The place is amazing. We went to MiniBar eight years ago. It has been our favorite place ever since. That said, MiniBar is better now than it was eight years ago.

Amazing. Exquisite food and service. It is an experience not just dining. Be prepared to drop serious money but it a special event for people who believe food can be art and dining can be an experience not a chore.

Best place in DC! It is truly a great dining experience. As soon as me and my husband arrived, staffs are all welcoming. Service is always impeccable food is above and beyond. The concept of José Andrés is out of this world. Love everything about this gem.

We would recommend this restaurant but you have to accept the price, which is very high end and not worth this price. The wine testing was not a good match for the majority of the courses the non alcoholic option was a much better pairing.

It's an experience but very pricey

A once in a lifetime type of meal. Unexpected surprises with each course with food pairings that were inspired. It was very expensive but I will cherish the memory. It would probably not be appreciated by someone other than a foodie.

Incredible combination of innovative, elegant, and well balanced. Attentive service operates like a well oiled machine. Best suited for groups of 6 or less. Perfectly appropriate for dates, small groups of friends or work related group who is comfortable partaking of unique dining experiences. One of my lifetime best restaurant experiences.

A special place.

This may be a once in a lifetime experience for us! It was nothing less than a fabulous experience, with incomparable service, and incredibly innovative, food and dedicated staff. Of course, none of that is worthwhile if the food is not great, and the tastes were amazing and mind-blowing. This was the first tasting menu experience we have had, and combined with the optional wine pairings, I cannot say enough about the place. It also gave a us a glimpse of a world that we do not and could not frequent, but as a special occasion, it makes all others pale by comparison. I think that the staff, and chef, Josh Hermias, did a fabulous job. I can say that this is likely the best meal that we have ever had or will ever have...

Minibar lived up to the hype. Definitely a must-do on anyone's bucket list, but at $275 per person (not including tax, tip or drinks) it is definitely an experience to be reserved for a very special occasion. Not recommended for those with food allergies - among the 25+ dishes we were served, most had shellfish and/or nuts. Bring your most adventurous palate- our menu included skate, bone marrow, sea urchin and plankton.
You don't HAVE to do the wine pairing at $95 or $195 (and up) extra per person, despite what they make you think when you walk in the door. We were just interested in the cocktails anyway but they almost made us feel like we were doing it wrong, despite bar-mini being attached to the restaurant where they specialize in craft cocktails, many with cool nitrogen presentations. The cocktails were awesome and ranged from $12--$20. The cheapest glass of wine was $25. So if you are going to do wine, you might as well shell out for the pairing. Overall a really awesome experience for any foodie.

One of the finest dinning experiences I have ever had. From the theatrical curtain opening to the open kitchen and the presentation of the food we had a wonderful night of dinning and meeting some great and friendly people. Very highly recommended.

Considering the price tag, the taste of most of the many courses was underwhelming. While everything is prepared with great care and attention to detail, the low temperatures of the food are often masking flavor.

Jose Andres has created a truly special dining experience with minibar. From the moment we entered and were presented with glasses of Cava to the moment we received our bill in Russian nesting dolls three hours later, the whole night was whimsical. The chefs prepare food in front of your eyes and the kitchen is open. While it is a menu of 20-25 small plates only 4-5 are truly tapas entrees and the rest are small bites that amuse and delight your senses. I would highly recommend this restaurant for your next special occasion (as it is a quite pricey). It was an unforgettable night.

I've been waiting to go here forever, and I finally got to go for my birthday/graduation with my brother and my partner. The three of us absolutely loved the immersive food experience (and had it been a different night, probably would have added a cocktail or few as well). We were served 25 dishes of almost unbelievable variety of sources, textures, flavors, smells, and appearances.

The "low point" was the chicken leg, which did not show off as much adventurousness as the other dishes. The flavor was good, and were this any ordinary restaurant, it might have even been the best dish available. But the follow-up with chicken skins was great.

The "high point" was pretty much everything else. It's hard to identify the true best, though the langoustine and skate were perhaps my favorites (I had never tasted either before). My brother's favorites were the donut icecream stuffed donut (like a Krispy Kreme mochi), and the bone marrow with strawberries and honey. My partner's favorites were the Last Word meringue and sorbet, and the Vegetables de Bellota.

The price is pretty high. Certainly high enough that we can't afford to go more than once or twice a year. We've been to barmini a few times and will probably be back there soon. But will we be back to minibar? Absolutely. Eventually. I'm counting the days.

P.S. I have seen reviews that have implied (or stated) that the food was not filling enough. Maybe this is true if you're an athlete, or you're quite a bit larger than average. No one in my party, nor in the other parties at our evening seating, had room for any food after it was over. We were all stuffed. It's small dishes, but there are a lot of them and they add up.

