About Minetta Tavern

Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Warm welcome by the host though being asked to wait until the entire party was present
(1 other person) when a reservation has been made and adhered to, always sticks in my craw, especially if being invited to sit at in an overcrowded bar space and have a drink. He made up for it however with genuine friendliness while seating us and allowing us to move when a better table next to us became available. Our server was genuinely exceptional, solicitous without fawning, funny and kind. The Crowd, elegant European tourists and impossibly hip NYU students, and oh yes, the Food..aside from the famous hamburger which all the Europeans around us ordered, offers many unusual, tempting brunch options. Non meat options abound. Prices are high for drinks and food, but atmosphere is heady, nostalgia full on for those of us who came of age in the Village, buzz appeal for the tourists and hipsters. Bottom line, good food, great service and fun.

We didn't like the mussels, but everything else was fantastic! Such a fun place, with great atmosphere. And the burger did not disappoint - high quality!! Will definitely go back.

It was really hard to get past waiting 40 minutes on our 10:00 PM reservation with zero apology or concern.

Reserved this table 3 weeks in advance but we were given the worst table in the restaurant right by the door when we arrived. We asked to switch and were promised another table for nearly 30 minutes which never happened.

On a Friday night, I shouldn't have been surprised that the Minetta Tavern was PACKED but I heard the waiter telling another patron that no one knew why but the restaurant had been crazy busy for the last few weeks. I hope that middle-of-the-week meals are still the same...and you can have a quiet meal in such a quaint and charming establishment.

Burgers are the best choice. The steak was ok but still needed some ground to cover to get to greatness. The aged burger is perfect the way it comes. It feels a bit small but compensates with flavor. Best fries in the city.
Great service once in the dining room. The host was somewhat unpleasent and not very corteous. This was compensated by a very good waitress that was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Great location and neighbourhood.

I found this restaurant a little dated, food wise this time. I think there is much better food available and sadly don’t think I will go back again.

We had a 5:30 res and arrived on time but had to wait for a table for about 15 minutes? While others were seated. The bar was packed, but cheerful and decked out in holiday style. We ordered too much food but my halibut was quite good and my husband’s steak frite was good. Attentive waitress. Fun place.

Had a great night that started with the friendly and hilarious host at the front and ended with an amazing burger and a cold
kronenberg. Our waiter, Tony, took great care of us. Great evening.

31 dollar burger was just eh. My 21 dollar omelette was mostly a plate of McDonald's style french fries. $17 mimosa?? I don't mind a high priced menu if the food is wonderful but this was a waste

We have been coming Minetta Tavern for years and always had excellent service and food. The black label burger is still excellent, the fries and the French Dip were very good but the service was really shakey this time.

The server was buried and the host had to wait on use. We did not get one of the sides we ordered and it was on the check when it was presented. Adding insult to injury was being charged $6 dollars for each iced tea my wife ordered. Seemed a bit outrageous even for NY.

On our way out the door the manager/host seemed more interested in his Facebook feed that saying good bye or asking how things were.

As I said Minetta Tavern has always been excellent and we send a lot of our friends there so I hope this was just a bad Saturday lunch experience.

Unfortunatelly we will not go back, the food was nothing special, burger I’ve had better in other places (and they brought it out undercooked, then, after cooking some more, I realized they had put back my french fries in the fryer , which made them too oily, plus no flavor. Fish and chicken were very bla as well, sorry.

One of America's great burgers. If you feel like splurging, the rib eye for two with bone marrow is not to be missed. Classic NYC atmosphere, professional service.

Great food and friendly initial service at a “fast food”restaurant. “Fast” food because they rush their guests out the door once the clock strikes 1 hour. Maitre’d and busboys literally pulled napkins and unfinished drinks out of our hands.
This happened in spite of our full entree and dessert orders, and two bottles of fine wine, each costing in the 3 digits. Our reservation was made 1 month in advance.
If their business model is to turn over a table in less than 75 minutes, they have succeeded. If their model is to please out of town visitors and generate repeat customers, they failed miserably.

We went for brunch. We were a little late, they didn't want to seat us until both of us were present. Had a drink at the bar that was well made. I had the fava beans with morell mushrooms and my partner had the dry aged burger. Both were quite good.
The room is NY cramped, not a lot of space between tables but that is NYC. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Well if you go here, you have to have the steak. I had the filet mignon and it was one of the best you can have. It completely melted in my mouth. My girlfriend had the burger which was awesome too. Their menu is small but well crafted. Definitely worth the money if you are looking for exceptional steak.
