Loved it. The live band was awesome!
The music was exciting, but the service less than stellar. I arrived for what was listed as a 9:30 set only to find out it started at 9pm. A bit of a bummer, so I had a drink. When we looked for the waiter, we couldn't find him. As the show was wrapping up, we saw him and beckoned him over. We started to order and he said the kitchen is closed. We were confused, since we had menus and he had taken our drink orders.
He said when the set is over the kitchen is closed. I asked why it wasn't mentioned when our drink orders were taken. Why didn't he come over to say last call. He just shrugged his shoulders and said the kitchen is closed.
We didn't get to experience the food, but now that we know their policy and that the times for the music aren't as listed on their site, we'll give it another try.
My wife and I really enjoyed the live music and fine dining experience while celebrating my wife's birthday. We would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great date night experience.
Minton's is a historic Harlem jazz spot that still has its chops. The food was good - I had a burger but there were more upscale entrees on the menu that looked good as they went by me to other tables - but you go there for the music, which was excellent. Comfortable well-designed setting, excellent sound, good sightlines. Monk and Miles and Dizzy and Bird played there. Their grit is gone, but you're listening to good music exactly where you should be.
Another fabulous night of great jazz and delicious food at Minton’s. Sunday featured Christopher McBride who always delivers delights on sax and puts together a great ensemble of talented musicians. Minton’s is an intimate personal and high quality musical and culinary experience to share with friends.
I can't tell for other dishes, but the food I had was first class, even by New York standard and I'm French/picky/used-to-great-food. I can't say but from a look it seems to me that their normal/cheaper dishes are more mainstream-good. So if you go, I recommend you don't save a few bucks by not getting the best available, that is kind of the point. Also nice to see reasonably priced wine (nothing spectacular, but well chosen). The ambiance (Monday evening) was quiet and of course the music was very nice (will depend on which evening and band, but generally well curated). I have been in a more busy night and ambiance and band was stellar.
The service is good (attentive but not too imposing, we had plenty of time to enjoy after dinner talk without being bothered by too much activity, sort of laid back while being classy).
Overall: delivers for a fancy occasion when you are ready to spend about 2x of a usual good dinner. You won't regret.
I love Minton's because of the amazing live performances. The drinks are also really good! However, this time I went I found that their menu changed and was rather plain. Their apps look great so I think next time we'll go for drinks and share a bunch of apps as the main plates were just okay for the price. I would still come back because I love the ambiance and the live performances!
Amazing place with great service and fantastic music! I’m not easy to please but job well done!
This was a great place to hang out for any occasion, my friend enjoyed his birthday, live jazz music n the food was excellent
We came for our anniversary dinner on a Friday night at 6:45 and the place was not packed (maybe people were still recovering from Valentine’s Day) but ambiance was great, very romantic and elegant without feeling stuffy or pretentious. The waitstaff was amazing. Everyone was super friendly and personable, from the hostess to the gentlemen pouring our water. And it was a young staff too, very professional and had great recommendations for food. We had the restaurant week prixe fix, which came with appetizer, entree and dessert. I got the salad (delicious), skirt steak (perfectly cooked though I wouldn’t have been upset if it was slightly bigger) with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes (buttery and delicious but not garlicky enough for me, and the tres leches (tasty but a tad on the sweet side). My fiancé got the empanadas (very tasty, I wish we had more), the salmon with grilled shrimp (cooked to perfection, perfect seasoning and best value in my opinion) and the brownie a la mode (warm, gooey and delicious, wish I ordered it). All in all a great value for $42 prixe fix price. Live jazz music was great. $15 cover added to your bill but totally worth it and a much better value than some of the seedier jazz bars with higher covers and not as nice ambiance. Would definitely go back again.
(Valentine's Day Review) A+++ from food, drinks, services...and THE MUSIC! I've never been to Minton's and of course I am going to head back...loved it all!
Perfect place for a date. The service was great. The live music was a lot of fun. The food was good. I would go back again!
Really noche place, good menu, really good live music, totaly recomended for someone looking for live jazz performances.
Amazing music! AMAZING food!!!
Best in Harlem!!
Have been here on 3 different occassions.
Food is pricey, but delicious! Our bill (for 2) fluctuates $220-250 (before tip)
Enjoyed the live jazz, yet sets are pretty short for a 15$ per person surcharge (+2 drink/food minimum).
Service is slow and inattentive.
Wait staff don't seem knowledgeable of their food items and cocktails.
There's lots of room for improvement in customer service.
Pros: Great food, ambiance, complimentary coat check
Cons: Poor service, high prices
We arrived and were seat quickly however, the placement was not the best for our party of 10 especially when we made reservations. The band and ambiance was really nice. We ordered our food and it took more than 1 hour to be brought out to us. Others seated after we arrived and ordered were served their food before we received our food. We asked for the manager, they sent us the hostess who lied about being the manager. She explained they were overwhelmed with the high customer traffic which caused delays with us receiving our food. We informed her we witnessed another party received their food and we placed our order before they arrived. She told us she would speak with the owner to see what she could do. We never spoke with the owner or manager and the hostess never willing returned to our table. The bill arrived, the $15 live band cover was included in the bill which forced you to pay the 20% gratuity towards the band cover. Overall, we would not revisit this restaurant nor would we recommend this restaurant to anyone. We all came to the conclusion, the band cover and gratuity are guaranteed so there wasn’t a need for Mintons Playhouse employees to provide great Customer Service. We informed The employees how displeased we were and would surely write a review on the poor service received. No one seemed to care or even attempt to persuade or, accommodate us. We left upset, frustrated and very dissatisfied.
