Mint - LI Ratings and Reviews
I went to mint in garden city for my 26th birthday. They food was great but the service lacked big time. We had to ask for menus and the server only come to the table once after we got our food (in my opinion if there is is a large table the servicer should be more attentive).
We were very disappointed. Had a 7:15 reservation, but no host or hostess present at reception for at least 10 minutes to even check our reservation. Event though we were on time, we were told that there were no seats in the main area of the restaurant; we had to sit between the front entrance and bar for dinner. Every time someone entered or exited the restaurant, you could feel cold air blowing on us.
Our waiter had trouble keeping track of our order. Although I inquired about fish, I didn't order fish and ordered a lamb dish. However, over the next 1/2 hour, he kept checking whether or not I wanted fish. (I kept saying no.) Service was generally slow, slower than it should have been even for a Saturday night. Our friends received their soup first; then well after they were done eating their soup, the appetizer my wife and I ordered was brought out along with a Tandori chicken that one of our friends had ordered as her entree. About 1/2 hour after that, the entrees that the remaining 3 of us ordered came out. Clearly the waiter couldn't get our order brought in a reasonable time. We did get deserts all brought together in a timely fashion.
The food was excellent tasting. I would give the restaurant another chance, but maybe not on a busy night. This was not a good experience for us.
The food was excellent! My usual experience with Indian food is that the dishes cost about $15 a pop, but are very small portions. I was pleasantly surprised that the dishes at mint cost about $18 and were way bigger than I expected! The choices were vast, and the prices were good. Good beer selection too! I will definitely return!
Terrible food and service. The refused to serve us from the buffet because we were 30 minutes before it closed, which was rude but okay. But when we went on to order food, they gave us cold buffet food from that morning. The rest of the food was also half cold half hot. which means it was probably heated up and not fresh. the place looked like a 60's diner, definitely not like the pictures online. Wouldn't seat us where we initially wanted. Never came to check on us. We had multiple waiters which was very confusing. Then one of them proceeded to argue with us about what we wanted to order. Then they did not bring out our rice with our sauce/curry entree's and charged us for naan. And it was not just us. There were 4 other filled tables and all of us had the same, if not similar, experience. Thinking back, I don't know why we did not just get up and leave. I guess we were really in the mood for Indian food and were too far from home.
We were not greeted by anyone for the whole 10 minutes we were there. I proceeded to head upstairs to see if the staff were there, and that's when a server appeared and said, "You can't go up there." I told him we've been here for a while and no one was here to seat us. We headed to the bar for happy hour, and the place definitely did not reflect the "happy hour" vibe. Even the manager didn't realize it was happy hour. Our drinks were fine, but the server that made our drinks had to go to the back room (I'm assuming to check the recipe for the drinks) everytime we ordered a drink. My boyfriend and I were the only customers at the bar AND the lounge area for the entire duration of our happy hour stay (over an hour). Food wise, it was fine. However, my chicken from my tikka masala was so dry I couldn't finish it (and I ALWAYS finish my chicken tikka masala). After dinner we headed across to Season 52 to end our night with GREAT service, excellent drinks, and a wonderful vibe that should've been reflected at Mint because it was such a nice-looking restaurant. Such a shame.
Unfortunately I had a really bad experience at this restaurant. I don't know if they were extremely overwhelmed but they were all over the place. First the valet was by himself and was just like leave your car here . We walked into the restaurant and no one was there to greet us . We waited at the hostess podium for assistance. After a few minutes a lady comes by and Told her I have reservations for 730 for 2. Mind you --- seems like they had a party on the rooftop or something because the music was blasting and mixing with the music in the restaurant -- not so good . She sits us in a lounge area not the dining room of the restaurant . Honestly once I sat down I wasn't happy about this place. Before coming to this restaurant I had researched cause we we're celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. I like the atmosphere and the decor of the restaurant via online . I was disappointed to have been seated near the bar and in some sort of lounge .
The only good thing about this place was the food . The menu had a lot of food options and the food was good. The waiter who helped us didn't seem happy to be there . He was taking care of too many tables . This place is very short staffed. Once dinner was done and over , I went to get my car and couldn't find the valet . So I decided to just look for my car and guess what ---- my car had been on the whole time . Someone could have grabbed my car cause it was on and unlocked . We finally Found the valet and he admitted that he never turned off my car . I was done.
I usually don't write reviews but this was the last straw. I don't recommend this place if your looking for good food and great service your not going to find it here . Sorry Mint LI -- but you need to hire more staff and be more personable. I gave them a 1 star cause the food was good --- maybe they should do delivery.
The food was quite good but overpriced. The menu says family style. We ordered two appetizers and one meal figuring that would be more than enough. The main meal portion was way too small for family style. No rice with the meal and the Nann was extra. We ended up ordering extra Nann but still left hungry.
The beer price was okay but wine was overpriced. The cheapest glass was $11.00 the same as a specialty cocktail.
I entree, 2 apps, 1 beer and 2 orders of Nann was $65.00. I spent less at other Indian places nearby and got more food and drink.
I attended the restaurant the day before Mother's Day with my mom. So it was like a Mother's Day dinner. The waiter who was also the manager seemed overwhelmed although the didn't seem that busy so it was hard to get his attention because it seem like he was never available. The drinks were the worse drink we've had I don't know who the bartender was but they were terrible. We ended up only getting appetizers leaving and going to PF Changs. Will not recommend or ever be back to this restaurant.
We had a wonderful dinner at Mint in Garden City for Long Island Restaurant Week. Although there was some confusion initially about bringing us the prix fixe menu for Restaurant Week, after it was sorted out, the rest of the meal was wonderful. Very attentive service, including lots of water refills, which is essential when eating Indian food. The tandoori chicken was the most tender and flavorful I have ever had. The Naan bread was very light and not greasy as it often turns out in other Indian restaurants. This was our first experience at Mint, and we will definitely be back!
