About Minetta Tavern

Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Great food and friendly initial service at a “fast food”restaurant. “Fast” food because they rush their guests out the door once the clock strikes 1 hour. Maitre’d and busboys literally pulled napkins and unfinished drinks out of our hands.
This happened in spite of our full entree and dessert orders, and two bottles of fine wine, each costing in the 3 digits. Our reservation was made 1 month in advance.
If their business model is to turn over a table in less than 75 minutes, they have succeeded. If their model is to please out of town visitors and generate repeat customers, they failed miserably.

We went for brunch. We were a little late, they didn't want to seat us until both of us were present. Had a drink at the bar that was well made. I had the fava beans with morell mushrooms and my partner had the dry aged burger. Both were quite good.
The room is NY cramped, not a lot of space between tables but that is NYC. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Great old village institution with food and atmosphere updated. A bit pricey but delicious. Maybe a little touristy.

Great ambiance. Beautiful old school NYC. Friendly service. Steak frites very good. Broccoli rabe too bitter and salty to eat. Coconut cake delicious. I often bring out of town guests here for a special dinner.

Get the bone marrow! We also had the burger and it was the best burger that I've ever had... that didn't have bacon and cheese on it 😉

Overpriced mediocre food. This restaurant is only interested in making your bill as large as possible. Would not recommend.

Well if you go here, you have to have the steak. I had the filet mignon and it was one of the best you can have. It completely melted in my mouth. My girlfriend had the burger which was awesome too. Their menu is small but well crafted. Definitely worth the money if you are looking for exceptional steak.

Totally overrated !! Unless you only like ambience and service, then it’s the place for you. Trust me I’ve eaten at tons restaurants and this place relies on their reputation.. To start with the bread was boring, & cold, nothing like you would expect to get a New York, that right there says it all !!! So I️ got the fish, sorry to say absolutely nothing at all special. My husband got the $33 burger and I️ could break it down but why !! It was simply not good !! REALLY !!! Fries were good !! Go and try and waste your money !!!
Sure there drinks are good. !! There you go.

Very expensive and very mediocre burger. Black label burger is bland and has no flavor. I don’t care how great the meat quality is if there is no flavor.

The burguer and the beer were perfect for the end of a full day walking around NYC. The waiter recommended a wonderful beer as my second choice. It was a great place to celebrate our anniversary.

I had a reservation to meet a friend there on a Wednesday night, but we arrived early just as two seats were opening at the bar. Lucky us, sitting at the bar turned out to be perfect for us. The ambiance was energizing, the bartenders were terrific, the food (halibut and veggies) was delicious, and there was no struggle to talk sitting side by side. The entire staff treated us as warmly as if we were regulars -- and now I certainly plan to become one!

Best service I’ve had in all of NYC. Came with my sister and girlfriend for my girlfriend’s birthday, and was treated like royalty. They even kept the restaurant open until 1, way past close, because we were having fun. 11/10 would recommend to anyone. Let alone how good the food was!

We enjoyed our lunch at the tavern. I would say it was a perfect day except for the hair in my wife’s drink. How do I know it wasn’t one of my wife’s or my own? We’ll I’m bald and my wife is a blonde and the hair was brunette. We would have appreciated the drink being comped, it wasn’t but the food made up for it mostly.

We arrived at 7:03 for our 7:00 dinner reservation and were told to wait for just a couple of minutes. We were seated at 7:20. Drinks and appetizers arrived and were good and then we had to wait 40 minutes for our main courses to arrive. The halibut and Trout were very good, but the garlic mashed potatoes were served in a nice iron pot, but they were cold. One should expect more.
