Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Great black label burger. Fries were stubby & warm. Best grand marnier soufflé ever and went well with vanilla ice cream.

Minetta Tavern never disappoints! The service, food, and atmosphere are always impeccable. The prices are quite high but that comes with the territory.

It was good, no doubt about it, just don't know if it quite lived up to the hype for our party. Now that I've done it, don't know that I need to go rushing back.

My husband and I were visiting New York together for the first time and he got to see a lot of the sites and I knew this restaurant was one place we had to get to. Read about it too much in all my Travel & Food magazines. We took my cousin who lives in New York & she had been there many times & it was so amazing from start to finish that we even bought her a gift card that we gave to her before we left a few days later to head back home. A definite must go to Restaurant with so much Hustory!!

I've been coming to Minetta for 15 years. It's a New York institution with lots of history with great food. The burger and steak selections are top notch. The only negative I can say about this place is the bar gets really crowded when people are waiting for their tables and when its packed it can take a long time to get a drink. If they added another bartender or two to the main bar it would relieve a lot of congestion. I'm biased because this is one of my favorite spots--old school New York.

Excellent staff and service. Great NYC (Gotham) authentic tavern. Great burgers large enough -and pricey - for sharing, which satff encourage you to do. Excellent bar! Comfortable seating. Great vibes!

I went there as a French food lover. The staff was nice and the ambience beautiful. Feels like in Paris. For my surprise they didn’t have the steak frites that was the reason for my visit in the restaurant. Nobody explained why and I had to end up with a burger that was not what I was looking for. It’s a pity.

One of my favorite dining locations. The black burger and bone marrow are fantastic! The trout and salmon special we had in the recent visit were so enjoyable and flavorful. The bartenders are talented and helpful, and even at times entertaining.

The service is fantastic, attentive, yet not overwhelming. Has not let me down yet.

The service could not have been better - from the hostess, wait staff and busboys. We especially appreciated the waiter's mention that the french fries were made in peanut oil as I have a peanut allergy. The food was delicious.

Enjoyable lunch in this Parisienne steakhouse. Went for the burger—quite a reputation. Disappointed—not quite up to expectations. However, it was good but for $30 expected more. The ambience was nice, service ok but had difficulty flagging down our server for needed items. And it was noisy making conversation difficult. Looking at other tables the bone marrow looked interesting.
Would return but would try another entree.

Excellent food but the service was subpar. We had to call over the server to order initially, and then multiple times to get additional drinks. Not what I'd expect from a nicer restaurant in NYC.

This was our second meal at Minetta Tavern, the historic and Michelin Starred restaurant in Greenwich Village during a recent visit to NYC.

Again we we ordered the famous Black Label Burger ($33). These were great, just as good as those served up a few days earlier. Patties were perfectly prepared medium-rare, leaning more towards rare than medium, giving off hints of truffle aroma and taste. Topped with a thin layer of caramelised onions, these were delicious.

Burger aficionados will want to make reservations in advance at Minetta Tavern.

They tell you they are setting your table every time you inquire as you wait 45 minutes for said table. Maybe they have an iron forge in the back making individual table settings? They should be more honest. Tables are so close together it’s uncomfortable. Wouldn’t bother with this restaurant.

Black label burger was the star as always. We ordered a New York strip that was quite disappointing. The meat was tough and full of grizzle. Not worth the 65 dollars charged.

We recently visited New York City and enjoyed two very good dinners a Minetta Tavern near Washington Circle in the Greenwich Village.

Minetta Tavern is a lovely place, particularly famous for their special dry-aged burgers. Ambience is a cross between an old NYC tavern and a Parisian style steakhouse. Service is professional and timely while the burgers and drinks served are very good.

During our first meal we ordered the famous Black Label Burger ($33). These are fantastic dry-aged burgers, as good as we an recall ever having anywhere. Patties were perfectly prepared medium-rare, leaning more towards rare than medium. Burgers gave off hints of truffle aroma and taste. Topped with a thin layer of caramelised onions, these were just delicious burgers.

Burgers were served with a slice of tomato, pickle and lettuce and plenty of fries which were ok. Cocktail and beer drinks were very good, as was the Nougat Glacess dessert that we shared.

Overall, both meals at Minetta Tavern were sensational particularly for burgers. These are worth every penny of the price and something that will be very much enjoyed by burger aficionados out there. We very much plan to dine here again during future trips to NYC.

The food at Minetta is always good- we go for the burgers, the bone marrow, and the souffle. Be aware the tables with chairs are not comfortable and you will be constantly slammed by waiters and fellow customers trying their best to navigate and weave through the over crowded restaurant. I strongly recommend asking for a banquette or booth table, if possible.

The Minetta Black Label Burger is quite possibly the best
Burger in the world. Nothing short of fantastic flavor through the secret mix of meats in the patty. The fries that come with the burger are also a class in themselves (and I don’t even usually like fries). Awesome.

Black Label burger lived up to expectations. The meat was juicy, flavorful, and rich, and it did not need embellishments. Fries were also good.

Chocolate soufflé was a great way to end the meal; inside was thick molten chocolate, paired with the fluffy top layer. It was luxurious and decadent and delicious.

Service was very friendly.
