Minton's was definitely amazing - was not crazy about my dish but overall, service was stellar from the minute we walked in and the set blew us away. Will definitely be back.
We visited for my grandfathers 86th birthday. My sister made reservations in advance and did tell them that we had a large party attending. However because our reservations were made separate they did not completely accommodate the larger party that we had. They sat some of our party along the wall instead of doing so for other guest. Very small space but amazing live music. They were a little slow with service when asked for things like silverware, water, etc. The food was okay but definitely for the price would have liked a way better selection of things. They also combined two other people bills onto my bill which was a huge hassle. When asked to separate the bills they were hesitant. It resulted in me having to sit there additional 15 minutes just to figure out the bill. They did not ask in advance if there were additional people with me on my bill they just assumed we were all together. Overall my experience was okay the only thing that was great about this experience was the live jazz band that my grandfather enjoyed. They did great they also sang happy birthday to my grandfather. He was very happy with the band. Certainly would not recommend for birthdays of a larger party.
Very bad service. You feel in a hurry. They want to get the more money from you in the shortest time.
Excellent Jazz Show. Excellent Service!
My only gripe on this past visit was with the lighting on the left side banquette - bright white and glaring throughout the performance. Make sure you request a table in the middle or on the right side.
in general, the music is usually worth the cost of the dinner dishes.
Everything about the evening was excellent, I would definitely recommend.
We took friends here for Sunday brunch to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Everyone enjoyed their food selections. The music was stellar (Grammy award winning artists). The manager provided us with champagne on the house for an anniversary toast. It was perfect. Our friends were well pleased.
We had a great time. We ordered the steak which was ok, but we had crabcakes and fish the previous time and those dishes were amazing.
Joakim, the manager there is the best!!! He is so personable and very hands on.
The atmosphere in Minton's is terrific; it really does feel historic. The lounge is kept at a low light with everything facing the stage so everyone gets the best view or the performers.
The service is excellent; every staff member was attentive, polite and efficient - we felt very well taken care of.
And then the music - as a jazz fan I was not disappointed. We say JC Hopkins and the Biggish Band on a Saturday night, and if that performance is reflective of the overall quality of the acts then you will be in love. We were treated to lesser known classics and gems by familiar names by amazing performers.
The food was very good, if a little overpriced. My partner has eaten elsewhere round the city for less and had food of equal quality, but when everything else is this good you can hardly complain.
Minton's was my highlight of NY, and if you're even vaguely a jazz fan you owe it to yourself to pay it a visit (check out the calendar beforehand to see if there are performers you think you'll like).
Service was great, ambiance was excellent and the jazz was amazing. The food was pretty good too. You will have a great night out!
Fantastic food! Great music! We had a wonderful time visiting from Minneapolis.
My mom loves the Mother’s Day brunch! She has thanked me a couple of times a day since. Wonderful!
Great experience! I took my mother for an early mother’s day!
It was a beautiful and fun experience. The food was great, the show was outstanding and we had a great time for my mom’s birthday!
We had an absolutely fabulous night! Highly recommended!
Nice food, GREAT music
The only small caveat beside the overall very positive experience was the difficulty to get a taxi organised. If you are not a New York it is really impossible to discuss with the people on the phone to get a taxi. We than found an empty yellow cab view blocks around the corner. Suggestion as a famous location you just have a code for a preferred taxi company and the exactly now where to pick you up.
We only had the dessert but it was the best tres leches cake I ever had! Loved that my daughter (17) was able to go and sit in for a set. Service was very attentive. I did think the food and drinks were pricey. There is a music charge and minimum $30 f/b charge. We had just come from dinner so forced ourselves to have more dessert. Oh well! Overall it was a great night.
I'll come back, it was a great moment with an outstanding Jazz quartet
Nice to visit an historic landmark. The ambiance was warm and the food, surprisingly superb for a jazz spot.
Good music in a beautiful venue with great service.
