Mission Rock Resort Ratings and Reviews
We have found Mission Rock to be the ideal place to meet our SF friends (we are on the Peninsula). Convenience aside, it enjoys a killer setting and you get your water fix here, with interesting harbor and shipyard views. They have a high quality menu, bar, and selection, and the servers are top notch. We always enjoy our visits, and return frequently.
I have been here twice--once for lunch and once for dinner. Here's what I like:
1. The views are nice if you can sit outside on a nice day. The dry dock does get in the way a bit but given the right table, the views of Oakland, Mt Diablo, the Bay, etc.. far out shadow the ugly dry-dock.
2. They have a great oyster selection. I like to order those from the West Coast and/or local No Cal. Why buy oysters that needed a long plane ride to get here when there are so many local choices.
3. The portions for the apps are generous. The bruschetta and manila clam apps for example could be small meals in themselves.
4. You got to try the bread pudding. Yum!
Here's what has been a little hit or miss:
1. They seem understaffed given the long wait times to order and get served. I must say that my server on the last go round acknowledged this and made it right. But it has been slow both times...
2. Parking can be a bit of a hassle and the area is a bit sketchy at night.
Come here for the view on the upstairs outside patio. The food is fish and chips style fare... Nothing awesome or revolutionary, but nothing beats a glass of white wine over looking the bay on a hot day. Pretty empty during the week but gets busy on the weekend.
I was so excited to find this place because it's puppy friendly! We went to celebrate 3 family birthdays. The food was good. But our waitress was a pill. Speaking as a past server myself I expect to get the service I would give. Not only was she unfriendly her face showed her complete displeasure with waiting on us. She tacked on an 18% gratuity to our party of 6, which she didn't deserve! Kinda ruined what could've been a great bday brunch. I won't be back. :(
If I'm going to SF then Mission Rock Resort will be part of the plan. The service was great, attentive without being intrusive. Every dish I've tried there has been great but I especially enjoy the Dungenous Crab Eggs Benedict. My friend tried the Berry compote French Toast and bacon - she couldn't stop saying yummmm!
I really like to come here. The scenerie is so different cool with the old and rusty shipyards in front of you. Doesn't feel like being in SF, but it is the other face of SF. Food and service are great .It's a one of a kind place to be relaxed and have a good time with your friends.
I prefer eating lunch there. do not eat fish or dairy. The fish tacos at lunch are excellent, but at night they are albi steered, i.e. mostly raw.
salmon entrée looked beautiful but I did not like the taste of the salmon. It was a bit on the dry side and the topping was too olive-y for me
we had to ask for water several times, and when they finally brought us another carafe it was half-full even though we were a table of four
The view is stupendous and I return for the view
We loved sitting by the water, looking out to the ship yard and experiencing Happy Hour! Every one was really friendly and let us choose between two tables when we showed up a little early for our reservation. The dollar oysters are AMAZING! We aren't sure if we loved the oysters, drinks and herb fries so much that our actual meals weren't AS exciting, but that could be the oysters talking :) Definitely will be back for hh!
This place used to be Kelly's Mission Rock. Infamously known for their fabulous and over-packed brunch electronic music parties. That is gone now and so is the soul of what was. Revisiting for lunch was nice on the back patio by the bay. The food is OK. I had the Oyster Sliders on what looked (and tasted) like White Castle buns. High class...right? The restaurant was less than 10% full. The boredom on the employees faces not only reflected the lack of business, but also how I felt from dining there.
A San Fran hidden gem. Don't want everyone to know what a charming spot on the water front this place is. My Pit bull girl gets the 5 star treatment here which means a lot to me .
Great spot for oysters and champagne or oysters and an IPA.
The servers were awesome.
We really enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the bay. Service was good and got us out quickly so we could get to our event. My gin and tonic was weak, but the house wine was fine. The food missed the mark. The perfectly cooked salmon was sandwiched between a baba ghanoush and a salty tapenade and the flavors did not work together. The risotto cake and baby carrots were good. Hubby's fish and chips were a partial disappointment because the batter on the fish was greasy. I'd say go for a glass of wine, the raw bar and the view and skip the meal.
Everything from the raw bar is delicious, but our favorites are the citrus prawns and crab. From the regular menu we fully enjoyed the herb shoestring fries, brussel sprouts, smoke salted artichoke, and the halibut. They offer inside and outside seating which both offer wonderful views of the Bay. In addition, the service is outstanding; drinks and food were delivered and retrieved quickly. We will definitely be back!
Mission Rock has built a great name for itself, and rightly so - the food is fresh and delicious, the signature cocktails are fun, and their happy hour menu is strong. Book ahead to guarantee seating after 6pm, it's a busy after work hang out spot, especially on Thursdays and game days.
I have been here twice, for Happy Hour with co-workers from UCSF, and have really had a great experience.
The house wines are good and the .99 cent oysters have NEVER disappointed! I also had the clam chowder and it was delicious! It had just the right balance of everything.
I love the outdoor dock but sitting inside on a more chilly evening was as great. Nice atmosphere throughout.
This was my first time to Mission Rock and I can wholeheartedly say I will be back again. Menu covered enough of the standards so as not to disappoint your run-of-the-mill seafood options, while at the same time throwing in some really delicious gems for those more adventurous. We had the trout salad (absolutely recommend) and fish & chips - a little from each end of the spectrum - and enjoyed it all. Outdoor seating on the patio on a beautiful sunny day - this place is hard to beat.
We were a group of five. We were seated immediately in a window seat. It was happy hour for drinks and oysters of which we did partake. Oysters were delicious. Our server was excellent. We were able to get out in time the see the Giants-Dodgers game. Giants won. Yippee!
Overall experience was really wonderful. I recommend Mission Rock Resort.
Consistentky excellent. I have had many meals at Mission Rock Resort and always enjoyed every bite. After lunching under one of their yellow umbrellas and watching the sun shimmer on the water I feel as if I have been away on a vacation. There is really no more beautiful place than San Francisco and this restaurant epitomizes it.
When friends come from out of town this is the place I take them.