The jazz show was excellent . The restaurant was disgusting. Had to wait forever for waiter to appetizer. Big mistake! We had to wait again indefinitely before they finally brought the main courses out again. I ordered lamb chops medium rare. They came out somewhere between well dine and burnt. At this point it was almost showtime at the jazz club so I shoved the over cooked lamb chops down, paid the bill and headed to the jazz club. The show was excellent. We ordered dessert at the jazz club which was ordinary at best with ice cream on the side which was a tiny half melted scoop. No decaf cappuccino. Regular cappuccino came out lukewarm and had to be sent back. In conclusion, I suggest going for the show but definitely eating elsewhere.take drink order and then even longer for him to bring the drinks. We ate in the adjacent restaurant and advised waiter that we would like to be done in an hour and a half to go next door to see the jazz show. Finally, they bring our food; appetizer and main courses all at the same time. They took the main course back to the kitchen to keep it warm while we ate the
We live in the neighborhood and had been wanting to go to Minton's for a while. The vegetarian lasagna was good but specially the music and the service were amazing. The space is very cool, perfect for a date night.
Great music and food. A little pricey in that they have a mandatory drink fee, which they charged, so we got another. Very pleasant.
The strip steak came out and I laughed so hard that I literally cried LOL. The salmon was pretty good but the overall food portions were ridiculous for what we were charged. Where are we eating once we leave here??? I had a headache when I left smh. Never, ever, ever again.
The food here was ok! The service was great! I will return for the great service! My drinks or should I say cocktails are great!
Out of town guest enjoyed the jazz.
Soup, Lasagna and after dinner coffee was not hot although they were eager to re-heat (not a pleasant experience) for my friends. Overall it was a good evening.
Above expectations , would highly recommend this establishment .
I truly enjoyed the atmosphere!!! The food was great!!! It was cooked well. The service was on top of their A game. The performance by King Solomon was energetic!!! I've told many ppl about my time and have invited them to go to Minton's Playhouse!!!!
Awesome customer service ! my boyfriend and I went to Minton's Playhouse to celebrate our 1 year of dating. Everyone was so nice, and welcoming. Even the performer Alyson Williams, and her band so sweet. She gave us a lovely shout out. Would definitely recommend for a lovely night out, calm settings. In addition, I had forgotten my card my boyfriend had gotten me, they held it for me to pick it up.
Minton's is a fantastic location for a relaxing dinner accompanied by live performance. It has a dimly lit, intimate soiree atmosphere. For these reasons alone, I would return there multiple times. On top of all of this, they have excellent service and delectable, artfully presented food. While it is by no means a cheap location, you know that you are getting value for your money.
I love this place. Intimate jazz club in Harlem, great history, completely restored. They get excellent groups - not necessarily with high name recognition but definitely high-quality musicians. We saw the JC Polo Quartet and really loved them.
The place to be for every hope.
Becarful of your budget.
We don't usually eat at venues since the food is usually expensive and low quality. Not so here! The food, the service and the atmosphere made for a perfect evening. Just what we were looking for, great music and good food. The show was inexpensive and the food was priced as you would expect. We'll go back for sure...
Wow, we really enjoyed our night at Minton's!! Our meal was lovely, the service was great and the show itself (Queen Ester) was so so enjoyable! The entire evening was just a pleasure! The whole atmosphere is just warm and enjoyable and funky and yet unpretentious! We will definitely be back!
Awesome experience and great atmosphere
We went to Minton’s to hear some great jazz-after all, it’s where Be- Bop began. The staff is friendly and professional. The music was wonderful, and the food and wine was delicious. Highly recommended for a wonderful night of music and melody.
I'm 24 years old and this was my first time visiting this establishment and I'd have to say I was amazed and so happy with everything. The food, drinks and live music blew me away. I also enjoyed how polite every person on staff was, my waiter was amazing.
Do yourself a favor and go to Minton's. Between the amazing food, incredible staff, and world class musicians, you will not be disappointed.
Beautifully renovated historic jazz club. Lovely arrangement and pleasant food. Excellent ambiance--good jazz.
Great performance, really attentive staff (including the manager) and a super steak. Great date night!
The food was WONDERFUL!!! Our waiter was PHENOMENAL and the live music was EXCEPTIONAL!!! What an awesome experience, we will definitely come back when visiting the city!
The food was over 1.5hr late. The music was great, but the setting was a little awkward by the transition of the set.
The food was really good, but we waited more than 1:30 hours for them to bring us our food. Something happened that night because all the tables were in a similar situation and the people were complaining. It's good, but very pricey for the kind of service in my opinion.
