Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Black Label burger was overpriced (probably won't order again) but was VERY good. Fries were unbelievable as well.

We LOVED Hostess Mary/Maria? There was a mix up with the reservation and she IMMEDIATELY accommodated my party.(The Gentleman had flown in all the way from Alabama for business and it made quite an impression!) The food is usually very excellent however our monkfish was overcooked and immediately the waiter was able to get us a different dish quickly and effectively without a lot of fanfare! It was the Burger and it was absolutely delicious!!! I will absolutely come back with friends as well as for business for that Burger alone!!! Thx For a really great experience! xoTheDamo

This is my new favorite Old French Restaurant. The service was fantastic, the food was divine and the vibe is old school solid french. It was perfect. We went back for dinner after booking for lunch - that is how good it was.
Steak Frites - the Steak was tender, juicy and delicious with the Garlic Butter. The fries were perfect.
The French toast which we had for dessert rather than starter was also fabulous.

Loved Minetta Tavern. The scallop crudo was fantastic, and the burgers (my husband and I split the Minetta burger and Black Label burger) did not disappoint. I'll definitely be returning.

Best martini I've ever had! I love the old school vibe and energy here. We ordered one of the appetizer specials which needed seasoning, and we had the bone marrow which I cannot resist. It was perhaps a little too much with all the bread from both dishes, but the bone marrow was melt in your mouth deliciousness. For our main dish we had a fish special which was extraordinary and don't forget to order the soufflé! I will definitely be going back as I need to try the famous black label burger. I recommend this for a date night / special occasion; you have to try it at least once!

The Hamburg quality of meat was terrible, and we ask for “medium”, but they made rare. I showed them, and they made again, and now came very well done and hard! The flavor was very bad. Impossible to eat... Disappointed. I went there many times Years ago, and was fabulous. But now, it’s other, very bad!

We have been trying to eat here for a long time! Our luck, a table opened up this past Saturday.
Loud and fun we thoroughly enjoyed our appetizer, trout, and drinks.
Excellent service. Attentive but wise enough to allow time for us to savor our meal and each other's company.
An all around wonderful experience. We will return.

The black label burger is the best burger worldwide.

The service is always well executed at this historical restaurant.

One this visit the hostess was able to accommodate our +1 for the reservation for two. (Thanks and sorry for the last minute add)

Use open table and make a res today.

This is a place we always wanted to visit as it is one of the old New York City places you should visit at least once. It's been difficult to get a table without a reservation, so when one appeared on Open Table we grabbed it. We have heard that the best burger in NYC can be found at Mineta Tavern, but it costs $25. I have to say this is very overrated. The burger is good, but not worth $25. The bottom of the bun was soggy and it was just a burger. The fries were good though.

Our evening was made a thousand times better due to our waitress Rebecca. The food was great. She recommended desserts which were just amazing. Her service was perfect. The beef burgers were even better than the last time I was here. My favorite restaurant so far!

First of all, the cocktails, fries, and chocolate soufflé here are OUT OF THIS WORLD. But the black label burger at Minetta was a huge disappointment. Maybe my husband and I aren't the most adept to fine dining, but we certainly know meat. And it seems like a sin to grind beef tenderloin to make a ground beef patty. Although the dry aged flavor was musty and wonderful, the overall texture of the burger was very mashed potato-esque. If you find yourself ordering this burger, please stop them when they ask if medium-rare is ok. We're typically fine with some red in the center of a burger, but this guy was RAW. Because it's whole-muscle grind, we weren't particularly concerned about food safety, but it still just made the whole experience feel wrong. Unfortunately, it was the biggest let down of our NY trip. If you go, order the steak frittes.

Good but not great. Solid food and service that you expect from a Keith McNally but the space is too small for the number of people they pack in. The cost is not inline with the food that is 20% less at his other venues. For the overall cost you should not be getting your chair bumped every few minutes. The Black Label Burger is good but not worth the price tag.

Very much enjoyed our 1st meal at Minetta Tavern. We combined it with a show at the Comedy Cellar - just a couple of doors up the street. The bar was very old school - which is a good thing. Lots of bitters and other ingredients right on the bar and the bartenders know how to use them! We had drinks that were wonderful and large and were seated after only a few minutes. Got a corner table near the kitchen, but it wasn't noisy or crowded - though they do pack them in for a Friday night. We started with the endive salad. I had the Black Label burger and my wife had the Monkfish. All was terrific! Wish we had room for dessert (maybe next time?). The service was top notch - very friendly, but efficient. We were never rushed, but the place was packed and the bar was the crowded. Can't wait to return!

They seated us 1 hour after our reservation time. The table they offered us first was extremely small and tight, so we asked to be moved. The food was OK, but definetely not in line with the prices. The $33 USD burger is overpriced. The servers are nice but our server needed to go home and so they changed to another one. Maybe because they seated us So Late 10:30 to 10:45 PM we were one of the last tables on the restaurant so they felt tired (if you go maybe book at an earlier time, not after 8:30). I dont understand the Michelin Star.

So excited to finally try it. Worth the wait! Had the BL burger, fantastic. Thanks to the busboy who suggested not putting anything on it(ketchup) until tasting! Desert was chocolate soufflé! So worth the calories! Go when you get the chance. Don't be scared by the prices. You'll love it!!