This was my second visit to Minibar, the first being at the old Cafe Atlantico incarnation. At first I was taken aback by the difference in price, but it was worth every single penny. The food, of course, was stunning. The design of the place is weird and wacky and I loved it (Those bathrooms! The acoustics that allow us to hear each other but not other tables/chefs!). But I keep coming back to the people and their cheerful, impeccable service, particularly by our server/sommelier Carl. With nothing but the vaguest parameters, he was able to select drinks for me that were perfectly paired with the upcoming dishes and my taste — three different times. And he made my non-drinking husband feel right at home by presenting his non-alcoholic flight with the same care and panache as my cocktails. That means a lot, when so many restaurants ignore non-drinkers. If I could afford it, I'd go back just for Carl. This was an ideal place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and we'll be back.

The food was wonderful, service was outstanding, but the experience does border on gimmicky at times. Each of the 25 or so courses tasted and looked amazing, and I can't think of anywhere that has better service. However... After a few courses, it does seem like they are trying too hard with the preparations -- it's all gels, liquid nitrogen, foams, frozen & fried, etc, and none of it for any apparent reason other than 'because you can'.

It is definitely worth going, but only once. Even if they charged a fraction of what they do, it is absolutely not a place worth going back to.

Couldn't savor the minimal amount of servings. It seems they were served too close to each other in a rush to get the next sitting of people.
Server Chefs diction and accents were hardly audible nor understandable at times, maybe again because of time pressure, pride or arrogance.
Would be helpful if a description of what we have before us was written so we would relish it more.
The evening should be relished, enjoyable and pleasant but it turned for us anyway that we were being done away with but in a grand manner.
The auxiliary help were most gracious, professional , friendly and efficient.

The first time here the excitement was icerwhelming. The scold time however the reality set in this is an experimental food kitchen there's a good chance that a few of the dishes that you eat will not be particularly delicious but they certainly are guaranteed to be interesting and unlike anything else you have had before. In contrast to Alinia in Chicago which also uses a very crazy and weird set of cooking and presentation techniques the food here is less delicious

"Experience" doesn't begin to describe the wonderful dishes at Minibar. With each new course, the chefs engaged our senses with a play on textures and techniques. The creativity and imagination embodied in each combination of flavors was exquisite. A must do!!!

We had so much fun at Minibar! The food was unlike anything we'd ever tasted, every bite packed a surprise: textures, temperatures, flavors... Besides, the staff was amazingly attentive, and they were happy to accommodate my food and drink requests that they be pregnant-friendly. Very highly recommend this for a special occasion.

It was interesting to see the chefs prepare the food, but the meal was not satisfying. After 23 courses, one would think the diner would feel satiated, but at the end of the evening I was still hungry. I thought it unusual, too, that the entree courses ended with rabbit (which was delicious). However, given that rabbit is a bit of a gamble for many diners' taste buds, it would have made more sense to end on a beef dish.

Amazing night. Can't believe I haven't reviewed until now. I had been to minibar years ago when it was inside another Jose Andres restaurant and it was unbelievably good, but nothing like this experience. Three hours of over the top inventive cuisine and service fit for an empress. I am an excellent chef, and very creative in my own right (not bragging, just putting this in context)- I am not afraid to try molecular gastronomy in my own kitchen, and I have flown thousands of miles just to try a particular restaurant. Minibar is that type of venue. Frozen bites that disappear in your mouth, bubbles that burst into a riot of flavor, trompe l'oeuil food that looks like rocks and moss but tastes like heaven, all paired with perfect wines (how do you know what works with food that makes you breathe smoke like a dragon?!?) The ONLY bit that was off even the tiniest was the "birthday cake" they made for my sister. Totally unnecessary as the entire meal was a gift, and it was made of cotton candy shaped like a slice of cake, just not as over the top as everything else.
You must understand with wine and tip a meal for two can be a thousand dollars of course...

This was an amazing dining experience. The food preparation and presentation was more like a live show then just food being placed in front of you. The food was creative and one after the other a work of art creating a cohesive experience that I have never had before. Paired perfectly with wine, I would recommend this to all don't mind splurging for breathtaking night out!

Minibar by José André is so far the most creative restaurant I have ever been to, the food are absolutely good and the service are very nice. And it's on my top list of all Michelin restaurants. My mom commented it's better than Per Se lol. Anyway, definitely worth going and definite recommend this to everyone. If I have a chance to go back to DC, I will go again.

Took a date to America Eats for dinner Monday night. It was probably the most delicious meal I've ever had in my life. Dinner at this place consists of multiple courses, although the portion sizes are small except for the final entree. I had the Oysters Rockefeller, the lobster roll, the peanut soup, the jambalaya, and the cheesecake for dessert, plus I sampled my date's vermicelli "mac and cheese." Everything was orgasmic -- particularly the lobster roll and the vermicelli -- except the peanut soup, which was cold (by design) and bland (hopefully not by design). Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. It is pricey though -- it came to $200 for the two of us, tax and tip included. Loved the quirky menu.

Very limited menu (many items were not available and a few dishes are not available every night) and while the service was good when we had it, it took us an hour to get our entrees after we ordered. This is not Jose Andres' best offering.

The Dominican conch fritters were delicious and perfectly prepared. The duck sope was excellent - a tad salty but the perfectly cooked duck more than made up for that. The wine list presented excellent pairing opportunities. Waiter was excellent, knew the menu inside and out, and was able to make great recommendations.