I was there with reservations for a Sat. night. Arrived and noisy with parties taking up all the restaurant except the bar area that instead of tables for drinks , were now tables for dinner. The music was loud, the place too busy. The food is fine, but go on a weekday
We were seated right away, which was upstairs in what felt like an attic that they happened-to-have 2 tables stuffed together (we sat next to another couple, felt like a double-date even though they had a little extra space to move the tables further apart). The decor was terrible as well, LED lights beaming into our eyes from every angle and no real lightening which amplified the effect of the LEDs in our eyes.
The food was not so great, not horrible either; but in saying so this place isn't even in the top 10 Indian restaurants I've been. The portions are small- I had Chicken Tikka Masala and there were a few pieces of chicken on a flat plate with very little sauce. I ordered Garlic naan with it (small naan) which it ended up there wasn't much sauce to eat it with anyways. The Tikka Masala sauce was bland, plain, mediocre to be generous in my description. She had the Goat Curry which was bland as well and very fatty with lots of bones and little meat.
The appetizer was OK, probably the best part of the meal but still not the best. We asked for the scallops to be cooked well done which they were not, though the Chicken Tikka Samosa was pretty good and the chicken used was flavored and not dry.
For the service they were extremely pushy on the alcohol. Sure, if I drink enough then I'll enjoy the food and decor more- but I can't for my health and made it clear. Even so, still very pushy and waiting for cues on drinks constantly (by not ordering drinks and stating that we can order appetizers, the waiter still walked away as if they are putting in our drink orders and it took over 15 minutes for them to come back and take our appetizers... again, same cue we picked up after finishing the appetizer and trying to order the main course).
I would not go here again. I would not recommend Mint. Overrated for sure- I hope this helps!
I'd seen this place and decided to give it a shot. By looking at the menu I knew it was Indian cuisine. But I wasn't prepared for the crowd to be 100% Indian as well. It was a bit odd, almost like we didn't belong to a private club of some sort. But the food and service were both very good.
This was the worst place I have ever been! I took my family here for valentines dinner and made a reservation for 4 people. When we got there we were seated at a 2 people table, and when I asked the hostess to move us, she said the rest was booked, which I didn't understand since she had so many table available and WE HAD A RESERVATION! We had only 2 water glasses, ordered drinks with the waiter and the water came back to us to ask what we wanted to drink 20 mins later after forgetting we already ordered our drinks. I asked to speak with a manager twice already at this point and he never came around. Finally when the waiter brought over two drinks and STILL FORGET THE LAST ONE, my dad got upset and a manager immediately appeared. He switched us to a cabana, but then they still forgot the last drink and the food was quite distasteful. Finally, I would've loved to say the ambiance was great, but unfortunately at the end another waiter came over and asked if we wanted the check, dropped off the check, came back two minutes later to pick it up, we informed him we weren't ready yet since we were all busy in conversation, so he left and came back again TWO MINUTES LATER!!!!!!!!! It's as if we were being rushed out, which we shouldn't have been since the restaurant was no where near busy and no where near closing time! Othher customers around us were so frustrated with the service we just found humor in the situation so that we can try and enjoy the rest of our evening. I was baffled by the awful service, and I will never go back! I was utterly humiliated to bring my family here under the horrible assumption that it would be an amazing place.
I've been to Mint LI before and had an amazing time. This time was a little different. My date and I were seated on roof , amazing atmosphere if you are into a live dj while dinning. The food was ok (way better my first time). Overall experience was ok, would go back because it is a chill spot for couples or groups. The rooftop made the night. Will go back again before it gets too cold.
The music from the upstairs lounge was loud. It competed with the soothing Indian music in the dining room on the first floor - this did not make for a relaxed evening. The drinks from the bar didn't taste as great as their description - they could've used more alcohol as well. We had the Crispy Lotus Root appetizer and Crispy Chili Cauliflower - both were tasty. We also tried the Lamb Penang Curry and Lamb Chop Masala - both dishes were full of flavor and we would order again.
We went to this restaurant during "Restaurant Week" because we had been driving by it for a while and we love Indian Food as a general rule-- NOT IN THIS CASE. The staff collectively had a massive chip on their shoulder. They made it seem like they were doing us a favor by taking our petty "Restaurant Week" order. The portion sizes were tiny and when we inquired about the size of the portions our waiter told us these were the "Restaurant Week" portions implying that had we ordered off the real menu we might have been happier with what we received. The flavors we encountered during this meal we not as intense or bold as we have at other similar restaurants.
Not worth the money
I couldn't relax due to this tense vibe from the staff looking over my table. The food was average and overpriced and drinks portions were very small.
It's a beautiful establishment but Don't go an hour before closing they will make you uncomfortable and rush you out. I was told three times to hurry up in ordering within 5 minutes after I sat down. Candles were taking away from tables before I got my appetizers. I think if you're going to honor your hours and your costumer's reservation you should do it with a smile on your face and give thanks they are bringing you business.
Other than that, it's a nice restaurant. I may return just for drinks at the bar, in hopes that my overall experience is better.
The food and service was very good at Mint. There are lots of vegetarian choices. Everyone was happy with their food choices. Half the restaurant was closed off for a private party so we did not see the entire place. The only down side was that the tables and chairs were very worn.
The food was absolutely outstanding, but to tolerate the absolutely poor service to enjoy it is by no means worth it. It's as simple as this, when your waiter does not come back to your table after your initial order and you have to wait nearly an hour for your check causing you to seek out your waiter at the bar for it... No, that's completely ridiculous. See if you can order it take out, you'll be much happier.
