Mitch's on El Paseo Prime Seafood Ratings and Reviews
One of our favorite valley restaurants. Because of its very diverse and well done menu. Something for everyone. Appetizers are my favorite and often have several apps as my entire dinner. We took some out of town friends this visit and they enjoyed it greatly.
We have dined at Mitch's about 10-12 times during the past year and unfortunately this was the least enjoyable visit. We had a group of 4 and were seated at a covered table right next to the kitchen with all its smells, noise and traffic. Our service was rather inconsistent and for some reason the food just wasn't on the same level as our prior visits even for the same servings (i.e., shrimp and scallops, sea bass). Overall, I would say the experience was tainted by the mixed smells emanating from the kitchen. Nonetheless, we'll still visit Mitch's but will be far more aggressive about where we sit. One of my concerns is whether their choice of table for us was due to our having made our reservation through Open Table vs. our calling direct to the restaurant on other occasions.
We were there six months ago and very impressed. Food was not the same quality (in some cases slightly overcooked or dry - short ribs). Perhaps just an off night.
We had requested a table on the lawn two weeks ago and were seated looking at the door to the kitchen. Asked to be moved and they did so. Service was very good.
Disappointed with quality of lobster. Very dry. Sushi was good as was salmon. Overpriced for what you get. A few of our chairs were partially on patio and partially in the rocks towards the grass - very wobbly and uncomfortable. Waitress was nice but nothing special.
First time visit and enjoyed a great dinner. Actually, we ordered five appetizers to share: gazpacho w/shrimp, shrimp tempura, shrimp & lobster martini, spicy bbq shrimp and a dozen Kumamoto oysters on the half shell. All were outstanding and they gave us a great sampling of what Mitch’s has to offer. Our waiter/sommelier helped us pair them with a great bottle of Pinot Noir. We ate outside under the back canopy and the propane heaters helped take the edge off of the light chill in the air. All in all a wonderful evening, and we look forward to the opportunity to go back.
Even if you show up without reservations during the busy season, the owners who are the maitre d's go out out of their way to be helpful in finding a table. No attitude whatsoever. My favorite part is the outdoor setting has a large grass lawn which makes it feel so open. There are plenty of heat lamps to make even winter dining lovely. And the food is always good, service friendly.
I always love coming here. Great food!! On Saturday, I had Chilean Sea Bass (first time eating that fish)...DELICIOUS! I am going back to have it again! Everything at our table was great! We will continue to bring friends here. One couple had never been (they loved it), we brought the other couple back after taking them there for the first time. They wanted to go back! Going to bring my sister next. I told her about the sea bass, now she wants to have it!
We were quite impressed with the quality of food for this large restaurant in Palm Desert. The outdoor patio was very pretty with the lights and the way the tables were set up. It was a bit cooler that evening and and they had plenty of heaters set up around the tables. Only complaint is that the Dover Sole was not hot when it arrived but it is a thin piece of fish and cools quickly. The other fish served came very hot. The prices were steep but the portions very ample. We look forward to coming again and trying out the sushi, or sitting in the cool looking bar and trying out some of their signature cocktails!
