Mrs. K's Toll House Ratings and Reviews
I wish there were more stars to give this restaurant & our experience!!! Beginning with the staff -- We were pleasantly greeted by the hostess when we walked in and received impeccable and attentive service from our waiter & the manager, Katy. We took a tour of the house and each room has it's own bit of character making the experience even more unique. Lastly, the food was AMAZING!! We were surprised & excited to see all of the seafood included in the brunch. Definitely worth the $$!! We look forward to visiting again, when the garden is in bloom.
Went here on a Thursday night for dinner. It is a very unique restaurant with an intimate dining setting. Ended up sitting at the bar which is nice with a great brick setting. Very comfortable. Had salmon bites with are tender and well flavored. Ended up getting the Caesar salad with a side of the mixed mushrooms which were absolutely delicious. Excellent wine selection and great bartenders capable of making a number of drinks properly (such as their old fashioned). Will definitely be back!
Good food and service. We didn’t realize it was buffet only on Sunday so it was a little more pricey than we were looking for a Brunch/Lunch, but everything we had was excellent. It would have been nice to be informed of the brunch pricing by our waiter beforehand, we would’ve taken them up on the included mimosas.
Food was really really good!!! 5 Stars to that! There was more of an older crowd here for Sunday brunch, as me being more on the younger side, came here with my family. Our waiter, not sure what her name was but only came 3 times on her own other times we HAD to get her attention. But overall would ONLY come again for the food.
My mom & I enjoyed the food & atmosphere. This was our first time here celebrating my birthday. My only issue was a lot of the food that was suppose to be hot was barely lukewarm. My last issue I was over charged for my 5 year olds meal. I do hope I'm able to get that corrected. Those were the only 2 issues I had. Really enjoyed the place.
We three had a delightful time at lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The food was very good, the ambiance was lovely, the charm of memories/history/antiques added to the pleasure. In particular, we want to commend our waiter, Christian, for his excellent service and his overall manner of making sure we had what we wanted. A couple of us changed our minds during ordering, which didn't ruffle him a bit. And it seemed that anything we asked for (as in "Could I have some butter? Could I get a cup of coffee?" etc.) was met with a pleasant "Yes." Overall, it was a very memorable experience, and we look forward to more.
My parents have been coming to Mrs. Kay's for over 50 years. As such, we took my mother for her 77th birthday. While the atmosphere is great, we were seated tightly with other patrons while other tables were not used, Mrs. Kay's staff could have easily used the other tables to allow for more space and filled in if more people came. While the food was good...that is all I can rate it as. Over the years, I've noticed the menu going from exceptional to good.
We're traveling and wanted classic Mid-Atlantic cuisine. This was perfect. We were impressed with the high quality of the ingredients (crab, fresh mushrooms, lamb) and the thoughtful preparation that showcased the freshness of the food. The service was attentive and friendly. Absolutely delightful meal.
Mrs K's is a favorite of mine for getting together with a friend or guest. The ambience is always just right, upscale but not stuffy.
I do not know why this restaurant insists on serving microwaved brown 'n serve rolls to accompany such flavorful, carefully prepared entrees. The bread is really an insult to the cuisine and fine dining atmosphere.
Still, the service is great; striking an excellent balance of humor and dignity.
The well tended gardens are sure to make the diner forget about those hideous microwaved rolls long enough to savor the experience.
Very disappointed with Mrs. K's this time around. It seems every time I go there the service and decor continues on a downward spiral. This time we were seated in a dank basement backroom near the kitchen. Floor was made of bricks, and were wet. There was a plastic sandwich bag behind my wives chair in the corner -- no one bothered to pick it up. There were two types of music playing, reggae music coming from the kitchen, and some other type music in the room we were dining in. (very distracting). My wife's crab cakes, although plentiful, were extremely dry. My scallops were prepared with squash risotto. The risotto was painfully al dente, not at all creamy and smooth.
