M husband and I had brunch on Sunday and the we were very impressed with the quality of the food, the ambience of the restaurant and the excellent service. We will definitely dine there again.

Food was excellent. Service was good but I feel like they were understaffed. Either someone called in sick or they didn’t schedule enough. Things were a bit delayed, but not egregiously. Would done here again for sure.

Sitting outside on a beautiful evening. I love the tables on the sidewalk. Food was not good and service disappointing. Our table was super wobbly and multiple servers walked by while we’re were trying to remedy the situation but none offered any help. One of our party ordered from the Elements menu and their entree was served 10 minutes before anyone else’s.

Super disappointing. I used to eat at Mistral frequently around 2018 when I was a chef in the area and always loved it. I’ve been singing its praises since then, but it was nothing like it used to be. I started off with an oyster shell getting stuck in my gum, the server was very sweet and apologetic but her manager refused to take the rest of the oysters off the bill. The rest of the food was desperately under-salted, sauces were broken, and the steak still had some of the silver skin left on. Simply not good food, nowhere near as good as it used to be. I was there celebrating my mom’s birthday and we didn’t even get dessert. Definitely won’t be back.

We had eaten as Mistral before and very much enjoyed it. We made a reservation for graduation weekend and were not told it would be a limited prix fixe menu. I had to provide a credit card number upon making the reservation and agree that it could not be cancelled. The menu was 3 courses, each consisting of about 4 choices. I had specified that there was a vegetarian in our party, and the only main course available to her was some kind of deep fried mushroom. We asked if we could get two starters instead of the main but were told that was not possible. The (lovely) waitress also told us that other people had requested two starters, which makes me question their choice of main courses. All in all, not the experience I had hoped for.

Each in our party of four ordered quite different things. The brunch is well considered, even simple scrambled eggs were well seasoned and elevated with chives and grilled bread. However, the fried potatoes were covered in a strange egg sauce that felt like a mistake and added no flavor. The coffee and cocktails were mid. The salads were quite overdressed and lacked seasoning, the french fries were clearly from frozen (and seemed like an afterthought), and the burgers with fried eggs were pretty tasty. The hosts were friendly and got us to our table quickly, and despite the restaurant being only about half full, they sat us next to the restroom, which I understand, but still, it was not the greatest experience considering that there were plenty of nicer tables that were never filled during our meal. The server was nice and uninvolved, but maybe also a little unhelpful. I guess it was an inconsistent experience.

The noise level was over the top- the kitchen is open to the dining room and the dishes clanking and clashing, silverware being dumped, the chef’s team calling out orders was so overwhelming that I had a difficult time hearing my guest sitting at a table for two. While the service was good and so was the food - the noise level is a no. I have been there before but never experienced this level or volume of noise. There is a quieter option but that was not offered to us- not sure if that was a matter of convenience for them but it was not suitable for us!

I am a longtime Mistral customer and remember when Chef Ben was in the kitchen making magic happen in every dish. Today’s Mistral is a far cry from Mistral a decade ago in the worst of ways. The food is *really* unremarkable and borders on being downright awful. The service was mediocre (unless we have Christian, who is a real gem and makes the experience positive). The cocktails are also hard to choke down and really aren’t as tasty as they once were. Tonight, I went to Mistral with a friend. We had a great time together, but we bonded over how awful the restaurant experience was. My Monkey’s Head cocktail was not good, the tuna tostada was bland and was missing acid, and my scallops were grotesque. They were overly salty and smelled very fishy. There were four on the plate and the texture of one was completely off. When service came to check on the experience, we said we had a rough time with the meal and only enjoyed the shrimp bao buns and glass of red wine we had. Even the s‘mores dessert left something to be desired. I am so shocked that the quality of this restaurant has gone down so drastically while the price point suggests it would be one of the more premier dining options in Princeton. I don’t plan to be back anytime soon, and not until there is R&D on new recipes, quality ingredients, balanced cocktails, and good food across the board.
