The food was good. Eggs cooked to perfection. The "huge" mimosa was fantastic (I chose grapefruit and pomegranate). French toast was nice. Overall a nice brunch date- I wouldn't go out of my way for it again and the wait/line can be crazy so I wouldn't wait.

Venture beyond their famous burger (yep, it's that good) and into other
items on the menu and you'll be glad you did.
Just had their short rib pot pie, likely the closest to heaven I'll ever get!

Great food - truly terrible service; I don't mind slow at all, but this was slow and completely negligent. I actually observed another couple storm out because it had been so long since anyone had checked-in with them. The waiter apologized a lot (perhaps something was happening behind the scenes), but made no change in his service. I assumed we might get a free dessert or small comp on the check for what was clearly a situation that needed to be addressed. But no - just the waiter saying, "Oh you want to get out of here probably," when we waved him down for the check 30 minutes after asking about dessert (which we planned to order and he never came back to follow-up on). Yikes.

The place started to look tired, tables need to be refinished. Not very organized. Two of the dishes had identical sides, flavors could be made more distinct.

It has been years since I have been here. It has changed moderately but still very good, there were interesting and tasty things on the menu. I selected well, my husband was a bit disappointed in his choice, he discovered he did not like Jack Fruit as much as he thought. but it tasted good. I had a really interesting beer, Saison Dolores, much fruitier than any beer I ever had, not that big a beer drinker though. the service was really good, he seemed to be alone for quite a number of tables and managed well. I have moved this back to be remembered an go to place.

It was terrible. I've eaten here for years but this time was the final time. Not only was the restaurant empty but there was one server named Rodney who didn't clean tables, kinda loosely asked if we needed anything, and then proceed to take his break and eat at the table across from us.

I used to love this spot, but it's becoming pretty run down and unfortunately that's reflected in both the food and the furniture. The wait staff was not very attentive or friendly, for some reason they are not willing to re-cover their chairs (they are completely torn up), and the food was mediocre: the lobster ravioli was under cooked and came out cold and the mushroom salad was totally uninspired, but I have no complaints about the flat bread. It feels like Mission Beach has gone through a bad breakup and lost the benefit of a woman's touch.

We visited on Saturday for a quiet dinner on our first date. We chose a quiet table in the back corner so we could talk, ordered the lobster ravioli and the halibut and shared both dinners. Excellent. The staff was very cordial and the service was great. Highly recommend.

I come to this restaurant a lot because of it's eclectic menu of things I would never make for myself. This time we had the seafood stew as an entree and the chicken. Chicken was less crispy than usual possibly because we were dining on the late side. Service was lovely as usual. This place is a real neighborhood gem and the clientele is just as captivating as the food.

Beer selection was fantastic.

I have not been to Mission Beach in a good deal of time. I was happy that their level of food has been maintaned. We had the fresh vegetable medley, the Israeli couscous mac and cheese, and the Chicken. All were fresh, well seasoned, and looked appealing when they arrived. The portion sizes could be bigger. The only reason I did not give some of the areas a five is because they serve "NO BREAD!" I have to say I was really surprised by this. They have a great bakery on site and several of the dishes had wonderful sauces. The sauces were taken away and not eaten because there was nothing to sop them up with. Given the price points I felt like I was slightly cheated by paying for something I could not enjoy.

Oddly land-locked for a restaurant with 'Beach' in its name, it was nevertheless a fine dining experience in both senses of the word. Low key vibe and ambience, varied menu, and outstanding service all make this place one I am am sure to visit again.

We love this restaurant and generally have a wonderful experience there, but this time the service was really bad and the staff didn't seem to acknowledge it. If you have never been I would give it a try as the food is very good, but the service, I guess is iffy now.

Great food, bad service. Didn't get water refills until 30 minutes into the meal. Told me 20 minutes after ordering that they ran out of my item. Then gave me a new item but served it 10 minutes after the rest of my party got their food. Everything tasted great, but the service made for an unpleasant experience.

I haven't been to MB in almost 5 years and it was the burger every time I went. this time I opted to resist the burger and try other things on the menu and they were awesome (dumplings, rabbit pot pie and halibut). my only gripe was the portions were VERY small and the server didn't tell us that the kitchen was closing or we would have ordered more.

Used to be great. Now? Not at all. Food was sub par, and service terrible - even though we were one of four tables in the restaurant for dinner. Now I know why it was so easy to get a Friday night reservation last minute. Hope the place gets its groove back!

excellent creative food. The only difficulty is remembering not to gorge in order to save room for pie. The sour cherry pie alone is worth the visit.

I love the rabbit pot pie, but it wasn't as good this time, I think it's because there was too much spinach in the pie. But I still took half of it home and ate it the next day.

My favourite meal in San Francisco was here! Let me start with the SAVOURY BREAD PUDDING--heaven on a plate...colour, flavour, texture--just wow! I followed with the MBC RABBIT PIE--poor rabbit, you were so tasty, and there was a good bake on the pastry. Loved the entire dining experience, made even better by fun discussions with our server.

We typically dine out quite a bit and I can confidently say that I haven't had a meal this delicious and memorable in awhile! Our server was also very friendly and helpful during the entire dinner.

From the starters (the truffle fries and pearl couscous mac & cheese are top notch) to the main dishes (we all loved the pan seared sablefish, rabbit potpie, lobster ricotta ravioli, and lamb shank) to the great wine selection, Mission Beach Cafe provided us with an extremely satisfying experience. Unfortunately, we were too full to try any dessert but the pie selection on the dessert menu looked superb.

We'll definitely be back for more dinners and, hopefully, brunch (get there early, otherwise you're going to have to wait awhile).

'Tired'
It's been a long time since I've been to Mission Beach Cafe so I thought we'd go back for another dinner with some friends from out of town. The owner/management has let all the things that created hype for this place when it first open slip away. The furniture was 'tired', the bathroom looked like something from a late night bar (think EndUp). The whole place needs to be freshened up. The staff, although scarce, were nice but overworked so didn't visit our table as frequently as we would have liked. For example, we had to get their attention each time we needed more water, wine, pepper and the bill. They were happy to accommodate but hey, isn't it nice when they actually have time to check in with the table? There is simply too much competition for good food in this city to pay the prices we paid for a mediocre experience.

I LOVE MISSION BEACH CAFE - it is original in vision, delicious, great care is taken with the menu, the preparation, the wine choices, and more. Really, it's hard to think of a better place for dinner with someone you care about or work with or you are just meeting.
Don't overlook the truffle fries. Or the Brussels. And the Vegetarian creation each night is always extraordinary.

We're a gay couple and came here for date night. He got the Pan Roasted Chicken and I got the Rabbit Pot Pie. Both were excellent in flavor and presentation. Portions were generous.

We started with the brussels sprouts with purple carrot puree. The flavor was very complex and subtle, with the sweetness of the carrot pairing well with the salty savory sprouts.

For dessert we had the sour cherry pie with ice cream. Really top drawer.

The alcohol menu looked really appealing, but we opted for caffeine instead.

WOULD COME BACK WITHOUT HESITATION!

PS: Loved seeing a good contingent of other gay clientele being served there, too.

I think we must have been there when the service was off. The New Years Eve dinner we booked had a great looking menu - it was a pre fixe menu, which had good choices.
But something got messed up and our main dishes arrived. They even forgot a course from the table next to us.

The wait staff was over stretched, and I was disappointed they did not offer to correct the problem when mentioned, only apologized. Which is frustrating when you pay so much for a special night out.

Otherwise a very nice meal and an imaginative menu.
