   Scallops, oysters, steak and wild bass for a Friday night treat after a long hard week. Skirt steak cooked rare. Then a panacotta with rhubarb to share. Bliss. Friendly service. Good choice of wines.

   Excellent sunday roast,with cauliflower cheese souffle as starter and californian Pinot noir. Great service from Donna. Watch out for the new tables in the back room though, Nowhere near as nice as the main room

   We had a booking at 18:00 and were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived. Despite only being a couple we were sat at a table for four at the back of the restaurant next to a walkway and the cellar. This had to be pretty much the worst table in the restaurant, it was far from the view at the windows and the staff were constantly brushing past and regularly going in and out of the cellar door. I doubt that this is a point that is not obvious to the waiters and with the restaurant totally empty and plenty of other tables available I am not sure why they would have chosen to put us here. We asked if we could move to a table closer to the window and after a wait of a few minutes we were moved to a nicer table. Since this table was close to the entrance and sat the same number of people as the one we vacated, it is difficult to see why we were walked passed this table to the back of the restaurant when we could have been sat there in the first place. I thought the food was very good and the service following the move was OK. Although not particularly friendly it wasn't bad either. We weren't made to feel very welcome and for this reason I won't be returning but the food was good so would recommend it for others on that alone.

   Superb cuisine and service as usual at this excellent restaurant. The menu is full of fresh and exciting dishes using locally sourced ingredients. The ambience is relaxed and friendly. The little members of our party. aged 3 and 1, were very well catered for too.

   The food was nicely presented, and very tasty. the staff were on hand for anything you required and very polite and well presented. I would defiantly recommend this establishment for any occasion and will be dinning again very soon.

   First time at the Mistley Thorn, Went with some friends for a birthday lunch on a friend's recommendation. It was a Saturday lunch time and there were 4 adults and 1 child in our party. We arrived at 1:30 and actually had our meal at 2:45! There was a large party that had ordered before us, but the wait was a bit too long to be honest... The food was worth waiting for but I would be reluctant to bring a group again.

   We dine regularly at The Thorn and always have an enjoyable evening. The food is very good if not exceptional. Particularly good is the wide choice of fish options, which is very much the restaurant's claim to fame. As regular diners it's noticeable that whilst the starters and mains rotate the dessert menu remains rather static. Again you'd probably only have an issue with this if you dined with regularity. Having said that all options are excellent. Particularly welcome is the buttermilk panacotta with berries. Food arrives at satisfactory intervals and the bread plate with oil is always packed with excellent fresh bread. On the visit in question I felt we waited a little too long for our drinks to arrive, the order having been taken in timely fashion. On the whole though, service is excellent with a professional, experienced and friendly staff. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced. Additional benefit must be the Adnams on tap for your fish 'n chip supper! In terms of general ambience I can't fault The Thorn. The restaurant is a lovely building and they make the absolute most of its inherent charm. Constant efforts are made to improve the dining experience including building enhancements and internal decor. Overall recommended. You shouldn't be disappointed.

   Lovely atmosphere (even though the restaurant was quiet - 4pm on Sunday), delightful staff, excellent service and delicious food ... I had mussels and the other 3 in our party all had fish (each different) - delicious!! Would definitely recommend/go there again.

    table presented well, staff young friendly and attentive. Price for food was relatively high but the food quality was good enough to go with the price tag. FIsh hits the spot. Sardine and WHole sole was well presented and cooked. Wine a tad pricy for the labels on offer. Afogatto for dessert was lovely but £6 was pushing it for a scoop of vanilla and an expresso. Breakfast following morning was a good affair. good coffee which always helps
