About Miso Izakaya

Izakaya literally means "stay sake shop." They were traditionally down-to-earth places where men drank sake and beer after work--essentially a Japanese-style tavern. As in Japan, we offer a comfortable style of dining centered around sharable plates and a variety of drinks, including sake, shochu, beer and cocktails. Our food changes seasonally, adhering to fundamentals of Japanese food while offering a unique take on traditional dishes. Enjoy yourself, relax, and linger with good friends, good food and good drinks.

This is my favorite sushi location in Atlanta! Our server had good wine recommendations, and was very nice.

Great place all around...except for the music choice. Big detriment to the otherwise great atmosphere. Didn't fit at all. It was like 80s hits in a low-lit, hip, urban sushi place.

We tried four different dishes and they all was absolutely terrible. They even sold us and poured coke products from a can and charged us $2 per can. Most importantly, the food was pricey and absolutely terrible.

Miso Izakaya has always been one of our favorite restaurants in Atlanta. It is a cozy little Izakaya with a manageable menu so you can try everything. My daughter claims their sushi is the best in Atlanta hands-down. They have a great cocktail program as well. We have never had a meal that we didn’t absolutely love here

I made reservations for two and upon arrival was placed a two person topper that was so close to the next table that I felt like I was engaged in their conversation. There were plenty of other available tables that were not situated as closely together but I was told they were reserved. In fact, I was presented with no other options. This greatly disturbed me because my dinner engagement involved some very sensitive issues and I did not want the people at the adjacent tables to hear every word I spoke.
After looking around the restaurant for a solution, again our waiter or the hostess did not offer a solution, I asked to sit at the end of th sushi bar.
Absolutely not customer friendly!

It was quick. Server didn’t know what the dishes were. I didn’t get offered anything. It was an in and out experience. There was no one at the restaurant. Only one other table there.

we’ve been to Miso several times before. This experience was just ok. The server wasn’t welcoming and they were out of 3 cocktails (out of 7). Sushi was also ok, nothing more.

Poor service. We waited 52 minutes for 16 pieces of sushi and weren't consistently waited on by our server. Several other wait staff had to help with our orders and refills for drinks. The host staff is always rude each time I come to this restaurant, which is especially disappointing because the food and drinks are above average. I'm not sure why this place is so pretentious in Edgewood, but my friends have actually told me they won't dine with me anymore at this restaurant. I was told by the host that would need to be done eating in 45 minutes because another table was behind me and had a reservation...even though I had a reservation myself. I've never been told that at a restaurant before. The restaurant just needs an attitude adjustment...especially for this neighborhood.

I'd been meaning to go to Miso's for a while but waited until the Holiday break to appreciate the great Sushi that my friends had all talked about. Well worth the wait and impeccable presentation, very tasty and will go back there again!

I love sushi and I am always on the lookout for great Japanese food. The sushi was amazing at this restaurant. My wife does not like sushi but she had a great meal with the crab noodles and eggplant. Excellent food.

My party of six was squeezed into a table for four. When asked if we could have the larger table by the bar, we were told that it was reserved for a party of 8. We were there for over three hours and when we left the larger table by the bar was still empty. Very disappointing.

Miso was on my running route for years. I never thought to try it. For some reason, I thought Miso was super expensive and only appropriate for special occasions. I was so wrong! My wife and I walked here for dinner last night. The food was amazing and the prices were totally reasonable! I will definitely eat here again soon.

Have always enjoyed my whole experience at Miso. They have had my favorite drink, Unsung Hero, but no longer feature it or are even willing to make it. Never had that experience at an establishment before. Has colored by experience negatively.

What a surprise this restaurant was! It was selected for its proximity to Dad's Garage where we had tickets. After a superb meal, it became a "must come back here." Quick service, an interesting and well executed menu of Japanese cuisine, and a good bar make Miso Izakaya a great choice for an all occasion restaurant.

After a certain time, they dim the lights and turn up the music... which is fine but we have to use the flashlight on my phone to see the menu if we get there too late (old eyes.)

We enjoy Miso, love the food and they have good Sushi Chefs. We sit at the sushi bar if available
and enjoy Chef Sok very much.

Simply put, we were very excited to try this place out and our experience fell flat of expectations. Service was definitely the worst part - the table next to us was getting frustrated with their wait staff, having to ask for things multiple times, or follow up on food ordered. We were left without water often and our wait staff checked on us as they were juggling dirty dishes. The restaurant wasn't at capacity so I'm not sure if they were short staffed, but it just took forever to get anyone's attention, even after we asked for the check, and then were ready to pay. The food itself was OK. The Chawanmushi lacked a depth of flavor; the eggplant was overly sweet and and the sauce was pretty tacky (texture); the handrolls were good but the serving tray was put together backwards, so they almost fell off the table after they were served. The sushi rice was definitely on the chewier side, so if you don't like it when rice sticks to your teeth, this isn't for you. The fish was fresh and there was no fishy smell in the restaurant. I really liked the aesthetic/ambiance of the restaurant, very nice, with clean lines - but the hall outside of the bathroom, and the bathroom itself, were so treacherously dark. I can't imagine what it would be like to go to the bathroom when it was actually dark outside. We do want to give props to the menu design actually, it was a very clean, easy to read menu; we were really impressed with that.

When bad service ruins your meal... It began with the hostess who informed us that, even though we were the first party in an empty restaurant, the 3 of could not sit and order a drink at our table until the 4th person arrived. When we said we wanted to order drinks she told us we could go to the bar or talk to her manager. She was the LEAST welcoming hostess in the history of hostesses. I get it if you are busy but they were not. Additionally the bar changed the cocktail menu so all of our past favorites were gone. The new drinks were fair to terrible. Finally, our server disappeared without a trace too many times to count. Our food was good but bad service can ruin the whole experience. Bring back the classic Miso drinks in addition to trying out new ones, and hire and train better people.

Absolutely love this place! I don't leave reviews often, especially positive ones (sorry) but this is my favorite Japanese place in Atlanta and they deserve recognition. Service is great, food is fantastic. Duck buns, hand rolls, and Chirashi are my go-to but everything I've tried is just A+. The only thing I'm upset about is that it's becoming harder to get a reservation in prime time, but that's just because word is getting out on how great this restaurant is.

I strongly recommend against eating here. All the reviews about mediocre sushi and mediocre service are spot on, but that was not our biggest problem. I parked in the Mizo Izakaya lot, ate dinner with a friend, and then walked her off site. I returned within an hour, only to find that they had booted my car! I was charged $75, and Mizo Izakaya refused to do anything about it. Definitely never returning to such a subpar restaurant, and recommend that you avoid it as well.
