I don't usually take the time to write a review, but I just had to comment as the wait staff was so friendly and helpful (without being obtrusive) that I wanted to point that out. Also, the service was prompt; no long waits to order, get food, check etc. And the noise level on the patio was great - very easy to have a business discussion between the 4 of us in attendance. The only suggestion would be to be a little more explicit on the menu. For example, a colleague's dish said it came with artichoke hearts, but she didn't know they would be deep-fried and would have asked for them not to be. My fish was a tiny bit dry, but overall very good. I probably would have given an overall rating of 4, but the service kicked it up to a 5!

I have been coming to this location when it was Longden's Bar and Grill and Redwood Shores Bar and Grill and now have enjoyed it as Mistral. We were celebrating two friend's birthdays. Everything was enjoyable. I had my retirement party in the wine room 10 years ago. Back then I worked with Marlon to set up the party. Enjoyed working with him back then but hadn't seen him in a couple years. Was delighted to see him Thursday night! He and our waiter took very good care of us. Everyone enjoyed their meals too!

Came on a Saturday night. Mahi Mahi was over cooked as was the hanger steak. Kitchen compensating for over cooking by smothering with sauces and marinades? No complaints on the chicken entree. Waiter was too informal (hey guys ya doin'?) and didn't know the daily soup special Had to ask another waiter who snapped at him. Overpriced considering lack of attention to quality ingredients and cooking. Too bad -- we've been neighborhood patrons for years. Please figure out what's going on in the kitchen and re-train the wait staff.

I booked Mistral well in advance to ensure we had a romantic outside table for our 25th anniversary. When we arrived there were no outside tables available and we were told we couldn't wait for one because they had placed three large Oracle groups out there. This was our first time but we will not go back. We even called ahead to let them know we were running 10 minutes late and they assured us it was no problem. They obviously knew then the table we reserved was not going to be available yet they didn't mention a word. To add insult to injury they even said 'yup we saw you said it was your anniversary in the reservation'. We didn't get a sorry from the hostess or manager. The waiter tried his best but he couldn't salvage a disappointing experience. I also ordered mussels and they were subpar - the rest of the food was great.

The night we went they seem very short handed. It took the waiter a while to get to us, they messed up on our orders and even though I asked them to put a candle on my daughter's dessert (which they agreed to do), they forgot to do it. Use to really like this place, sad to see it go downhill.

I was super disappointed by their service given we spent more than $300 for 4 adults and two kids. After being seated, nobody came to even offer us water or take our orders for drink for about 20 mins till we asked twice for service. Finally someone came to take our orders for drink and messed up the order by sending us a wine we picked by glasses instead of by bottle...have to ask him to take it back and bring us a bottle. When they bring the bottle for us to taste, the waiter spilled some of the wine on the table while pouring the first glass, which is very unprofessional, and that was a $80/bottle wine...I used to be a regular customer of this restaurant, but now I doubt I will ever be back there again.

Mistral has always been a "dependable"go-to place for me and my girlfriends to meet at for dinner. We could usually rely on the food and service. But the last dining experience we had wasn't so great. That night, we decided to all order Mistral's signature dish, the grilled skirt steak. Don't know if it's just an off night for the chef, but while the steaks were cooked according to our specifications, the teriyaki glaze was really salty, I had to eat more carbs than I'd normally eat just to neutralize the salt. The veggies that accompanied the dish were undercooked to the point of being tough to eat. The green beans seemed old and stringy. The tap water that they give on the table was lukewarm. The cafe mocha I got at the end was tepid. Luckily we were more intent on catching up, but the food (and the lack of attention to quality) was not what we have come to expect from Mistral. Might have to take Mistral off our go-to places list.

Found Mistral with some searching of the typical places. I don't trust all the ratings since some from certain sites are fixed but this seemed to live up to most of what was said based on three separate sites. Nice place for a business dinner as it was during the week. I could see this place getting crowded on the weekends. The scallops looked great. The flank steak was disappointing. The Caesar salad was good as where the spring rolls and calamari. Will likely return. Thanks!

Working at the Oracle campus, there really isn't much nearby other than Mistral for business lunches and dinners. We go there a lot. BUT.... Everybody loves it. I often hear from colleagues that they really enjoy it every time they go there and how lucky we are to have such a quality place so close to us.

Food was outstanding but otherwise it was disappointing. Service was inattentive, slow, and poor. Timing of courses was terrible it was as if they were in a completely unnecessary rush to turn the table on a Tuesday night - the place was half empty by the time we left around 8pm

- no cocktail/wine by the glass list provided when we were seated
- waiter didn't come to table for over 5 mins, then had to get cocktail list, then took over 5 mins again to check me back & get drink order
- main course brought to table before we were even done with first course. Shouldn't they be waiting until we're done before even starting to make them??
- waiter was clueless about matching wines to our courses. When I asked what wine would go well with my main course he said "red"
- I didn't see anyone working there smile the entire night

Doubtful we will come back

We lunched on the covered deck. The noise level was high due to a large group of what appeared to be co-workers filling several long tables nearby. The food was very good and the service attentive. Several years ago Mistral opted to cover its deck with an unattractive canopy and partially screen the windows with glass. In my opinion, this was a mistake. The deck is not very attractive and there is no longer any feeling of outdoor dining. The food, especially the fish dishes and salads, remain very good. We were disappointed that the warm pizza dough style bread now costs extra, but it is worth it. Mistral remains a good dining destination in what is otherwise a food desert.

Have been there several times in the past, most recently about 5-6 weeks ago, and had always had a pleasant overall experience, both food and service. Monday evening was a bit disappointing.

As to ambiance, we were seated outside the main dining room and the heaters were on so high we had to ask them to turn down the temperature. We were told there is no lowering of the temperature; either on or off. About an hour later, it then got too cold and we had to ask them to turn the heaters back on.

For service, our server greeted us immediately and said she'd be back shortly to tell us about the daily specials. It was at least 10 minutes before she returned to tell us and/or ask us for our beverage order.

For food, two (in our party of six) asked for fish. The salmon dinner was nice but a bit overcooked (more well done than medium). The halibut dinner was substantially overdone and really inedible. To the server's credit, she did deduct that off our final bill.

I guess every restaurant does have "off" days and I'll probably still give them another try in the future since, as stated above, I've always had pleasant experiences there in the past.

Good Skirt Steak, the scallops dish was less than expected... I contacted the waiter, he said he would take care of it... the manager delivered a freshly prepared scallop meal and said this is the way the scallops are to be served here. I shook his hand and thoroughly enjoyed the scallops dish.
They made it right but, the first one never should have left the kitchen. My guess is the scallops were finished before the steaks and the dish sat, and sat so the three meals would be delivered at the same time.

I haven't been to Mistral in a while. I was unfortunately disappointed. Our waiter was training another. He got our appetizer order wrong. We asked another waiter who told us we had the mushroom flatbread - odd no mushrooms and so this was an out of body experience. I had to ask 3 times for olives for my martini. The Cesar salad - usually awesome was super bland. The tri top a bit over marinated. I'm not sure- maybe they've gone downhill? Or just a bad experience?
