Fantastic sushi as always. My wife and I love this place and it is our go to for quality sushi. We absolutely loved the tempura shishito peppers. We will definitely be back.
The food was decent enough, but the service was unacceptable for our first time there. The waiter pretty much ignored us after bringing our drinks and appetizers. We were done for quite a while, waiting for him to come by since it was not very busy that evening, but he never did. We eventually had to flag him down to take our order. Also, the view to the back of the restaurant is very unflattering. There’s some kind of weird counter with lots of clutter on it. Don’t think we will return any time soon.
Love this restaurant. Fresh sushi, great service
Out of uni and Japanese ahj disappointed
Consistently the best sushi in Chicago. Mirai never disappoints.
Super let down. Food was below average and super expensive. Definitely not worth it.
Good sushi and sashimi and a nice lively scene. Good cocktails too
The food was so great! At first I thought it was pricy when looking at the menu, but the food is so good and the flavor combinations are well worth it. Very good for a date night - we sat outside and people watched as well. They are adamant about not using soy sauce on certain dishes, which I liked. They take their food and sushi seriously!
I booked for our anniversary dinner because I somehow had the impression via reputation that Mirai was a fabulous place with really great food. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The specialty rolls were very good (we had 4 of them), but the combination sashimi offering was nothing special. Seafood udon was good. I was expecting the slices to be of higher quality and was hoping the pieces might be a little bigger. Our server was very pleasant, but the overall service experience wasn't great. The hostess was very friendly but must have forgotten to check us in as she came over to our table after we were seated to ask for our name again. I think they forgot about our appetizer as we had to inquire about it, and it ended up coming out toward the end of our meal. When our table was wiped down after our plates were cleared, only half of the table was wiped - so half was "clean" and dry, the other half was not. We were considering ordering desert, but were given the bill without being asked if we wanted desert. The restaurant had a number of empty tables by then, so I don't think they were trying to turn the table. Overall, probably fine for your everyday neighborhood sushi night out or carryout, but I personally would not book again for a special occasion. I am pretty sure I mentioned it was our anniversary in the reservation note, but guess it didn't matter. Too bad. Without drinks, our bill was $250 for 4 people.
excellent food! pricey but worth it! best sushi i have has. great quality in the product and food preparation.
Loved the restaurant, food and service! Definitely a winner!!
Trying to hard to be interesting but missing the mark. Expensive for what you get -- the menu wasn't broad enough to feel like it was worth not having more of the basics.
We were in town from NYC for a conference. It was my first visit to Bucktown— cute neighborhood. The hostess greeted us warmly. The room downstairs seemed clean and minimal, and she astutely suggested that we dine upstairs in the livelier sake lounge. It was definitely more hi and darker. I liked that we looked down on the charming street from the table by the window. Service was very friendly. The food was good and innovative. I would have given a perfect score of the quality of the fish were a bit higher (firmer, cooler pieces). Mind you, I'm a toughen
critic because my favorites are Shuko ( the best), 15 East, Jewel Bakl, Morimoto, Sushi of Gari (omakase sushi bar upstairs and in Tribeca only!), Kuramazushi omakase, and the like. Those are in in a different price point altogether, so Mirai was very good for the price. We would definitely return. Try the tuna with mango salad appetizer. All the rolls were excellent, too. The Mizu No Shirabe is a personal favorite sake for the price point which I don't see often, so try that as well. It's very refreshing.
Had dinner here on a Saturday at 7pm with my husband. The weather was nice so we chose to be seated outside. Pleasantly, there was no wait time. Our waiter and the rest of the staff were attentive and prompt. We shared a bit of everything - the shishito tempura, spicy chicken lettuce wraps, tuna tartar, shrimp tempura roll and shrimp togarashi. Everything was great and came out in a perfectly timed fashion. Since we chose to dine out in the front patio area during the prime of Saturday evening, the noise level was a bit high from the street - motorcycles, scooters etc, but the people-watching was great. Seeing all the people walking with their pups was a nice little perk for me.
