Mistral Restaurant & Bar - Redwood City Ratings and Reviews
This is still a little hidden gem for very nice dining and fortunately it’s not in the mainstream area so we are able to come here last minute and still get a large table.
The service is always excellent here and they definitely strive to accommodate. The food is usually very good.
I just feel the prices are a bit higher than they should be.
With that said we will continue to come here and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere right on the water.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch. Decided to sit in the main dining room instead of the covered patio. Attentive server. Delicious burger and fries. We were able to carry on a good conversation without a high noise level, which we really appreciate. (Some restaurants nowadays are built for noise).
It was good , however a waiter should know the soup of the day, then when he finds that out why would he not of asked about the fish of day no he has to go back again. Ok so no big deal we order finally and crap he comes back to teell us they are out of 4 different dishes, it’s only 6:30 for gosh sacks. What we we’re finally allowed to eat was great.
But the manager had better step up his or her game or this place will be in trouble soon.
I had a terrific lunch catching up with an old colleague at mistral last week. We both enjoyed the two different seafood specials of the day. The fish is fresh and perfectly cooked I thought the service was quite attentive and enjoy this restaurant quite a bit
Overall very good rating. Only comment is ... I requested table by fireplace via OpenTable. But, restaurant didn’t even recognize the request or say whether it could be accommodated. I did not say anything, but the space was available for a small group of our size. It’s a simple thing and experience was still good. I’d like a restaurant to just recognize a guest’s request.
I don't usually take the time to write a review, but I just had to comment as the wait staff was so friendly and helpful (without being obtrusive) that I wanted to point that out. Also, the service was prompt; no long waits to order, get food, check etc. And the noise level on the patio was great - very easy to have a business discussion between the 4 of us in attendance. The only suggestion would be to be a little more explicit on the menu. For example, a colleague's dish said it came with artichoke hearts, but she didn't know they would be deep-fried and would have asked for them not to be. My fish was a tiny bit dry, but overall very good. I probably would have given an overall rating of 4, but the service kicked it up to a 5!
I have been coming to this location when it was Longden's Bar and Grill and Redwood Shores Bar and Grill and now have enjoyed it as Mistral. We were celebrating two friend's birthdays. Everything was enjoyable. I had my retirement party in the wine room 10 years ago. Back then I worked with Marlon to set up the party. Enjoyed working with him back then but hadn't seen him in a couple years. Was delighted to see him Thursday night! He and our waiter took very good care of us. Everyone enjoyed their meals too!
Came on a Saturday night. Mahi Mahi was over cooked as was the hanger steak. Kitchen compensating for over cooking by smothering with sauces and marinades? No complaints on the chicken entree. Waiter was too informal (hey guys ya doin'?) and didn't know the daily soup special Had to ask another waiter who snapped at him. Overpriced considering lack of attention to quality ingredients and cooking. Too bad -- we've been neighborhood patrons for years. Please figure out what's going on in the kitchen and re-train the wait staff.
I booked Mistral well in advance to ensure we had a romantic outside table for our 25th anniversary. When we arrived there were no outside tables available and we were told we couldn't wait for one because they had placed three large Oracle groups out there. This was our first time but we will not go back. We even called ahead to let them know we were running 10 minutes late and they assured us it was no problem. They obviously knew then the table we reserved was not going to be available yet they didn't mention a word. To add insult to injury they even said 'yup we saw you said it was your anniversary in the reservation'. We didn't get a sorry from the hostess or manager. The waiter tried his best but he couldn't salvage a disappointing experience. I also ordered mussels and they were subpar - the rest of the food was great.
The night we went they seem very short handed. It took the waiter a while to get to us, they messed up on our orders and even though I asked them to put a candle on my daughter's dessert (which they agreed to do), they forgot to do it. Use to really like this place, sad to see it go downhill.
I was super disappointed by their service given we spent more than $300 for 4 adults and two kids. After being seated, nobody came to even offer us water or take our orders for drink for about 20 mins till we asked twice for service. Finally someone came to take our orders for drink and messed up the order by sending us a wine we picked by glasses instead of by bottle...have to ask him to take it back and bring us a bottle. When they bring the bottle for us to taste, the waiter spilled some of the wine on the table while pouring the first glass, which is very unprofessional, and that was a $80/bottle wine...I used to be a regular customer of this restaurant, but now I doubt I will ever be back there again.
Mistral has always been a "dependable"go-to place for me and my girlfriends to meet at for dinner. We could usually rely on the food and service. But the last dining experience we had wasn't so great. That night, we decided to all order Mistral's signature dish, the grilled skirt steak. Don't know if it's just an off night for the chef, but while the steaks were cooked according to our specifications, the teriyaki glaze was really salty, I had to eat more carbs than I'd normally eat just to neutralize the salt. The veggies that accompanied the dish were undercooked to the point of being tough to eat. The green beans seemed old and stringy. The tap water that they give on the table was lukewarm. The cafe mocha I got at the end was tepid. Luckily we were more intent on catching up, but the food (and the lack of attention to quality) was not what we have come to expect from Mistral. Might have to take Mistral off our go-to places list.
Found Mistral with some searching of the typical places. I don't trust all the ratings since some from certain sites are fixed but this seemed to live up to most of what was said based on three separate sites. Nice place for a business dinner as it was during the week. I could see this place getting crowded on the weekends. The scallops looked great. The flank steak was disappointing. The Caesar salad was good as where the spring rolls and calamari. Will likely return. Thanks!
