Mrs. K's Toll House Ratings and Reviews
I came here on Thursday for lunch with friends. The food and the atmosphere were really good but unfortunately there was a slight mix up with what was ordered. However the food was so good that it made uo for the error in two of the orders. I would definitely come here again for lunch.
This was my first visit to Mrs. K's. The atmosphere was great, service was attentive. I wasn't happy with the presentation and quality of the entree- shrimp squash risotto. We ordered 3 of them and they all looked different, portion size was inconsistent and it arrived at a little above room temperature. I was hosting my team for a holiday luncheon and the decorations in the restaurant made it festive.
First, I must confess . . . I ate too much. I'm weak. Tyron, our server was engaging and extremely professional and attentive. The food selection and quality was excellent. The entire experience, as always, was a flawless joy. We introduced new friends on this visit and they share our enthusiasm about the experience. Kathy, the manager, was very friendly, informative, attentive and professional. Our favorite place to brunch . . . by far!!!!!!!
Everything was satisfactory but our meal It was a BIG disappointment. We ordered our filet medium well and it was very done. We substituted a loaded baked potato for mashed. A baked potato with sour cream and bacon bits does not qualify for loaded. The asparagus -3 spears-were cold. We expected a better meal and based on what we received it was over priced.
Because of its storied reputation, I selected Mrs. K's Toll House for a friend's birthday dinner. After an evening with two of us, I reached the conclusion that its former reputation is now richly undeserved. While the ambiance was cozy the décor was dated.
The service was quite pedestrian at best. While the outside temperature was in the low-40's we had to ask that a fire be started in the fireplace in front of our table. There was no ground pepper on the table, or offered. This all the start of a virtual litany of disconnect and poor service.
The preparation of my guest's duck was more akin to sashimi. My stuffed baked potato to three rounds to get an acceptable product. One good thing, in the aftermath of our dining experience I received a call from the receptionist informing me my guest had left his phone on the table. This timely action allowed us to turn around and pick-up his phone in a prompt manner. Their gesture was greatly appreciated.
Nevertheless, the check was over $100 for two, and that's with only one appetizer, one complimentary dessert, and no wine or drinks. So, for money spent I wouldn't rate it as a good value.
I arrived a little early and was sitting outside enjoying the scenery and one Hostess came out to see if I had a reservation and I said and I stated that I was waiting for the rest of my party. A few minutes later another Hostess came out to find out where I wanted to be seated because of my disability and I asked how many steps to the food and I chose to be close to the food and I really enjoyed the experience because it was my first time there. The food was hot and well seasoned and plentyful. The presentation was great. Our server Damon was pleasant, a lot of fun and I enjoyed how he was right there even before we asked. I look forward to my next visit.
We went to Mrs. K's on the Thanksgiving weekend based on great reviews for the Sunday brunch and were quite disappointed. The house itself is lovely, and I can imagine it would be a much more appealing setting on a cold evening without so many children, harried servers and other customers milling about. Brunch included a watery and tasteless Bloody Mary that was almost undrinkable. The buffet offerings were extensive but generally uninspiring. We loved the idea of shrimp and crab, but both seemd a bit mushy and not very fresh. The bacon and eggs were excellent, but you can get those anywhere. I will say that the desserts were excellent. The service was excellent, but the servers seemed overworked and a bit harried, which did not make for a relaxing environment. I won't be returning for brunch, but I may give dinner a try.
After living in Silver Spring and even driving past Mrs. K's regularly, I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't eat here sooner. I took my Fiance here for a date and the staff was so welcoming. When we walked in the front door, the hostess was even excited that we arrived since she had picked out a special table for us by the fireplace (I booked through OpenTable and noted that it was a date night). Our server was sophisticated, courteous and provided great recommendations from the menu. The restaurant is basically an old house and the decor and setting makes you completely forget that you're anywhere near the city, which we loved. The drinks and food were delicious and we will be back again.
I wish there were more stars to give this restaurant & our experience!!! Beginning with the staff -- We were pleasantly greeted by the hostess when we walked in and received impeccable and attentive service from our waiter & the manager, Katy. We took a tour of the house and each room has it's own bit of character making the experience even more unique. Lastly, the food was AMAZING!! We were surprised & excited to see all of the seafood included in the brunch. Definitely worth the $$!! We look forward to visiting again, when the garden is in bloom.
Went here on a Thursday night for dinner. It is a very unique restaurant with an intimate dining setting. Ended up sitting at the bar which is nice with a great brick setting. Very comfortable. Had salmon bites with are tender and well flavored. Ended up getting the Caesar salad with a side of the mixed mushrooms which were absolutely delicious. Excellent wine selection and great bartenders capable of making a number of drinks properly (such as their old fashioned). Will definitely be back!
Good food and service. We didn’t realize it was buffet only on Sunday so it was a little more pricey than we were looking for a Brunch/Lunch, but everything we had was excellent. It would have been nice to be informed of the brunch pricing by our waiter beforehand, we would’ve taken them up on the included mimosas.
Food was really really good!!! 5 Stars to that! There was more of an older crowd here for Sunday brunch, as me being more on the younger side, came here with my family. Our waiter, not sure what her name was but only came 3 times on her own other times we HAD to get her attention. But overall would ONLY come again for the food.
My mom & I enjoyed the food & atmosphere. This was our first time here celebrating my birthday. My only issue was a lot of the food that was suppose to be hot was barely lukewarm. My last issue I was over charged for my 5 year olds meal. I do hope I'm able to get that corrected. Those were the only 2 issues I had. Really enjoyed the place.
We three had a delightful time at lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The food was very good, the ambiance was lovely, the charm of memories/history/antiques added to the pleasure. In particular, we want to commend our waiter, Christian, for his excellent service and his overall manner of making sure we had what we wanted. A couple of us changed our minds during ordering, which didn't ruffle him a bit. And it seemed that anything we asked for (as in "Could I have some butter? Could I get a cup of coffee?" etc.) was met with a pleasant "Yes." Overall, it was a very memorable experience, and we look forward to more.
My parents have been coming to Mrs. Kay's for over 50 years. As such, we took my mother for her 77th birthday. While the atmosphere is great, we were seated tightly with other patrons while other tables were not used, Mrs. Kay's staff could have easily used the other tables to allow for more space and filled in if more people came. While the food was good...that is all I can rate it as. Over the years, I've noticed the menu going from exceptional to good.
We're traveling and wanted classic Mid-Atlantic cuisine. This was perfect. We were impressed with the high quality of the ingredients (crab, fresh mushrooms, lamb) and the thoughtful preparation that showcased the freshness of the food. The service was attentive and friendly. Absolutely delightful meal.