My friends and I had a wonderful time. The performance was stellar and the service was wonderful. However, the seating left something to be desired. In the past, there were small cocktail tables that created a much more intimate, comfortable environment. The banquet style tables were awkward.
It was the worst pork chops I ever had. I should have asked for my money back.
The servers were great, music awesome. They only played for 30 minutes and we waited 45 minutes to be seated. Kind of outrageous. And when I asked about it I was lectured on how it works and that they had to clear one group out before seating others. Perhaps they should think about managing the reservations better. Just a thought.
The show was awesome and the accommodations was great as well. However the end of the evening an error on Tab. The manager should have compensated the party (9) at least to the patrons where the error was made.
Don’t forget the feelings of your customers.
Lovely welcome by the servant. The fold came quicly and vers tasty. The musicentertainment was autstanding.
I really enjoyed Minton's. I was turned off by the deposit required at first but it was worth it. The food was really good and the service was excellent. The entertainment was great and interactive and worth the additional coat.
Great food, our waiter was very attentive. We had to leave before the Music set began! But I would go back to this restaurant again.
Fun, great for visiting parents. The vegetarian lasagna was only so-so, but the rest of the dishes, particularly the Cecil salad, were delicious. The hostess was snippy with my when I asked how much longer it would be before we would be seated. Other than that, the service was excellent.
Classy, sexy, warm, elegant, friendly, yummy, and fantastic music!
An amazing experience for us, Parisians, our first-time in Harlem !
Made a reservation, but still had to wait 25 minutes for our table. It was very crowded in the front of the restaurant with nowhere to really wait. We almost left. Other than that, the band playing and our server was great. The food and drinks were delicious.
It was my sister’s birthday and we came all the way from Brooklyn to celebrate; unfortunately the drive took longer than we expected, therefore we were late for the first show. I asked the host if we could reserve for the second show and she made it happen. She escorted us to the lounge to wait then returned for us...she went above and beyond. Our server was just as hospitable; our food was served in a timely manner ( it was delicious!). She also acknowledged my sister’s birthday during desert. Finally, the reason for our visit—the music! It was fantastic...one hour was not enough. We will be back!
The music and talent on stage was outstanding, which kept this review above avg. I found the food to be average (at best -- fish tacos were bland, and my date had dry thin pork chops) and the wait staff kept grabbing at our plates while there was still plenty of food on them (without asking). It was a snowy Sunday night and the place was 1/4 filled and we were told we had to pay another ticket and minimum food/drink service fee to stay for the second set. If they just would've been nice and let us stay, I'm sure we would've ordered dessert and more drinks. Bad customer service and bad management style -- that's probably why they were only 1/4 filled (and not the weather).
There were 6 of us celebrating my sister’s birthday. The experience was great all around. We were seated promptly in a dining room that is intimate with beautiful decor. The staff was polite and attentive. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. I highly recommend this restaurant and will visit again!
We had a wonderful time at Minton's Playhouse on Saturday, 3/2 for dinner and the show. We arrived at 6:30pm for dinner. Most of the patrons had not arrived yet and we were able to to enjoy a quiet dinner before the 7:30pm show. By time the show started, the room was packed. The prix fixe menu was a great value. The food was delicious, the servers were attentive, the venue was swanky and sophisticated, and the entertainment was superb. We will definitely return!
We had a great time at Minton’s - our first time there. Everything was better than I expected. The food, service and musical entertainment were top notch. I will definitely go back. It all felt so special - a great place.
I’ve been to Minton’s many times before on a Friday or Saturday. This was my visit on a Thursday. While waiting for the rest of my party I interacted with the bar tender, who said he was the “bar manager”. Not sure how he got this position but he was surly, and unwilling to modify a drink for me. The food was excellent. But for a slow Thursday evening (the place was at best half filled) it took a long time to get our orders. Once I orders arrived and the show began we had a wonderful time. This will probably be my last Thursday night visit.
actually I do not like the idea of eating or drinking for a minimum amount ( 30 Dollar).
