did not fulfill 😕, Our waiter was also missing the entire evening 👎🏼👎🏼
The food was super fresh and flavorful. Desert was amazing. Service was great. Cool interior!
I love Mixto!! Tonight was my time dinning there, my server was absolutely delightful, the food was amazing. I will definitely return! Great experience.
Enjoyed a lunch before a show, drinks and food were very good. Will return
Terrible service, terrible food and terrible "Mexican" menu. This was an awful meal and was not served our horrible food for 40 minutes and was extremely overpriced for what we got. Brunch menu only...at 1pm? I must think of brunch being earlier. Will NEVER recommend or go again!
It was a tough night because we were there during restaurant week, so it was very busy and as a result the service and kitchen were slow. The restaurant week food was ok. I recall having a better experience on a regular night when they were not so jammed, and because their regular menu is interesting. To be fair, we could have ordered off their regular menu even though it was restaurant week, but we decided to try the limited menu instead and all regretted it later. Hindsight is 20/20!
There was a large group of women that were really loud and consequently everyone else was loud to compensate. Very noisy to the point of being very uncomfortable!
Took one hour to get our dinner
We came for the Restaurant Week Special ... such a super deal! So glad we tried a new place. Will definitely return.
Try the Coconut Mojito. It. Is. Amazing.
We frequent mixto, but this experience was by far the worst. We arrived at 12 for brunch and there were only five tables upstairs where were seated. It took 30 minutes to get a glass of water and 45 minutes before our food order was taken. The server claimed they were short staffed. At about 1:00 we finally received our food and drink order but never received the coffee we ordered. We then asked the server for it 4 times and still never received it. The manager never spoke to our table instead appeared to be hiding in the office. Very rare for this type of service from here. Hopefully, they get back on track. The food was delicious though!
