Hmm, I am not sure how I feel about Mexican sushi chefs....there has been a change in ethnicity
since my last visit. Somehow, I expect Japanese sushi chefs. What would Jiro think? The years of training just to make the perfect rice.... somehow, a few months behind the sushi bar does not compute. I will take a pass....I prefer Japanese sushi chefs.

While I wasn't impressed, my wife thought it was very good. The staff didn't seem to be very organized and it took forever to get our order in. The people a few tables down came in much later, and was served well before we were. The first plate of sushi looked different that what I thought I ordered but I ate it anyway. As the night wore on, my wife and I became aware that the first dish I ate was someone else's order! Oh well.....I think that the quality is dependent on what is ordered. In the dark ages when I use to live in Chicago, seafood was always a "dicey" order given that shipping is not what it is like today. Overall, I would probably give it another try the next time I'm in Chicago

Small place, but nice atmosphere. We sat at the sushi bar. The food was good and reasonably priced. I’m happy we ate there.

Mirai Sushi - Gold Coast, in general, is a very good place when you want to try specialty rolls and a great variety of sashimi & nigiri. Sometimes service decreases a bit when its busy, but its normal. Since I come here very often, sometimes the host can get moody and my friends and I feel uncomfortable. It's a very small restaurant, I think around 24 seats in the whole restaurant so reserving a spot for a table is preferable, especially on weekends.

It is too bad that an exceedingly rude server made this a miserable experience. While the maki was top notch, the actions of the server were not only unprofessional, but downright rude. Inattentive, constantly running into the table and myself while serving, and spending additional time on other tables while ignoring our needs, I am not sure the exceptional food was worth the issues. Unfortunate. In the end, after paying, we chose to sit and enjoy our conversation, and our server took our bill holder back, looked inside, threw it, and glared at my guest in anger at, presumably, the 15% tip.

I have been both of Mirai's locations in Wicker Park and Gold Coast. While the Wicker location is much larger and has a more lively atmosphere, the Gold Coast location is perfect for an intimate dinner with family, friends or a date. The food is always phenomenal and the service is fantastic. I would recommend making a reservation, particularly for groups over two because the space is quite small.

The food is really great. The nigiri and togarashi are amazing. However, this place has a space problem. Every time I go there to eat, they make us wait for at least 15-20 minutes although we made reservations. Last time, they could not even give us a table and asked us to sit at the bar. The receptionist is not very polite. He seems resigned to the fact that he does not have enough tables for guests. He could be a little more welcoming.

Surly host, indifferent waiter. Food was high quality, but service was poor, bordering on hostile. Servers didn't know who got what or even which table to bring the food. We cancelled part of the order (a simple teka maki for a child) after a 25 minute wait.

Try dragonroll. You will never regret. I love the freshness of sashimi and quiet atmosphere. The one thing you should know is this place is very small.

As always, the food is a 10/10, but the service is so bad. We had a reservation, but didn't get seated until 25 minutes after our reservation time. Service is slow and not attentive. The food is so good though.

Service wasn't great: Rushes you out (probably required because of the limited space), didn't really talk to us about what was on offer, good, or on special, and didn't seem to want us there, which is a first for me. Mixed Drinks were terrible.

Ambiance is fine. There is no space, unless you're in the one table that is by itself.

That said, all of the food was fantastic and we'll continue to go back. There's no comparable Sushi restaurant within walking distance.

A great sushi restaurant delivering an authentic experience, i.e. just like the ones you'd find in Japan and Taiwan. This is probably the best sushi restaurant I've been to in the U.S., including those I visited in San Francisco. No new-age-y dishes. No fusion food. Come for the great food and stay for the ambience.

Mirai is a very small but elegant sushi bar with excellent, creative food and highly professional service. The ambience is modern and non-Japanese. Tables are comfortable and the sushi bar is attractive and busy. Our meal was delicious and the fish impeccably fresh and well prepared. The location is very convenient to the Chicago Gold Coast.

Disinterested service in an otherwise cozy restaurant;the food was certainly above par although there are many places nearby with similar cuisine and staff that attempt to make their patrons appear welcome. We have dined here twice while staying at the Hilton and returned a second time because of its convenient location.

We really wanted this place to be great since it is in our neighborhood. We came here on a Saturday night and asked to sit at the sushi bar and were accommodated. Although the quality of the food was very good (more traditional in style) and the staff was friendly, they were way too busy fulfilling takeout orders.

We had ordered the omakase and waited 20 minutes for the first course to arrive which was just a single piece of tako/octopus. The quality was good and so was the quality of the following dishes, but it took a while to get each course and there was no interaction with the busy chefs. They were preoccupied with filling plastic containers for takeout. We were never asked how much food we wanted and were notified when our last course was served rather than asked if we wanted more or not.

Next time I'd probably order takeout like everyone else, but then I'd feel bad about perpetuating the main problem of this restaurant.

The experience was OK. The food was very good and stood out from our evening. The service was OK, parking at the hotel is expensive, and there is little character to the restaurant. I would recommend this to someone looking for sushi in the area, but I highly recommend visiting the neighborhoods for better sushi experiences.