There were fruit flies constantly buzzing around us, very unsettling. Dust and grime were on most of the fixtures hanging from the ceiling. There were ugly, rusted, exposed water and sewer pipes visible in the unfinished ceiling. A little too rustic for what is billed as an "elegant" dining establishment.
And to make matters worse, I was charged $2 extra for a Scotch that I ordered "neat"? Ordering a drink "neat" means no ice. So, ordering my drink WITH NO ICE cost me an extra $2!!!
I was a teenager in the 1970's when I first went to Mrs. K's. In the 70's and 80's, it was really a great place to eat. But lately, over the past 10 years or so, Mrs. K's has continued to disappoint.
Save your time and money, Mrs. K's just isn't worth going to any longer.
Went for the Sunday Brunch which is a buffet and the food was amazing. Excellent suggestion. Ambiance is very unique - highly recommend for someone who likes antiques. There seemed to be an assumption that everyone knows what to do once seated - which is kind of awkward if its your first time there (like mine). No one approached our table for a while and you have to go to different rooms to find different selections which also was not obvious. Other than that hiccup - it was first rate
Second trip to this location; general brunch menu with several seafood options, omelet station and waffle station. had a reservation when the restaurant opened; friendly servers greeted us promptly. A bit disappointed that the bread options were not warm and the plates were cold. Otherwise, a good assortment of options for brunch, from breakfast fare to very good baked spicy chicken wings. the bread pudding for dessert was very good. The last time that I came I was seated at 12:30; the same options were available. I will certainly come back again; the price is reasonable for the options.
We went to celebrate my wife's birthday. There was a wedding reception on the lower level that was quite noisy. At our request, the hostess seated us in another dining room that was much quieter. The food was excellent. Even though we did not ask for dessert, the server brought us a piece of cake with a candle for the birthday.
The food was good but the environment and service were not. There was a wedding going on which was seperated from the restaurant by a black curtain. The base from the DJ was so loud that it was hard to hear to have a conversation at our table. There was only two of us but our food did not arrive at the same time. I was very disappointed with my experience.
We were celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary and they made it extremely special. The food was delectable, the view of their grounds was lovely, and the ambiance was romantic. We will definitely plan another special occasion with mrs. k’s again in the future!
Delicious food. Excellent service. Mrs. K's was my parents' favorite restaurant so I've been coming there off and on for decades. My husband and I even had our wedding rehearsal dinner there. The food we had Sat. was delicious, reasonably priced. The wait staff was efficient and pleasant. And the garden is lovely.
Sat outside on the back patio on a beautiful early Sept night - the tranquil setting more than made up for the occasional bug taking an interest in our meal. Food was well prepared and of good quality, if a bit modestly proportioned and fully priced (although the tartar tacos appetizer was a very good value!), and the service was pleasant and attentive. Overall, an above-average experience and we will return.
My wife and I visited last Sunday for our 12th anniversary. In fact, it was important to have dinner at Mrs K's as it was the place of my proposal/engagement to her. So, it holds a special place to us. I also held a surprise group dinner 6 years ago to celebrate a graduation. Nevertheless, the positive last Sunday was the memory, ambience and excellent customer service. Unfortunately, the meal itself, specifically, my wife's Summer Medley did not meet expectations. I tasted it as well and shared the negative reaction that my wife had. The waitress replaced this with an appetizer. The service of the waitress was outstanding and professional. The salmon was well portioned. We focused on the occasion and we would like to return in the future; however, with so many dining choices with guaranteed gastro culinary satisfaction, it could be difficult.
Always enjoy when I dine there. This is first I was disappointed -- my family arrived before me I came from an event so I was 1/2 late for brunch 2:30pm. Was told that the restaurant was closing an hour earlier (3:00pm) because of several weddings being held that same day. I was told I needed to hurry before food was taken down. I felt rushed so I declined the brunch altogether and just got a cup of coffee. If I wanted more food would not have been able to get any because of the early closure. Should have been told when reservation was made. Wanted to sit and relax with my family who came from Baltimore. Hope it does not happen again. Will still dine there because the food/brunch is wonderful.
