Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

My black label burger was a bit overcooked but the frites were exceptional. Very good service and the ambiance was perfect! Would come back to try their steaks.

The burger and the rest of the food was delicious and amazing. There could be more space between the seats though. My party was in the middle of everyone coming and going.

Service was terrible - only one waitress and she was too busy with everyone else to bother with us. The burger was delicious though!!

I was absolutely pulled into wanting a dining experience due to the hype placed on the ambience and the hamburger. Having eaten hamburgers all over this fine planet, I was quite disappointed in the lack of taste in the meat, in the bun. Fries were good. But, that was no hamburger. Trout--excellent, Burrata--best ever!, Salad-fresh, wine-yummy, dessert and after dinner espresso-perfect. Fabulous, prompt, easy going service. Kind, friendly staff. Ambience did not disappoint. Just won't be back. I take hamburgers seriously.

We have been wanted to try the famous “black label burger” for forever! So a bday celebration seemed like a fitting time. We started with the French Toast for an app to share since it was during Sunday brunch and then the BL burgers all around. We all ordered drinks and while my Bloody Mary came out quickly we had to ask the waiter for a simple tap beer and drip coffee repeatedly. The French Toast was burnt and nothing special. The burgers came out and they were done perfectly with help from our waiter while ordering. The fries tasted like they were overdone and then sat out for some time. Overall the experience was meh. There are way better burgers/French Toast in the city and service. I’m sad and disappointed since I REALLY wanted this New York classic to be a memorable one.

The special burger is the best, the attention is kind of slow.
